  • (22) Marred somewhat by a strong NE wind i paddled from Wacker quay up on the River Lynher to the River Tiddy at St.Germans and it's quay.Passing through the St.Germans viaduct and skirting Port Eliot estate and the 18th century boathouse that sits within it's grounds on the banks of the Tiddy. The last view is of Erth hill which is an Iron age fortification.Old characterful live-aboard at Dandy hole = Shandoo,Chatham.

One of my sons walked by the computer when I was watching this and he immediately commented “This is a beautiful video!”. I totally agree with him. Had to google St Germans. /Johan

Very nice Andy.excellent video. Those railway Archie's and parts of the river looks like the river weaver near me. Head winds don't we love em 😂.

Thought you'd recognise that as a kayaker! The north easterly was quite fierce in places, hence the screen splashes! Many thanks for watching and commenting.

Must venture up the Lynher some day (but I do prefer the open coasts). Never realised how busy it must be with all those boats there. Thanks for the great vid.

Thanks Geoff. The Lynher is my favourite river around here to paddle. On a good day you can get up just past the Notter bridge inn, lot's to see on the way too.

P.S, another great vid btw , looks fab there. Love that the arched rail bridge is still in use, one of them very similar right near us in Whitefield but has been unused since before I was born, shame really, but great fun to play on and chuck stuff off as a kid lol.

Still in use as it's on one of the main railway lines in Cornwall. You might have missed it but there's a train going across it in the vid.Cheers for watching mate, glad your back online again.

Yep I did notice the train going over, that's why I mentioned it lol
I wouldn't mind taking that train journey. Am sure I saw something on tv with Chris Tarrent in about train journeys that went over that bridge.

So you did! must concentrate more! Wouldn't mind doing that journey myself as i never have. An inflatable kayak would be ideal for you and Laura as i'd imagine it wouldn't take up too much room in the van.Welcome back to cyberworld...

Whacker Quay, not been there in years and years, and I don't think it's changed either! Been too windy for my boats, single paddles can be a nightmare.
    Great video though :)

The good folk of Antony try to keep it tidy which is no mean feat as it's used by some as a dumping ground, and for some other activities too!.But no real change there except a new trail that takes you along the banks of the Lynher to Antony village. These perpetual strong winds have not been good for getting out on the water of late that's for sure.

Hey Andy, What are your views on inflatable kayaks ? there was a couple in the go outdoors catalog we got in the post this month, a 3 seater for £120 that looks a bit crappy but there was a 2 seater for £350 that looks quite good. I wouldn't buy one new as too expensive for us but would look for a used one on ebay or gumtree if they are any good. We haven't done kayaking before but deffo want to. Also is there anything we need to learn or is it something that anyone can do with the right safety gear ? Thanks, Jay

I've heard good reports about them Jay and their stability and durability.Have a look at Wildcampervan man's channel as he's just bought one, here's the link ruclips.net/video/F--mKsaBROQ/видео.html He also has an update after this vid too. It's mostly common sense really Jay,lifejacket etc,and always let someone know where you are going for a paddle and what time ish you'll be back. There are many kayak tutorials on here as well but i'd say it's a very natural feeling thing to do and you invariably learn as you go,i've been kayaking for years now and am still learning with different paddling conditions.

Cool, just watched his vids, great he doing it as a non swimmer, takes some balls lol. I am a good swimmer but Laura cant swim.... I have done all my life saver stuff though and am confident in water so am sure I can look after her, we would both have vests on anyway and prob helmets too, just to be safe hahaha going to start looking for used ones so watch this space :-)

Hi Andy, how are you old friend? I trust you're well. I really enjoyed this video - the viaduct was impressive and no doubt mesmerized you as you passed beneath it. Thanks for the music to. Very mellow. So, are you still paddling? I hope so because nature still is the best medicine. Well, just popping into see hoe you are and to say hi. All the best. Mark
