I was an ok wrestler, won a few matches at state. Recently found old tapes. On the feet was a strength, but i now see how awful my set ups were. So painful to watch 18 yrs later
I won State without EVER really shooting. It never made sense to me why you'd wanna purposely go UNDER someone. That's exactly where I want you. Imma sprawl...and essentially do a Switch, before he even gets ahold of me. My set up was to lock up and faint ankle picks. That way they'd shoot, or by using their ankle pick defense....duck under suplex...all day. I'd like to coach. Keep working everyone.
Roman Bravo Young and Carter S are the best wrestlers I’ve learned from because they’re so strong and agile. Mobile and quick and intelligent with there movements and attacks
Only qualified for California state in high school but this is so true. I did this many times where guys would assume you’re gonna tie up then right when they think you are, you go in for a shot. Didn’t work all the time but sure was highly effective.
I wish wrestling was a thing in Australian schools when I was younger, I'd have done it in an instant. But kids are coddled and taught in school that any sort of physical conflict is inherently a bad thing and must never happen.
I got so close to winning a state title. I was in the semis with thus kid I've wrestled before. Last time I wrestled him he won 10-7 with three backpoints in the final seconds. The kid was also at the time a 2-3 time state champ, idk. We went into overtime and then he took me down so I couldn't make the finals. I still took 3rd and the kid who beat me in ot pinned the kid in the finals.
if anyone reads this, just join wrestling while in high school man if you are on the fence about it. wish I could go back and do it because I ended up not
This is so true, my coach told me this after I tied up with 10 seconds left instead of setting up a shot causing me to lose 5-3 in one of our duals
That’s how I won my state title back in 03
Lol "go win a state title" 🤣

I gotta go show my elementary school wrestler this.
I just lost my state placement to a lack of neutral offense yesterday, so I’ll think about this during the off-season

My go to to was downward neck pressure, then shoot when they lift

I used to push and pull and at an awkward moment just shoot. It worked many times.

Wrestling is badass, still regret not trying it when I was in school
I'll never forget winning state in Illinois for 125lbs. So much work was put in. I literally would cry sometimes but it was worth it! 💙💙

Flashback in the mid January of 2023
Nice how they pause on the 33 second mark on the clock. They are all a part of it.
I don't even wrestle yet & I still feel like I learned something, thanks.
