I was not no. i had to show them to camera and used another mic rather than swinging an active mic around. I have a newer Wireless Me sort that shows the audio quality in a busy convention

There are many different apps so what do you mean with what app is good? Do you want an app to record video with or just your voice?
If you don't know how to set your gain then I would suggest using auto gain
