      @@TheKevinGHutton Your comment is typical of either someone who wasn't alive in the 80's, or a hand wringing collectivist who likes to write off entire decades, because they weren't progressive enough. In previous times, society was more simple and less divided, therefore life was better. We were *much* happier.

    • @danielmorley3690
      @danielmorley3690 Месяц назад

      Oh, they were progressive though, genuinely. Think about how far things came in the 80's on things like gay rights, women getting powerful jobs that once only men could, things vastly improving in this country for ethnic minorities. It seems that the problem that is dividing us is people like you who want to go back to the good old days when you could crack a racist joke and sexually harass women at work. Half the world seems to want to move on, and the other half want to go backwards.

    Apart from the Woolworths ads, I miss the various alcohol ads most. QC sherry stood for 'quite crappy' according to my late Dad! Great memories.

      As a kid you tend to ignore the alcohol adverts, cos you want to see the toys on offer for christmas, but as an adult, i noticed they had so many booze adverts at christmas time. Never noticed as a kid.

    Great collection of 80's Christmas ads, and some regional ones but from all over the UK, which was nice! Awesome. It certainly gave me my nostalgia fix for the day.

    Great adverts, I remember argos being the place we all went, lists in hand, queueing up to get pressies for everyone, woolworths, dixons, the high st when it was a high st. Now its a shadow of its former self, we have more choice yeah, but less choice of where to shop now. Now its the other way round.
    Argos, woolworths, toys r-us, hmv, mr byrite, our price. thats where we all went, there were smaller independant shops, but essentially we would all go into town together with our lists and get everything. Those were good times, great memories. It was a magical time to shop then.

    My sister Pauline from the North East of England used to work in Harrods on the cosmetics counters for Estee Lauder and Pauline used to serve celebrities, movie stars and wealthy Arabs, yet sadly, years later when talking about my family no one ever believed me.

    Great to see old Xmas ads....do people still drink sherry ? I had the button camera

      @@annemariestones3984 It's a pity it's seen as an older persons' drink in this country. Forget 'cream sherry', a bottle of Spanish Jerez sherry can be like a very distinctive, enjoyable fine wine.

      I had a kodak disk camera, it was a commerical flop, but I was the only one in my class to have one, it was amazing, (i know its a camera, but kids to be like, more wow). I actually still have my album and the photos. I put them in a collage, cos those were great times to be taking them, us playing out with new football, running around with lightsabers (knock off force beams), taking pics of our new jackets, spiderman with real web fluid stuck on the wall, driving your mum mad as the doors all covered in spiderman webs. Was great.

    Jesus Stylus were milking that ad! Only the Stock Aitkin Waterman hit factory one interests me, the rest were awful! And the young lady in the woolies ad gets the hip Iggy Pop album while the rest get Aled Jones and Richard Clayderman?? Help!!!! Good festive upload of 80’s christmas ads as usual! Keep up the good work!!!!

    £1200 for that Minolta camera in today’s money!! Those adverts are even more shameless than today. Give us all your money, even if your don’t have any, just because it’s CHRISTMAS!!!
