- How To Change LG TV Region Code Using LG Service Remote Control
Does your LG TV not receive some apps that you want from the content store? If you have tried changing the LG services country and it didn’t work, then this tutorial is for you.
Just get your LG service remote control ready.
To check the Area Option on LG TVs press IN START. Enter the password 0413. In the Adjust Check you will see the Area option code here. On this TV it is 4818
To change the Area option on LG TVs press the ADJ (adjust) button. Enter the password 0413. Now scroll down to area option. You can see the area option over here again.
Before you change anything, take a photo of the area option settings on your screen. This will be important as you will see later.
Press OK to edit the function and a keyboard will appear at the bottom of the screen. If it does not then start typing the numerical code directly from your remote.
Before we go on, here are the reasons for changing the area option
1. To Get specific apps from the LG Content Store
2. Receive broadcast channels. Sometimes the Area Option can lock out the broadcast country setting.
3. Change the language, especially LG TVs from China. LG TVs from china are cheap but they are completely useless out of China. Only the HDMI ports can be utilized.
4. To receive CAM card broadcasts. I learnt this from one of my viewer’s in India. This was completely new information to me.
According to me there is absolutely no reason to change the Area option on LG Digital TVs. This is something only done for LG Smart TVs.
Guessing the Area Option code won’t work. If you change the code to anything else, it might destroy the motherboard. So that is not a good idea. You also don’t want to damage your expensive LG TV.
Now where do you get these LG TV Area codes? From a similar model TV that you have access to. Not some codes from the internet or forums but from a TV that you will check physically. That is the best way to get these codes.
The first important thing to check is the model number of your TV. The hard thing will be looking for a similar Model of TV in your area.
If you cannot find the exact same model of TV then look for one that was manufactured in the same year. You can get the model number and manufacture year of your TV on the sticker at the back of your TV.
In my tutorial you saw that the Continent Index, Language country and Hardware settings changed after pressing OK. If these values change to blank then you have done something wrong. Just check the codes that you took a photo of earlier and type it in again.
If you switch the TV OFF while you have entered the wrong codes, the motherboard will be destroyed. The TV will not be able to boot up for you to perform a factory reset or INSTOP.

Dominic, I managed to change country code and most things work, such as ITV player, channel 4 etc however BBC iPlayer works slightly, meaning I can launch the player and see the menu but when I choose a programme to watch, it does not play. I thought it may be due to the VPN but if I watch on another device, computer, Apple TV they work fine without any issues. All devices are connected to the same network so I’m at a bit of a loss. Any thoughts on this???

Hi Dominic. I have an LG 55LM6410-TB from 2012. I bought the service remote control but the area code will not change when I try to put the numbers in using the remote keypad. If I go to the Adjust Check screen, pressing the down arrow makes cursor go from 1. Country Group straight to 3. Tool Option missing 2. Area Option completely. Do you know why this is?

LG TV's do not have google assistant. Only Android TV and Google TV have Android assistant. You can buy a streaming device like the Nvidia shield or Xiaomi's MiBox to enjoy Android TV

An app exists but it requires a phone with an IR sensor. Plus the app is no longer free

The continent index only lists information related to the Area Option. Nothing can be changed from the continent index.

This video has the solution. But you'll need the LG service remote control. If you don't have one then you can use the Android app. Your smartphone must support IR for the app to work.
