For all who happen to be confused, this is not a "ripoff" of Folsom Prison Blues, it is their version of a "cover" of it, which they have always been forthcoming about. Not kidding, they have always been open about it and in no way were trying to ripoff cash but rather honor him, and I kinda dig this kind of a tribute which took a little more effort then just rerecording the same song...
The only person who could get away with that and still have the song be better then the original was Mr. Cash himself...go figure:)

Considering Johnny Cash's "Folson Prison Blues" is in standard tuning and played with 5 chords, while "Sad Man's Tongue" is in Dropped D and played with 8 chords; I don't see how people can THINK this is a Johnny Cash ripoff....oh yeah, that's right!! You don't play/know shit about ACTUAL music. To be more precise, the only notes that are used in both songs are the E, the A, and the B (and their not even played in the same order/mode). So now, anyone who uses an E/A/B chord formation is copying Johnny Cash? Get real lol. Paulsens' use of the G chord in the opening refrain changes the entire music structure of the song (their is no G chord in Folson Prison Blues). Just because "On down to San Anton" sounds a LITTLE like "Out from a Sad Man's Tongue" doesn't make it a ripoff. It is a tribute song to (obviously) Michael Paulson's favorite performer of all-time. If you can't appreciate that, than I don't know what the fuck you're doing here in the first place. Learn to read/write music before you toss your judgement around because it is meaningless otherwise. It's like complaining about money as you sit and collect your welfare check...jabroni.

I'm just a bit late to hear this band (read, TODAY). But after doing a bit of exploring/listening, I really like this band. This is a good modern take on rockabilly, and, OK, they started with an obvious Elvis nod... but didn't plagiarize, at least in my opinion. After all, if you go there, then ANY band who uses the I-V-vi-IV riff is plagiarizing. How 'bout we just listen to the music and passion?

Actually, if you're doing vocals in a band, you'll notice the same patterns in cover l Volbeat songs. Up the ladder, down the ladder. And horrible singing technique, pronunciation out the window. From a pure objective musical standpoint, this is just crap ;) it's like rock techno for the masses. With power chords and bad vocals.

Have seen Volbeat live 6 times (I think) and FFDP once....well figure it out.... BUT I do love both bands - Volbeat just more :) I remember in Odense 2015...there were like 25 busses (2 storages) from copenhagen to concert area (about 2 ½ h trip...and back in the middle of the night). We (Finns) were in same bus with people from USA (so they came FAR AWAY!) Swedish had 2 busses.... :D 37 000+ ppl in Odense - not a band concert (best Volbeat - 2009 in Finland, Helsinki, Kaapeli, about 300 ppl there...).

This was my “introductory song” for this band!! My friend tried to fool man and tell me it was Johnny Cash. Took me about 40 seconds to figure it out. Yes that long. I knew Johnny cash and I knew his songs and I had never heard this one before but they imitate him so good in the beginning.

    • @Joshcheyka

He's doing a more Elvis inspired vocal while sounding thoroughly Michael Poulson and it took you 40 seconds to figure out it wasn't Johnny Cash?

At points it sounds like a version of a few lines from Johnny Cash's 'Folsom prison blues' mixed with Elvis' "Guitar man" from 68 Comeback special.
