The creator shipped them but left it up to interpretation, and left it vague what their relationship actually was. I am more dubious of part A than part B of that statement, personally, but Technically Shadow is her Great Uncle by Law and that is canon, so good move on his part to not explicitly ship regardless; but the source is likely not that nice and rainbows as yall interpret it, if the rumors are any more credible in truth than in their nebulous unconfirmed state (as far as I know.)
