    I don't like most contemporary music but this piece was actually good. The 2-note motif becomes quite menacing over time and the bass drop on bar 72 is quite satisfying.

      Musical theory handles this material quite well. Saariaho has a much deeper engagement with it than you do. Musical theory also has by now a rich tradition of self-reflexivity and self-criticism in distinguishing between descriptive and normative theory. You should perhaps read some of it.
