Another good thing about the pot is that, having less mass, it should require less fuel to heat up. Usually titanium effectively adds weight because of the extra fuel you need to bring to heat it up.
I have the Soto thermoset combo cook kit, I think Soto could really improve that kit by using the lighter pot you just previewed. I like the Cozi, the lifter and the lid from the Soto kit. But I did use my old Toaks 750 pot to save almost an ounce with the handles removed. Including a super light pot in the combo set would make it even more flexible than it already is, and I could imagine Soto taking market share from Toaks
Kupilka, a Finnish company, has made long forks (with a spoon on the other side of the utensil) for years. 225 mm long, weighs 16 grams. It's made of wooden fibre composite, so there's no compromise between useability and eco-friendliness.
I got the chance to lay on the new Tensor Extreme and it is just as comfortable as the regular Tensor insulated, and pretty much just as quiet. All three new Tensor pads feature a higher denier bottom fabric, so they should be more durable than the outgoing generation.
Great info...I think I am most excited by the sleeping pad. As you get older, the aches and pains push you towards a thicker pad. This usually means heavier. Not now.

That sleeping pad looks great. I just got back from a trip where I slept on a Klymit Static V and while I was warm enough, I really need a full width pad after a long day.
At the end of each season I reevaluate my gear and upgrade items that are broke, failed to perform, or there is something new that not only shaves some weight but gives some added value. When buying items I thoroughly evaluate the data, compare, read comments, & ask questions before buying. I never replace items with something new if that item is still performing to my standards. I’m not a gram counter, so that doesn’t motivate me. I love coming across other backpackers with old gear that still performs. Hard to spend $$$ on the high prices of this new gear for only minimal weight savings especially when the old gear works just fine! I’ll be keeping my cookset, titanium spoon, and NeoAir XLite. I wouldn’t want that chair if they gave it to me for free! Love your videos…
also some of the ultra light weight stuff is so fragile that, to me at least its hard to justify spending 10-100% more for something that is likely to rip/break so much sooner. Just doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy feeling of spending that premium. But im not someone obsessed about going long distances, so maybe that would change if I were.
Pretty cool. I like the cutlery set. Id buy that for sure. I had to laugh at the end. The chair had a back!! You leaned back and get told DONT LEAN BACK! Then why does it have a back on it…. 🤣😂🤣
I bought an ExPed last year at the same rating. Quality devise but probably heavier and bigger pack size. I bet I’m going to wish the Nemo was ready for me last year
It's a shame I just finished buying 4 of the Nemo Tensor pads for my friends to encourage them towards ultralight backpacking and away from car camping. Regardless, I'll be buying one of the newer pads when they come out later this year. I'm absolutely stoked to see Nemo coming out with an R8.0 pad!! For years I've been wondering why manufacturers didn't add multiple layers of mylar to increase the R value. I'm glad to see someone actually do it.
Excited about the New NEMO pad. I use a Klymit Static V, but as I get older, it seems to get thinner. I also have to throw a wool blanket on it in the winter. I will def. be looking for the NEMO release. I can also throw that bitch in my hammock and not use an under quilt.
I would buy the NEMO Tensor Extreme. I like my NEMO Tensor for our super short Summer in Alaska, but I love My Exped DownMat with an R value of 7.9, however it is very bulky. Everything I carry in Winter is very heavy and bulky. Looking forward to trying the "new" Readywise meals. Lord knows Readywise makes the least tastey meals ever.
My new (favorite) piece of gear: Tensa Trekking Treez pole. Finally I have peace of mind that I will never have to go to ground in my hammock. It works well, high quality construction and easy to use. Being able to hang off of one tree is invaluable (and as it is still new to me, frankly it seems like magic).
I'm liking the utensil set and the nemo pad. Are you working on a longer video about the show? It would be nice to see more than just your top picks , not complaining just would like a little more.
Definitely the Nemo tensor. I've been hiking with the same thermorest pad since 2016 over 3000 miles. It sprang a leak once and I sealed it with super glue, no problems since.
The Nemo Tensor has been a favorite in the backpacking community for a while now and having the same comfort with a 8.5 r-value in the Extreme version is a gamechanger. No more more extra folding pad under the air mattres to further insulate the sleep system and still lightweight. Can't wait to see the review.
I love my Tensors and personally, I thought the insulated Tensor pretty much already killed the Xtherm. Damn near as warm. I can't really tell the difference, except when I sleep through the night because my sleeping pad isn't waking my up every time I even think of moving a little (crinkle crinkle). But, holy cow. 8.5 is super impressive. Major increase of the X-therm (6.9 if I recall). Now the only question is do I need that much insulation to complete my Tensor collection....
Have owned two Nemo Pads for the past 4 years (uninsulated and Alpine) and both have developed leaks. Used to be more interested in them, not sure I'd ever get one again as they really have to be babied for long term use. Lighter weight comes at a price in more ways than one!
Those titanium trekking poles look great, so I looked them up. They are called Komperdell FX Lite Ti, but are actually made from aluminium, not titanium (accordning to Komperdell's own spec sheet). Leki (and others) have actual Ti poles, but they don't look as nice as these.
I don't mind the video length. When it's a short update, it's easier to digest. And besides, at the trade show you were only able to get a small amount of info from vendors. It's not like you had 2 weeks of testing and could do an in depth video on new gear. Thanks for the vid 🎉
What is the widest sleep pad on the market, designed for backpacking? A 20" barely spans my shoulder blades and as a side sleeper my knees or behind are always hanging off the edge on a 25". Would love to see a 30" under 2 lbs.
Ooh, I gotta have one of those Nemo pads! That looks fantastic, and way more comfortable than my XTherm. I won't lie, I'm kinda geeked about the utensils set too.. LOL
I’m leaving for the superior trail October 12th. I hope I can get that new Nemo pad by then! That would make the 50 mile four day trip that much better!!!
I love my old jetboil telescoping utensils. I might have to finally splurge on some new poles. Too bad nemo doesn’t upgrade the valve like BA. Looks like you put my Santa list together
The knife, spoon, fork. Potentially cool with silicone around the spoon for scraping. And they telescope. If they lock tight potential found my flatware.
