- In this video we talk generally about how ecosystems form and how this relates to the reef keeping hobby. Maturing a saltwater aquariums microbiome is critical to the long term health if the aquarium. For a variety of reasons explained in this video you can not rush the process of cycling a marine aquarium or the biome cycle. Your fish and corals will thank you for your patience when setting up a saltwater aquarium.

Thanks for explaining that essentially no two tanks are the same. Only time is needed for a maturation of a new tank. I started a tank two years ago and I was able to host acros after 6 mos and my newest tank, took a whole year and I added tons of bacteria and etc. No one could really offer me a good explanation, it was your alk swings, your temp swings, everything swings. Well my other tank swung a lot too. It was always you need this apex or alkatronic or hydros and whatever is new out there and cost a ton. This is what information is needed for beginners and even old vets, not you need this or that equipment.
Exactly, so many hobbyists and companies start tanks with every piece of kit they can possibly fit in the Sump and an array of additives. We suggest starting with the minimum and let the tank tell you what it needs as it matures 👍
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I really like the research that BRS did on microbiome and understanding how they out compete each other. Adding the bacteria is not maturation. It's introducing diversity to compete with the ugly phase. BRS also say to add not only the bacteria from a bottle but to mature you live rock in the dark prior to even setting up the tank and turning on SPS level lighting... cool... that's what I did with my tank.
This video was great. Very informative and I love the analogy
Thanks for watching! We will flesh it out more in future videos.
WOW Tommy! That brain of yours sure is stacked with some beautiful knowledge 😊
Tommy, very sad that Hobby lost Jake Adams who was the guy carrying our hobby. I first saw you on Paul Channel. I can tell your very knowledgeable in Aquarium. The torch is now in your hands. I like to see you continue making videos and sharing your knowledge. Sad to say you remind me of young Jake who also had a beard. Wish you good luck. Like what you're doing.
It’s a terrible loss for the hobby. He was so young- feel really bad for his family and close friends.
Great presentation... I really like how you tied all of the concepts together in the end. This is exactly what us hobbyists needs to understand when it comes to managing these aquariums.
👍
The next video in this series will be coming out within two weeks.
@@tanknicians8839 Cool. May I suggest making sure they are properly titled so that viewers can follow them in chronological order?
I think you are laying the groundwork for some good basic principles and concepts to grasp for taking care of these small ecosystems we keep. I am sure each video will build upon principles established in the video before so being able to follow them chronologically will be wonderful. 👍
Yes much so. Thank you for sharing. I cant wait to learn more. God bless you and your family......🙏❤🙏❤🙏😊🙂😀
Thanks for watching!!
wainting for the next videos, i have reef aquariuns for many many years and this is a subject that i always like to learn more, cause its so little explained normally.
Greetings from portugal
Thanks so much for tuning in all the way from Portugal! How is the reef keeping scene there?
@@tanknicians8839 its good, getting more fans, and gowing for sure, we have some good stores too, propagating some corals. Check my insta if you want, iam a little stoped now, but iam going to post a new project very soon.
Ty
Good luck with this great channel. Greetings from Egypt.
Thanks for watching!
How do you increase micro fauna ? I have added a sand sifting star fish and i dont want him to eat all the beneficial bacteria
Time isn't always the answer for every problem in a reef tank though. Typically its something we are doing wrong such as over feeding, under feeding, improper flow, to much or to little light as examples. Using bacteria products to re-establish balance after a major crash or some major de-stabilizing event can be good practice in my experience.
Love the topic. Please do more of this. The analogies are distracting. Talk about how this works in our tanks.
Makes a huge amount of sense. Loving the afro! 😆

you are truly the beard of knowledge🙂
😂
I'm local how do I go about getting some qtd fish from you? Have prices listed anywhere?
