TISM - Whatareya? (live on Recovery in 1998)

- TISM did plenty of memorable TV appearances over the years but one of their best was this live performance of ‘Whatareya?’, a single from the 1998 album www.tism.wanker.com, on ABC TV’s Recovery program. They called in some real life aerobics instructors, pulled in some audience members, and showed us that anarchy-filled exercise was a lot more fun than a traditional workout.

Quite possibly the greatest live music performance ever captured on film
I think it was very significant and not recognized
Agreed
Without a single doubt
Not quite. It is the best from Australia’s premier band. Bugger ac dc.
The band that literally forces you to have fun.
Recovery was the best live music show...I miss those days
Beat box(?), early '80s satdi morns on ABC, was a goodun.
@@rodrocket8216 Duuude! BeatBox by Andrew Fucking Denton for 3 hours every Saturday morning. That show was groundbreaking and legendary.
Involuntary crowd participation is truly a beautiful thing.
Aw geez!!!!
yeah this is probably my favourite hostage situaition ever.
All Australians need TISM- 'BEST OFF' in their Music Library!
🎶 ❤️ 🇦🇺
Fair dinkum, we must have lost an entire generation to seed spilled watching pre-dawn episodes of Aerobics Oz Style in the early to mid-90's.
Never understood it myself, but that's what my friends tell me.
Internet porn wasn't a thing back then, so...
🤣
We didn't know it at the time but Recovery was an awesome show, But Countdown, Rage and BeatBox still hold the top 3. And Rage NEVER dies
Sound Unlimited with Donny Sutherland
Rage is sooo very hard to watch.
@@MsLouisez yep. "Back in the day", though, Rage was untouchable. No internet, so you'd sit up all fucking night saying you'll go to bed after this song. We saw so many videos and bands we would never have seen before.
Bahaha, love TISM and the nineties for that matter, what a wicked band, timeless music 🎶
"Wankers once used mobile phones, now that's sort of changing"
Wise words regarding future events
i dont get it
@@maxwell_edison While it was once only wankers, now EVERYONE has a mobile phone.
@@because_the_internet yeh...cos now ...everyone IS a wanka
@@because_the_internet "Wankers" in the context of the song are upper-class people.
Aint social change amazin?
I love that I've discovered TISM again. So good. 😃
Oh fuck me, I'm in tears of laughter - why haven't I seen this one before?!! Definitely a PC version and only TISM could make that fucking hilarious.
Love the obvious possible security/floor manager/studio exec (hard to tell with him) that clearly needs to off the floor and escapes at 2.29 with one TISM member quickly rounding him back up like a sheepdog.
Babies instead of beer yet is still pure TISM.
Seminal moment in Australian music
Actually a great work out song.
Special mention to the tall security bloke who got reeled back in, then locked it in on the line-dancing floor.
Can't wait for the new tour!!!
Just bought my ticket :D
timeless track... still seeing it today.... plenty of them around.
Fun Fact: The guy in the monkey suit is Leigh Whannel. who wrote Saw
surely not thats crazy
@@neomorpheus3703 don't know for sure that's true but makes perfect sense as Leigh had a regular spot on the show doing movie reviews before his script for Saw catapulted him and his co-writer to success.
Nup. It’s Angus Sampson.
Wow. I look at this song whenever I come across a wanker....that is often but it is good to run play in my head
@@neomorpheus3703 Oh yeah, Leigh was on the show a lot doing movie reviews etc
I remember watching this live, got me on the TISM train 👌
The coolest thing I have ever seen ❤️
they were even better live.
This song basically describes everyone on social media.
- Oz 80s music. I first heard TISM in the Monash Uni music library in 87
I live in Melbourne and this has never been more relevant hahaha. Also TISM is a great podcast with ya boi Bearing.
Jack I can’t help feeling that Bearing is part of this band. The ages don’t line up but everything is right there 🐻
Looking at the audience and remembering how baggy and daggy 90s fashion was.
They were some proper mischievous lads
Damian Cowell's Disco Machine recently did a Kylie/TISM mash up at their Regurgitator support show in December 2018. I went to see them.
Back when the world knew how to have some fun.
The aerobics instructor here got off incredibly lightly compared to the one in the film clip. 😄
My favourite song to sing when going outside amongst the human race.
Fantastic what a great band & great show in its day
Ah... The 90s.
Bliss. 😊 ❤
Man I wish I coulda seen them live...
So fucking good! Thank you TISM
TISM on RAGE Tonight!
Saturday 19th November 2022
+1 Wanker, going to see them live tomorrow :P
To this very day know one actually knows the real identity of the aerobics instructors.
Obviously recovery was an awesome show but you never hear people speaking about the 10:30 slot which in my book was just as good
I'm gunna tell the kids this was Jeff Harvey Midday Show Band.
Social change is amazing
I’m watching Rage and this song come on
Best wank track ever.
Is it Ron or Humphrey singing, and where’s the other one?
That's Humph. Ron, Jon and Les are the three guys dancing and pulling people from the crowd.
Ron only does spoken word. He's also the super tall one grabbing security/floor manager
Watching on Raaaaaagggee now!
We need TISM in 2021
They'd be blasted to high heaven and cancelled within HOURS of announcing they were starting up again 😠
They are back after 19 years. Good Things Festival. Couldn't get tickets quick enough.
Funniest live show I've ever seen
This would make for a good flash mob haha
Almost on par with PiL’s 1980 American Bandstand appearance. Dick Clark said it was the best ever.
2:52 that kid is gonna have a story to tell
"when i was two a scary man in a balaclava grabbed me and started dancing" lol
The kid would be about 24 now.....
Getta dog up ya
Make up ya bloody mind 😁
Ah, i miss Tism. Also miss Moksha
They have 2 new songs now
very disappointed they would be censored even if it was a kids show.
There was a "censor" button but it was not connected to anything.
This one is for recessionBerg and the happyClappa hawianHam.
Imagine rolling on molly in the back of an Uber and this starts playing what are you doing🫣
What the hell is the host?
1st saw them down the cbh 'supporting' regurgitation. ...
Damn good fun!
the mnonkey!!!! HES THAT GUY!!!
Perfect song for Liz Truss now that's she's PM
Biggest glitch in my matrix ever! I was rockin' the town back in these exact days, out 6 nights a week (because NOTHING was allowed to open on Sunday nights) & I never, ever heard of this .... I use the term very loosely .... "Group of Musos".
I've watched this heaps of times but who is the band off to the side waiting?
Hazy recollection of recovery, could even be imagining this but I think for a while they had a special guest house band each week playing intro/outro tunes between goings ons?
Old super Mercado
The ninteys where a glorious time on planet earth. Fond memories of baked sunday mornings watching killer bands and dylan being a hilarious idiot on Recovery. They dont make entertainment like this no more.
If this happened today 90% of the audience would have those zombifying fucking smartphones recording it instead of watching end enjoying it like you should.
Wankers
I love getting angry about potential situations too
Yobbo
I'm watching this on a smartphone but I totally agree with you
Who was the host of introducing Tism?
Dylan Lewis. The guy was really funny. see if you track down the interview with a young Britney Spears where he really took the piss out of her
I met him a few times, a really nice guy, I used to work for John Bannon the premier of Sth Australia who was Dylan’s step dad.
@@aristideau5072 He does weekend breakfast on Double J too, if you feel like some randomness. He's not gotten any less eccentric with age.
'Live' LOL! Live mime!
I could do that.. maybe
I must be a wanker because I am actually writing a shite comment about TISM, who genuinely never gave a rats ass what anyone said or thought about them... So who were they really?????
They were independently some of the most creative and unique musicians of their time I believe
This is Donad Trump's song.
Yep - this right here is why Trump wouldn't last five minutes in Oz politics.
3 wankers do not like this song :)
