    Individual player prop bets need to be banned. There's no way Jontay is the first obscure athlete in any sport to bet his own unders. He's just the first to get caught

It's only a severe issue when the books get screwed out of money and there algorithms spot some irregularities in heavy betting on a specific prop.. but there is no way in hell that there aren't other players in the NBA doing the same kinda scheming with just more discreet intermediaries

    This is random but I had a huge betting problem about 25 years ago and had four tvs and would watch every nba game every night. And I am going to say that I am 100% positive that Baron Davis used to fix over/unders when he played for the Hornets.

    "Better this, than a superstar"......but, of course, it's always going to be the "obscure" players. One of the main problems is the virtually unlimited types of bets you can make, the virtually unlimited combination of bets....players only have to make a few of these combinations to make certain people serious money.

    Why not offer Jontay a chance to go to rehab, counseling and try to get clear of this obvious addiction? If he was addicted to drugs and alcohol (another drug) he would be offered this chance to get clean.
    Why not work with him and maybe giving him the lifetime ban but with the chance to come back if he can get and stay clean for a certain period. Would that not be a good example considering their ad revenue for gambling?

      It's because he was giving information and deliberately taking actions to affect the bets. If he was just caught gambling it would have been an indefinite suspension but when a player takes actions that deliberately affects the potential outcome of a game that is a line you cannot cross or face the consequences.

      We know because the IRS took and tracked Ohtani’s electronic devices as well
      Never once contacting the 3 bookies from his own devices
      Not even going on bookie websites for a look see on his own devices
      Not even to check odds or even see what games are up on his own devices
      9600 pages of text messages on his phone with Mizuhara over a 4 year period
      Never once was talk about any of the 19000 bets he supposedly made through Mizuhara over a 26 month period
      From what I am reading they have text messages and IP address on Porter gambling
      But I’d like to see the actual evidence/proof that Porter was gambling
      Like a criminal complaint
      like we have with the 37 page criminal complaint and investigation by the IRS with Ohtani’s interpreter Mizuhara

    This man was made an example of. I am not saying he didnt deserve it. I am saying this is far from being the only instance. Gambling is a BILLION dollar industry. The fact that there are individual player prop bets is a breeding ground for abuse and insider gambling influence from players. Though I understand the NBA cant make betting sites not have player props. The fact that player props exist is a temptation that I am SURE other NBA players have succumbed to. Ban this guy for life. Fine. But be realistic. This is a rampant issue and they need to acknowledge it as such.
