- I have finally started the build and refresh on my Mazda RX-7 and it is only possible because of the support I get from you guys!
Today we are doing the basic first step in modifying a car, and that is adding an air intake system! I have a lot of choices to choose from, but I went the best selling intake for stock turbos and were shocked with the results.

Actually I always considered saving money by going with the generic parts store cone filter, but this one is so much better.

I cut a hole in the bottom of my air box pretty much like the cheap bastard instructions.
I'll buy your stock box thanks 😜 and if you pull the air pump piping off I'll take that too (I'm missing the pipe to the 🐈 converter)

Cheap bastard intake mod is a oem + mod. Done it before to my 95 FD.
@@Macinvodakin I don't have the snorkel CAI made up for it. It does however give me the turbo spool and recirc valve pshhh 😜

Very cool, I'm still running my old school Mostly Mazda Carbon Air box.....very old stuff....
I actually have a carbon intercooler setup coming soon.

These a nice intakes but take my input with a grain of salt. I'm not particularly a fan of these intakes because it's being heat soaked in the engine bay heat and air being pulled off from the electric fan. However every mod isn't all gains. Every mod has a give and take. Ideally it's good to keep intake temperatures low on intercooler and intake side to help prevent pre detonation. If your fd is stock like mentioned in the video. It shouldn't change too much. You will build more boost this way, hear the turbos spool and also be able to work on the FD a little easier. Kindly be mindful if you decide to remove the catalyst or pre catalyst you will experience upboost or overboosting. Which can destroy your engine from lack of fuel. It's all a balance one needs to consider when modifying turbo rotary. Turbo rotary is a bit more sensitive to change when compared to non turbo. Enjoy the fruits of your work and have fun driving. 👍

At least you're using something manageable to get those clamps off. Usually I just try to tell myself that the pliers are too far away and I'll just use my hands. The trouble is that it _kinda_ works but it takes longer than it would have if you had just got the damn pliers. But you don't know that until later, haha
I lost my good pliers so I didn’t have a choice.

Comparing the roughed-in filter to the ones on the diagram it almost looks like that lower cone needs to come forward, or the top needs to go back. Probably the bottom one coming forward since the top is on the bracket. The way you held the bracket looks right to me, though!

is it safe to run those on stock FD without a tune? I know if you change the exhaust or down pipe bare minimum you'd need an apexi power FC or you'll run into major issues.
I have a power fc, I will have it tuned after I install my new exhaust system.

F yea nice video. Just recently got into Rotaries and picked up a 1985 rx-7 FB yesterday. Ripping everything out next weekend and dropping stage 3 engine in it. Cannot wait!
