Taiwan is NOT a part of China. Chinese government TECHNICALLY DO NOT own the sovereignty of Taiwan. ROC and PRC only share the very similar country title, but Taiwan is an independent country by many of the definitions.

P W P W Taïwan IS a country ! It’s not a part of the PRC aka mainland China. Since 1949 Taiwan is a independent country, the Taiwanese elect their presidents for their country. Mainland China has nothing to do with Taiwan . The only reason why Taiwan is not recognised by a lot of countries is because of the pressures from mainland China. Remember that Taiwan was recognised as China in the NU since the creation and until 1972. Mainland China required a choice for the countries, whether The Republic Of China (Taiwan) or People’s Republic of China (Mainland China). Taiwan is my 2nd home but whenever I go vacation to Philippines, I can't wait to go back! I've been living here for 3yrs now, I brought my wife and daughter here and been here for a year now. Its so easy to live here and get comfortable, the people are calm and very helpful. The food and housing and commodities are cheap, the public transport is is efficient. Taiwanese people are peaceful and Taiwan in general is a peaceful and safe place to live.

Taiwan is definitely more influenced by Japan because Taiwanese are polite like Japanese, Chinese are often rude and impolite. Taiwan and Japan often helps each other out, while China is always threatening Taiwan. Taiwan is always helping the world, but China is always creating chaos in the world. If you visit Taiwan and perhaps live here for a while you’ll know that it’s completely different from China and Taiwan is truly an independent country.

As a Taiwan native, I have to say there are a lot of misinformation, mistaken notions, and otherwise inaccurate portraits of Taiwan in this video, irrespective of its other qualities. For one thing, China Airlines was so named because at the time of its formation, it was mostly government backed and financed, and Taiwan's (a geographic name only and never an official name) official name is Republic of China. Sigh......

Here in Taiwan we do not eat cats or dogs at all. It has always been this way. Don’t even know that law exists. We simply never eat them. We Taiwanese literally adore dogs and cats as our pets.

How misleading could this be, “China lost it’s control over the sovereignty, and that’s when Taiwan gained its independence”, I mean, it was Republic of China who was in charge of Taiwan after Second World War and it still is, therefore, I’m not sure what the independence refers to, or independence from whom? @God is great- America is great I don't see any contradictions between the comment we made, we both agree that Taiwan is not a country but rather a province of China, but problem lies deeper on who owns the title of China in general whether it's PROC or ROC, since both side claimed that they're China in their constitutional law, and the rightful owner of all it's land.
We have our own governmental system, our national flag and passport, of course we are not part of China. However, people from China really like saying something untrue via Yutube, Facebook which they are not allowed to use in their country in order to brainwash other people who don’t have clear understanding about Taiwan. That’s why most Taiwanese hate Chinese people so much, it’s too ridiculous to be part of them, but as you know, in all aspects, China is almost the most powerful country in the world, they do not only control other developing and undeveloped countries by loaning them funds which those country could never pay back on time just to control the infrastructure of those countries, but also try to stop Taiwan from attending to some international platforms. Just one example, one month ago there’s a country located in South America passed the free visa policy for Taiwanese tourists, we are happy with that, however, when this news came to China, just one day, that country canceled the policy. So I guess it’s pretty reasonable why we hate China so much. And we will never consider ourselves as part of China.

ngl Alux, as a Taiwanese-American, I found it pretty irritating and disappointing that the voice-over wasn't scripted with a more suitable set of adjectives to describe Taiwanese culture, other than "weird." You can go anywhere in the world and be exposed to a culture that is not yours, and find something within that, that is "pretty weird." We're living in the 21st century--Westerners need to stop speaking about other countries in a way that assumes that You are the neutral culture, and hold the Standard cultural norms. It's unfortunate that many non-Taiwanese and Western consumers of this media don't realize the danger of your poor choice of language and questions (Do you guys think Taiwan is more influenced by China or Japan?) to subtly "other" this country or imply an inferior status. Another thing you might know if you are computer nerd. There are a lot of computer related companies coming from Taiwan, such as ASUS, Msi, Gigabyte. And Dr Su from AMD, Jensen Huang from NVIDIA were born in Taiwan. There is a mall call Guanghua Shopping Center, you can buy all kinds of computer components in that place. Most of guys here have some degree of knowledge about computer hardware.

Many of my family members have been to Taiwan and love it! By the way, I knew that a big argument about whether Taiwan belongs to China would erupt here. Sigh... another China versus Taiwan war. When will it ever end? I find it ridiculous that they try to avoid the sun for fair skin. Your skin color is what it is and cannot be changed like that. Many were very disappointed and shocked that Taiwan is against gay marriage and did not approve it. This happened very recently. Would love to visit Taiwan one day!
Trinh Nguyen many people disapprove gay marriage because they (like my parents) were misled by the anti gay groups, they exaggerated and gave wrong information, for example, approving gay marriage (using confusing words in Mandarin) equals to approve incest or some other ridiculous relationships. They spread these information through Line ( something like what’s app) and mostly to middle and elderly groups, who are not well educated or not good at using internet searching engine.

My parents for example would never approve due to their traditional and old school thinking. I hope they become more informed that it is nothing like what they heard. It is sad how many are so brainwashed by the media and other unreliable sources and believe everything they say. It is not just older people but my older brothers who are only in their late 40s are very bias, ignorant and close minded about many issues about the world not just the gay marriage issue. It is a big issue in the US too but the US is progressing and gay marriage is legalized in San Francisco already and soon other states and cities will legalize it too. Taiwan is NOT a part of China. Chinese government TECHNICALLY DO NOT own the sovereignty of Taiwan. ROC and PRC only share the very similar country title, but Taiwan is an independent country by many of the definitions.

How misleading could this be, “China lost it’s control over the sovereignty, and that’s when Taiwan gained its independence”, I mean, it was Republic of China who was in charge of Taiwan after Second World War and it still is, therefore, I’m not sure what the independence refers to, or independence from whom? Taiwan was never once controlled by People’s Republic of China or the Chinese communism party?

We have our own governmental system, our national flag and passport, of course we are not part of China. However, people from China really like saying something untrue via Yutube, Facebook which they are not allowed to use in their country in order to brainwash other people who don’t have clear understanding about Taiwan. That’s why most Taiwanese hate Chinese people so much, it’s too ridiculous to be part of them, but as you know, in all aspects, China is almost the most powerful country in the world, they do not only control other developing and undeveloped countries by loaning them funds which those country could never pay back on time just to control the infrastructure of those countries, but also try to stop Taiwan from attending to some international platforms. Just one example, one month ago there’s a country located in South America passed the free visa policy for Taiwanese tourists, we are happy with that, however, when this news came to China, just one day, that country canceled the policy. So I guess it’s pretty reasonable why we hate China so much. And we will never consider ourselves as part of China.

You can go anywhere in the world and be exposed to a culture that is not yours, and find something within that, that is "pretty weird." We're living in the 21st century--Westerners need to stop speaking about other countries in a way that assumes that You are the neutral culture, and hold the Standard cultural norms. China took many countries land like whole Tibet country, some part of India forcefully, some part of Pakistan.
Pakistan gifted it to them after India-China war because of fear, they builted artificial islands to take South China Sea, recently they tried to take Bhutan's part but India stopped them. (Don't let them take your country Taiwanese 🙏)

Trinh Nguyen many people disapprove gay marriage because they (like my parents) were misled by the anti gay groups, they exaggerated and gave wrong information, for example, approving gay marriage (using confusing words in Mandarin) equals to approve incest or some other ridiculous relationships. My parents for example would never approve due to their traditional and old school thinking. I hope they become more informed that it is nothing like what they heard. It is not just older people but my older brothers who are only in their late 40s are very bias, ignorant and close minded about many issues about the world not just the gay marriage issue.
