Great to see this game getting good reviews. Between this and Tokyo Mirage Sessions, it's good to see a revival of good JRPGs. Great review dude!

nah it's a deep genre, you shouldn't limit yourself to one game just because it's a great game.
Fav oldschool rpg? Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 10, Tales of Vesperia and Legend of Dragoon.

I really love this game. Reminds me of the gold era of the JRPGs and gaming.
I had no idea I Am Setsuna would be out so soon. I've gotta scoop this one up, seems like quite a rare treat to have such a focused JRPG come out in this day and age.

For some reason, playing this game reminded me of the PSP game, Jeanne D'Arc. Haha, I can't pinpoint what it is that did so, though...
This game looks excellent, but the only MASSIVE downside that Ive heard people say is that it is extremely short (around only 20 hours).
Kleizar that is a killer for a jrpg :( they usually are well past 50 or even 100 hours! but at least ik I will beat it fully haha

i always hated rpgs before (because i never played them lol) but one time i tried persona 3 (i know it's not old schook and i am new to this genre :p) and oh my god what was i missing. now my favorite genre is rpg and i have many many games to play old and new :D
Firass, have you tried the xenoblade games? I STRONGLY recommend them.

+DreamcastGuy I cant believe people don't talk about it as much. it's great overall, cool gameplay, really good story that touches on a lot of subjects and a twist, and the characters are great. They should remaster the shit outta this game
If they remake Xenogears I would be okay with that as long as they do something about the g'damn chair sequence.

Nice review, thanks! $40 for digital only in the US. There has been a disturbing trend recently of new games on PS4 not getting a physical release. I Am Setsuna, Dariusburst CS, Firewatch, Layers of Fear, Unravel, The Witness, just to name a few. These are not tiny little insignificant Indie games, they are fairly large, popular, and critically-acclaimed games. We all know where this is headed.
It's going the way of the PC.

Really enjoy this game. Best square Enix game I have played in a long time. My only con is stat I hate battle voices have to be in Japanese. It's so jarring and takes me out of the beautiful and vivid art style and amazing music. I would really like to hear battle comments in English for a 40$ price tag. FF 6 is my favorite and during the opening I was so excited that it was similar to the long walk to narshe opening. I really hope this division continues to make games.
FFVII and VIII were my favorite JRPG's growing up.. tbh the FF series is really the one JRPG I played.
My backlog is so clogged up, I'm afraid I'll have to wait until it's on sale... or if it gets a physical release.

I think it's good that they are finally getting back to creating RPGs in classic JRPG style. But at the same time I'm also a bit disappointed and sad they only put enough budget into it to basically make it at a mobile game level of standard. One of my biggest disappointments recently was to see that even the FFVII remake was turned into an action RPG. It obviously should have embraced the classic battle system, been a long awaited return of a major FF game going back to classics.
From the rhetoric back at E3 when the company was founded, it sounded to me like this game is a litmus test to see whether this sort of "direction" has enough of a demand to justify a heavy investment. So they may choose to weigh in a lot more for future instalments depending on the outcome. The flip side also exists.... ... .. .

It is almost exactly 20 hours long. There are also very few side quests. I didnt find the short length to be a bad thing though. It is paced well so you are happy when the ending comes.

Final Fantasy moving into more of an action RPG genre isn't a bad thing to me, although FF 6,7 and 10 are all some of my favorite games of all time, I like seeing the direction FF15 is going :P
And let's not forget that Square still has Kingdom Hearts which hasn't had a bad game since Re:Chain of Memories (the story was glorious tho)
Some people would argue that dream drop distance is bad I am not one of those people
+Duel Verse Yes, and I mean it's definitely not as good as 2, but I very much enjoyed DDD (everything except young sora and Riku's stupid hair) and will enjoy it again this december except this time with trophies :P

Yep, that is a huge letdown. I still think it's important to buy games like this though because it shows companies that we really do want to support more turn based RPGs.
+DreamcastGuy Truth is I'll always try getting an import before purchasing Digital. I just had Heavy Rain x Beyond Two Souls bundle delivered from Europe last week because of my hate for downloads.
I understamd some types of games just aren't that popular in certain regions, but at least they could do like Song Of The Deep which released limited discs for those of us who truly care about games as an artform, deserving to be kept and held... At least that's how I see it.
Anyway, love your videos man! Been watching for a while now, don't think I've subbed though, will right this second! keep it up :D

final fantasy 5. Dragon Quest is rather lovely too. I actually really want to get this game, but I have too many different games to play in my backlog. Makes spending 30$ to add yet another game to the list kind of difficult, no matter how much I want to support this game idea.
