10/2023......I still play my SimCity4,....I'm 70 years old and began playing when I was 50. In the beginning, I was able to access "cheat codes",....but once I upgraded my Mac computer, the cheat codes stopped working. The cheat codes allowed me to have unlimited money, that I could add to the (bank). Now I just play the game, and let my skills, to build a successful town,...at a slower pace, and with more control. I have never played this on a PC, and wondered how it might be different.
I doubt you'll ever see this comment as this video is pretty old but omg I looked Sim City 4 play videos out of curiosity, clicked this and your voice was just pure caramel toffee sauce to my ears. Will continue watching hoping the gameplay itself is enjoyable too. 0:16
Game is more enjoyable with mods, especially with NAM and some of the game fixes. If you don't want a lot of mods just grab the Industrial Revolution Mod and SPAM. those two alone make the gameplay better.
@@darkstorminc mods are never enjoyable. feel free to corrupt youre own game and brake it. mods destabilize any and all games. thats the problem with youre generation always thinking mods are the answer. it is not.
@@Nitroglowr it can be, but even the full NAM will give you a choice on what to install. Most of the buildings and parks are fine to install as vanilla SC4 gets repetitive after a few plays. For powerplants and the like some are near cheats, others are more balanced. The various seaport packs are bug fix and QOL while others are more cosmetic so you can build a true container terminal or port. Some of the best sea terminal lots were done by a few Japanese lot makers.
@@darkstorminc some cosmetic stuff can be good, or mods that fix issues the release version have, those are also great. But mods that make the game easy or make game breaking things are bad
Man oh man these old-style let's plays with no edits hit DIFFERENT in 2024. I'm tired of the overly edited post-commentated playthroughs. This unedited live-commentated video style is relaxing.
This makes me want to play SC4 again. I always enjoyed that game, so relaxing. Tried Skylines but it was way to involved and I just couldn't get into it.
Not me actually sitting down and watching your YT stuff for once! I do have this, I should probably spent more than two minutes playing it. Maybe I can get some pointers and stuff by watching :)
10/2023........I loved building factory towns, with rail access to each area. I loved making it resemble the cities I grew up in, with RR tracks, snaking behind buildings, to make it look more realistic. I would create huge farms, then later carve them up for residential use. I loved the "god" mode,....because liked when I created hidden deep lakes, and whales would live in them. The sound effects of the whales, and gulls, was always a treat. Some lakes I install beaches, and I love the animated action of the beach-goers, and more gulls. Every city I build, I love it to have creeks, lakes, sometimes some hills. I like having bridges to other areas, if isolated by water. Overall its a fun game, I am not into games with violence, even though all the younger folks, seem to love those.
Having played the absolute isht out of this game, I think the best way to design your blocks is to make (4x4)x8 commercial zones, with subway stations between each subsequent 4x4 zone. Avenues everywhere. Grass infill between the zones. Once you get the population toward 500,000 people the traffic becomes very difficult to manage.
Dgvoodo for the game stuttering. I followed a guide that included the 4gb patch and the settings for dgvoodo wrapper. It allowed me to use hardware rendering with no stuttering of the traffic that I could see. After that I tried a setting in nvidea control panel. Program for simcity 4 exe. and not global setting. For v sync I chose "adaptive half refresh rate" That made scrolling the smoothest out of all v sync options I tried. That will lock your fps pretty low likely at 30fps. But the game is capped at 29fps in turtle speed without scrolling around, and in rhino its capped at 19fps and cheetah is only 15fps so it didn't matter to me. Kind of annoying actually going from 150fps or 70fps(all over the place) when scrolling to suddenly drop to its hard cap of 29, 19 or 15 fps when not scrolling. That was the smoothest setup for me. Software rendering the game would glitch every 2 seconds or so, real annoying. The wrapper fixed and plays good in hardware rendering.
I have been wanting to play this again however I’ve been having a hard time finding the game. Could really use some help! Also What kind of computer do I need for the game to work… I purchased this game off of Amazon once and it didn’t work on my computer
Little bit laggy in the video but still a joy to see a clean unmodded sim city 4 as i like that type of gaming. Well that and mods kinda destabilize the game. So good to see older games and lets plays make a return. Keep up the amazing work.
Not all mods, some fix lingering issues or make the game play as it was originally designed to do before getting nerfed because it has to run on slow hardware even for the.time it was released.
@@darkstorminc evry single one dose they are not healthy for games. plain and simple. youre generation is just to blinde to see the buty of unmodded games.
@@tsunsu you are assuming too much. I've played SC4 since it was released. My generation of games goes back to the days of Warcraft and Command and Conquer for the computer and even earlier for console.
@@tsunsu Mods aren't all bad. Sure there are some that are basically cheats, but like I said some fix bugs the developers never got to. Others can be quality of life improvements such as a lot of the building for SC4 or something like the Industrial Revolution Mod. Neverwinter Nights is another game from this time period that had A LOT of mods created by fans. Any map created for an RTS game is a mod. Some mods do destroy the balance of a game, I do agree on that aspect, but overall you get to decide on how to mod your game. I prefer those mods that improve a games balance, fix bugs, or just improve the quality of the game. For Simcity 4 the Network Addon Mod is a must as well as Roadtop Mass Transit. For more modern games though... I find far too many mods add nothing to the game they are made for. Either they are designed as pure cheats or are never properly balanced.

A wholesome farm town! Good start with strong staples. Coal and corn will power an empire.
blissful relaxation.. thank you sir!
Just started this fantastic game myself. Again. After few years. Time is just flying away.
still the best city builder on the market IMO
I started playing SC4 again too... it's so addicting :)
love your energy. it takes me back

Yes!
Planet Zoo main theme :() And Sim City 4...it is just so nostalgic.

Do you use the SC4launcher to change the resolution?
I just modify the shortcut, no need for extra software to clutter my computer with.
So great to see this game being played in 2023!
Still the best modern city builder ever made for me! (I'm not into Cities Skylines)
All SimCity games have such cozy vibes, Cities Skylines may be more realistic but zero charms
