Leslie WEST will always be part of my life with music . I been playing guitar for over 54 years ,his sound , his riffs , his note holding power ,his whole persona and originality will be in my guitar soul every time I play guitar. When I do my own thing L. West is always in my heart and fingers . He will always be missed by many in this world .
I still remember the first time i heard "Street of Dreams" and it still takes me to a special place. Such wonderful lyrics and a well crafted song. 💙 No one sounds like Leslie West. He gets right to the punchline on the guitar, make ya sweat.
He's only the most talented guitarist in history. And he did not read a lick of music. Not a speck. Did not need to. Back in '87 Leslie and I were listening to the stereo I had in my truck at the time (before a Mountain concert in Tempe) and he told me that he had 'ears like a tuning fork'. Evidently THAT'S at least partly how he does it. I for one was not going to argue with him. Les also told me he started at a very early age, when he was about 12 years old (SMOKING DOPE)! I have some stories. Like the time I brought Leslie home to our apartment in East Islip in '77 to hide him from his manager who wanted to know how all Leslie's guitars somehow got hocked. You should have seen the look on the neighbor's faces seeing him stroll (waddle) into our apartment. Priceless...
The first song I learned to play with the guitar was Mississippi Queen. And for over 50 Years I've been learning to play like the Great West. Miss ya man.
This guy was one of the best back in the day .. When Jimi Hendrix asks his musician peers if his tone is as good as Leslie’s ,, you know you’re FU$&KEN good !
I went to see John Mayall in Dallas, TX, maybe 1970? I didn't know the opening act, Mountain. I so vividly remember standing on my seat, along with the rest of the audience, mesmerized by West's tone and unbelievable sustain, we wouldn't let them off stage! Mayall was doing the Turning Point tour, and seemed miffed, as he only played about 30 minutes. We didn't care (and I love Mayall)! Got to hear West, and Mountain, fantastic band, again a couple of years later at a small street fair in Denver. Lucky me!!
That tone...I was fortunate enough to see him on stage in Paris back in 2008...I hadn't heard his music in years and I thought he'd play 1 hour and it would be mostly blues which I was excited about anyway... Wrong : He played over 2 hours and it was LOUD, RAW and IN-YOUR-FACE ( well mine anyway ) he still had the other leg back then but he was clearly in pain and in spite of that he DELIVERED 🤘🤘🤘What a show...
40:10 "What do you know? Have some more wine." Then that laugh. 🤣 Leslie had a great sense of humor too. His calls and visits to the Howard Stern show were always incredibly funny and joyful.
Its nice to see Joe Lynn Turner playing guitar....I used to catch him playing the local bar scene in northern NJ he's not only a great singer but could keep up with anybody on guitar, Check out the live 1978 concert when he played with "Fandango":
Street of Dreams,The piano and Vocal really carries this one . Joe T's Voice sounds really good . I wonder is he had this one Before working with Blackmore?
I was so lucky to see Joe Lynn Turner in the old days long before Rainbow. His band was Fandango, an amazing band that used to be called Esra. Seen them play all over Jersey in the mid 70's. RE. Plum in Bogota NJ, Felican College and he even came to see my band at a NJ dive called Rock Bottoms.
I mixed Joe's music before Rainbow. Search Fandango. I also was privileged to see Joe's band, Ezra, when I was in high school. That voice you hear...was there from the beginning. And his guitar playing was there from the beginning. A true talent. And a very generous friend.
Wow" A Part of Me a Part of You" ... is that the name of this song at 40:40 ? I have the best of Mountain, and I remember this as a Felix song with Keys, I never heard Leslie play this a side from Mountain . This is amazing to hear Leslie's Interpretations . "Theme" and "Sleigh Ride" On "Leslie West; Live" that is so great , I love that CD! Lesli uses a Modern amp set up on "Live" he is the only player who crossed from the 70s to a more modern sound and really lost nothing, became even more soulful! G.O.A.T. indeed!
The first guy I am not sure who he was but he sure wasn't Leslie West. The second guy was definitely Leslie West...both looks and sound! You shouldn't mislead viewers like that in the title.
@@terrysmith1957 O.K I am just being honest. Perhaps it has something to do with the life situation and the recording. I am a bass player myself, conservatory graduate. (and yeah, also played for large audiences) Leslie totally rocks in this video, but I can't listen to it. Sorry
Both pick up musicians.. backing only.. no Felix or Corky..feel, I want to back the comment up, these two musician , especially the bass has to known by Leslies, the drummer is solid, Union Musician..

Hendrix's was not anywhere NEAR what Leslie's tone was. Nobody sounds like Leslie. Nobody. West was the best,
I saw Leslie West, Kim Simmons , Johnny and Edgar Winter ,Rick Derringer, songs in my head the next day were all from Leslie
God Rest Leslies's soul..I have tears in my eye's, an imaginary western.
Leslie's guitar voicing is completely his own. His vision and approach...unique!
#MississippiQueen
Mr. West King of touch & tone
Nobody sounds like Leslie. Nobody. They do not even try....
All the angels can take guitar lessons now! God bless you Leslie.
👍. I hope he gives lessons to the angels now. Afterwards each angel would play great guitar.

Amazing piece of music and film!!! Such talented artists......love J.L.T and maybe Leslie R.I.P.
thank you for sharing
Leslie rocks!!.. Totally did not expect Joe Lynn Turner to open it with an absolutely killer acoustic version of Street of Dreams...wow
can listen to him play, sing all fricken day.... miss him.
Leslie a true rock legend, saw him with Mountain many years ago.
I used to fly Leslie around on my Dad's TWA Term Pass. I have some stories...
Leslie - THE One and ONLY!
Hendrix, Winter, Ronson, Fripp, Page and West (my faves)

Leslie is in rare form on this show, outstanding.
Leslie had also a great voice for rock!
Sounded great up until his passing. Not many performers can equal that.
rest in peace brother

Wow, I only now just realized Gov't. Mule is like the spiritual successor to Mountain. Especially the first four or five albums.
When a god sang and played
Leslie and the piano player stole the show!
How great is Joe Lynn Turner and the organplayer
Great tribute to Curtis Mayfield whose fate was quite similar.
Street of Dreams,The piano and Vocal really carries this one .

Corky and Richie sorely missed here...... but Leslie still rips it up!
Felix and Jack. Do not forget Felix and Jack. They play bass. BOTH of them...
This sounds fucking amazing
These guys are highly respected professionals for sure. Their audio engineers are also.
Joe Lynn is truly an icon .. look at 1h 28'56'' till 1h 33'33''

The name of the song is “For Yasgur’s Farm”
Great voice ❤

Did Leslies basist get firered after this gig? He should've.

@@gl3605 Just perfect!
Blackbird by The Beatles
Leslie’s bass player stunk.
Definitely no Felix.
He played on three of Leslie’s albums. I will take leslie’s option over yours any day.
After Bruce and Pappalardi they all stink...
Take that, Bieber!
Next to Hendrix.
god bless LWs soul!!
btw...nice body double for Leslie West uploader...a lil too young to be the real LW at this concert...imo
#BorschtBeltBoojieBoy
Leslie is in the wheel chair bro...
The bass player has a left handed tremelo.
Bass player is waaayyy too loud.

Randy Coven is hardly a pickup bandmember, putting it mildly. But it may have been one of his lesser gigs.
