Staking Dahlias and Trees 🌸🌳 You Will Love How We are Supporting Our Garden!

- Thanks for growing with us!
Today we are talking all about plant supports. First we need to create a way to support the dahlias that Christopher grew from seed. We have devised a method of using beautiful Jardin Stakes from @gardenerssupply and jute twine to make our own version of a hortinova netting. Putting the stakes together is a breeze and once we get them in the ground it is just a matter of stretching the twine from stake to stake. This will keep the dahlias supported but also look great.

We are also working on trees today. The Tickle Creek Birch from @iselinursery5169 needs a quick adjustment to its stake. After that we are going to take a look around at some of the plant supports we have had great success with. These supports and so much more can be found here:

Lastly we need to get our Princeton Sentry Ginko tree staked. The west wind has pushed It over and it just looks silly. Using an 8 ft stake we are supporting proper upright growth and the tree looks better immediately!

The stakes are so stylish, great idea.
I’m glad you like them!
Fishing line would look invisible on those beautiful garden stakes.
Good idea
Good morning, great supports, beautiful, great job.
Thank you! Cheers!
@@growformegardening Happy 4th🍻🌞
You gentlemen are genius! That looks so much better than the flower factory look most gardeners end up with, and you would never have in your garden. A very ingenious method of keeping flowers secure. May I make a small suggestion. Next time black twine might disappear a bit better than green.
I love watching you two work together! Your dahlia stakes are so pretty - that space will be gorgeous when the dahlias are in bloom. I also appreciate you pointing out your pests (rabbits & Japanese beetles) ... we all have them!
We like to keep it real!
I had black twine in my hand at the store and put it back...because it was twice the price. It wasn't even that expensive either. haha
Great themed tour guys! We “ fully support” you too! 😂🇨🇦🌸👏
Woohoo!
Pink mink is now on my list! Gorgeous!
I'm so happy with it
I have bought a lot of these supports, thanks to you!
Great to hear!
Your garden looks very pretty now!
Thanks!
Another great video. Love how you make the practical look so pretty in your garden.
Thanks so much 😊
It looks fantastic! Great job you two!!💚 and I agree about the color green used for garden ties and twines!
Yes! Thank you!
Another great video “Gardening Guys”!!😊
Thanks again!
A couple of funny guys. 😆
I really like those whimsical stakes. I don't have plants that need them, but just as a decorative element, I might have to get some.
I have the Jardineer half hoops to support peonies and perennials. (I now have 13 peonies! My favorite.)
Say, I haven't seen Japanese beetles in my garden this year (Minneapolis ).🤞🏼 Hoping they've moved to another address. Course, it could be because my DA 'Queen of Sweden' roses may have succumbed to our crazy climate. They never seem interested in my traditional shrub roses, 'Therese Bugnet'.
The beetles are arriving in our garden. We have a neighbor that put out the beetle bags so we are hoping most of them fly over there
@@growformegardening
Oh no! I've heard 🚫 to use those bags because they draw the Japanese beetles to your area. I think they can fly at least a mile.
Better to deal w/ them as grubs. Treat lawn.
@@Edu_Kate Oh we do...but the neighbors don't always!
The the Jardin items they have a classic style. The garden is so lush and beautiful!😎❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes they do
We’ve caught 3 rabbits in a live cage from our yard and released them down by a river away from homes. They eat way to many beautiful not to mention expensive plants.
That’s a good idea
Your garden is so pretty. Thanks for showing how the plant supports are assembled.😊
We love them!
You guys have inspired me to try and stake some things. Thanks for the information. I had no idea where to start!
You can do it!
I see what you’re trying to achieve, but perhaps the netting would disappear once the plant leaves grow in and everything gets camouflaged., and an easier project. 💚 your space, beautiful gardening🌸
If the area was square I definitely would have gone that way. It just an awkward curve.
Amazing beautiful yard.🌺🌱🌳
Thanks for visiting
Stunning!
Thanks!!
I agree with the green twine color. Maybe just do black bamboo stakes and black twine. I love the maintenance videos bc it’s reality and encouraging for what 90% of gardening really is.
After months of planting it is maintenance mode!
@@growformegardening
For me it's weeding mode. Almost overnight, I have a jungle. I don't care, Preen is my lifesaver.
We haven't used that, does it work well?
@@growformegardening
Preen? Heck yeah. Mulch alone isn't enough.
@@Edu_Kate our biggest problem is grass. Would that help?
Another great video - I enjoyed spending time in your garden!
I'm so glad!
What a great idea. I hope it's working
It’s working!
Thick fishing line works well and it's pretty much invisible!
Good tip!
Amazon has a rubberized product that is a green in nature . Jenny from Creekside Nursery lists it in the store
good to know
Gentlemen,
Two comments:1) the ugly color of the twine will be bleached out very quickly ( you can also take the unbelievable time to apply hydrogen peroxide to "bleach" it) & 2) you will be so chuffed with yourselves that you did this before the summer gets to" jungle phase" and you have to wade into your precious dahlias to the tune of cracking stems. Also, you may never get to this point but, _the ends of twine sometimes "disappear" clinging somewhere in the abyss of eager foliage. Pulling on said twine usually results in the guillotine you hoped to avoid... Good luck and thanks for the video. Excellent as usual!
👍
Well this is good news. Bleach away!
😂 I love you guys. Warm wishes from DR…well, wet wishes I should have said 😅
I hope you were able to avoid the worst of the storm
Your garden is fully supported! You guys are amazing and your garden.
haha yes!
This was interesting!! It was hard to hear Christopher though!!
Still working on some audio stuff, it is really complicated and I am learning!
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you! 😊
I see a Lyman Whitaker windspinner (or something similar) in your garden!! These are sculptural art pieces you can enjoy all year 😀
I'll take a look at them!
Black string is best if you can get it. It just disappears.
I had it in my hand at the store!
Great idea guys@! I actually use old shower curtain rods ( with the fancy diamond 💎 tops) and they are rust free🥰
That's a fun idea!
Great job with the supports! Love the pink clematis! I'm growing honey nut butternut and cucumbers on the arch on my 2x8 elevated bed. The bunnies (and groundhog) have been munching on my dahlias and I can't bring myself to stop them lol Your bunny looks like a baby, so I hope you let him be!
We haven't seen him since..hopefully he has run along in to the woods
Christopher chasing the bunny..."you better run!"🤣🤣🤣 Next year plant some bottle gourds on the trellis. They always look so whimsical as they dangle down off the trellis.
good idea!
Awesome video again guys 👌 thanks for sharing 💐
Thanks for watching!
Great Video!
Thanks!
...and you have an avid and loyal supporter in Maryland. Love you guys bunches-n-bunches!
❤🫶🤗🙌
👩🏼🌾💚 =^..^=
Why thank you!
I grew Floret original dahlias & zinnias from seed this year as well. the bunnies have destroyed the zinnias and working on the dahlias. I feel your pain!!! So frustrating.......
oh no!!!
I love y’all so much and I enjoy watching your videos also Eric your hat looks great with the color of the sky the garden is beautiful ❤️
Thanks so much
Always such a treat to see your beautiful faces! Thank you for often sharing your ideas, tips, tricks, purchases and glamourous garden! (swoon)
Oh thank you!
I absolutely love your teamwork! Thanks for the glimpse into your relationship. Your gardens are so beautiful 😍
Thank you so much!
“Team work makes the tree work.” 😂 Can you provide a link or tell us how to get the 8’ stake you used for that ginko? It looks sturdy but easy to remove. We have trees that a previous owner staked with anchored t posts. The not so pretty posts are now impossible to remove because the roots have grown over the anchor. I don’t want to repeat that mistake when I plant new ones!
That stake is right in the garden center at Home Depot. I think it's the biggest one they have
Thank you!
I think Dahlias are pretty, but the staking thing is so ugly to me. I love watching other gardeners do the work hehe. It's the twine for me. But those stakes are pretty. I would use those instead of the ones plants come in.
I'm hoping in a few weeks the first layers of twine are invisible!
Hi!! You can also grow tomatoes on the arches.
That would be fun
❤
🌸🌺🌼
It's sort of bronze looking
I like that, Bronze sounds good to me
I think your dahlias could use some fertilizer otherwise great staking video.
They were definitely still looking sad from the heatwave. I'm back to a routine with them so the leaves are greening right up.
What are the deer defender stakes called and do you have them in your amazon store. Thank you!!
The are called Wireless Deer Fence. Pop it in to Google and you’ll find them
lol...again 🤣
haha
