I really do not understand why so many people bad mouth the island and his citizens every time there is a disgrace in the island. It is a beautiful island and its citizens are full of love. I know everywhere around the world is a bad apple but the island do not deserve to be put down, specially by the people of the United States. What they are today is what they are and what happened 125 years ago or when the island became part of the United States is not by any means the fault of their people today.
Best Place for real relax vacation , better that Disney because the theme park was make by the man, Puerto Rico is a natural paradise nothing compare the awesome land view and the people hospitality, food and seafood taste out of this world it is very enjoyable … I go in Christmas time again... :)
Me and my wife, was in San Juan Puerto Rico in the summer of 2016 to catch a cruise ship to the southern Caribbean 7 days, and on our way back from our cruise we had a 6 hour tour of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, before our flight back home, it was totally beautiful' it's like the Paris of the Caribbean' we plan to return to Puerto Rico to see more of this exquisitely Beautiful developed island one day.
Next time come by plane. PR is not just old San Juan. That is all a tiny part of San Juan and after San Juan, we got 77 more towns to visit and enjoy. It takes about 6 month to know it town by town...and maybe more.
They forgot to mention that in PR is the best coffee in the world, great rum, amazing waterfalls and fantastic and healing hot springs!!! We've lived here for an year and will stay for another 2. I'm admire every day here, amazing sunsets and sunrises! It's a wonderful place to live!

For anyone planning on visiting here are some tips from a local Arrive on the second week of January and make sure to spend the third weekend of January in Old San Juan, we have the biggest celeration you'll see that day (Fiestas de la Calle San Sebatian) the city is closed for people to party. The weather is good for the beach all year, but it rains a lot in summer. Places to visit: El Morro Casa Bacardí El Yunque (rainforest) Old San Juan Condado La Parguera (night life) Beaches: Mar Chiquita Flamenco El Escambrón Crash Boat Baños de Coamo (not a beach but it is cool) Survival beach Good tours: Visit Culebra (where Flamenco beach is) Gilligans Island Isla Caja de muerto Bioluminicent bay (there are a few) Cueva ventana (look it up)

San Juan is beautiful but it’s on the Atlantic side, I live 60 Miles from the Atlantic Ocean in New Jersey, The pearl of the Island is on the southern side, which is on the Caribbean side, the water is crystal clear and the beaches are fantastic, and isolated. Ponce is the Major city on the Caribbean side and has a major airport, you mentioned the Banos in Coamo which is supposed to be the fountain of youth Ponce DeLeon was searching for. It’s not fancy but relaxing and soaking in the hot springs water is rejuvenating. The Corona commercial during Christmas shows a man on the isolated beach under a coconut tree with a Corona. That’s me!!!!

PR also has lot of cultural activities, concerts, festivals and a long fashion and theatre plays tradition. We are very updated in lots of thing. It is not "Bomba y plena"... Karis Masham, I just checked what I already knew, and certified that the equator, where the tropics start, sits just off the Cuban coast, below 24 degrees, whereas Puerto Rico is down around 18 degrees, or around 350 miles into the tropics. Oops!
It might be expensive if you decide to stay in San Juan or the Metropolitan area but if you explore the north side of the island you will see that it is more cheaper and as beautiful.
