Muhammad Ali's most significant victory was likely in 'The Rumble in the Jungle' vs George Foreman, especially considering how much of an underdog he was in that fight. Foreman was seen as unstoppable at the time, while Ali was well past his prime. This fight has always inspired me, and I felt motivated to put something together. It’s a reminder to never give up and to prove the doubters wrong!
An icon fight which I cannot believe happened 50 years ago - probably Ali's greatest victory. What a great era this was in heavyweight boxing history.Ali was unique - the fastest heavyweight with feet and hands , great boxing IQ , with a great chin, unbelievable toughness and experience. His resume is incredible having epic battles with Frazier ,Foreman ,Liston ,Norton ,Shavers as well as beating every other top flight heavyweight in the 60's and 70's.
October 30th 1974 was my late father's 21st birthday. He won a load of money on a bet. He was the only person at his work, or in his circle of friends who picked Ali to win. The fight always reminds me of him.

That’s the thing about this fight a younger generation loses to history assuming they aren’t watching the full playback: it wasn’t JUST leaning on the ropes. 4:05 great example ali was blasting him a few times a round keeping him guessing about when a flurry would come. That 4th round at that point was the worst I’d seen George hurt to that point. One official judge actually didn’t give the then champ a single round (judge nourridine) given Ali would deploy rope a dope for long stints some rounds so he awarded 4 of the 7 scored an even draw. Fun fight to watch even knowing the result - thanks for the upload!
Not just the best of all times, but the best example as a human being. Foreman said many years after this fight that Alí was the best person of the world, great father...
What a fight. Ali was a artist and he was showing his class. His art is a challange of all time. Who will break the record of punching speed and equracy. This fight is an axample for all time and a challange for boxers, who will be the reached nearest Ali in punching speed snd equracy.

All time classic performance from Ali. I always think that Foreman could have got up if he'd really wanted to though ... And if he had i would still have picked Foreman to have got to Ali in the late rounds & stopped him
Ali was famous for his energetic performance in the later rounds, he knew that he needed to save energy for then. Foreman was 100% spent at the eight round, he would have fallen over on his own in the 10th. Ali was coasting the entire fight, he had plenty left. Plus Foreman, even in the first few rounds when he was at full power, could never penetrate Ali's defense, he simply couldn't. He had 8 rounds of Ali doing nothing, just coasting and resting on the ropes, he had every chance in the world and he could not penetrate. Ali on the other hand was continually jabbing Foreman the entire fight, and doing significant damage. Ali had studied Foreman's style and had totally defused it. Foreman made zero penetration on Ali's style, as had everyone else.
Ali was lucky this night ….the young big George was arrogant and too aggressive….he was bound to run out of gas in his desire to K.O. Ali ……the old George would never ever of run out of steam in the heat of the jungle …..young George body old George head unbeatable……but on this night he burnt out and old a big head got him …
Ali's most significant victory was in the Supreme Court getting his rights to make a living back. Much like the thrilla in manilla, Ali spent more time cheating than boxing in this one. I recall something in the rules about it being a knockdown if only the ropes are holding you up? Back in the day, in the amateurs, if you leaned on the ropes a ref would tug on the top rope & bounce you off em. I understand it was crafty, & he did what he had to do, but... Much like the 350 times he tugged down Frazier's head, laying on the ropes like that takes away from the beauty, genius, art & ring craft for which I think of Ali.
I’d add that’s not the rule. Super super important bc it seems to have informed your entire opinion on Ali. It doesn’t change that it was crafty but the rules at that time was if the ropes “held” you up with the precedent being if you can’t stand without them. Objectively speaking that’s the rule - it’s absolutely NOT meant to stop people from leaning on loose ropes it was at its core meant to protect a fighter trapped in the ropes. Ali isn’t my goat and I’m no fanboy but respectfully I think you should consider that as it will or should dictate how you view this fight. You’re implying a loop hole was used. If what you said was the rule, I would agree. But undeniably that’s not what happened. The one rule as you know that supersedes literally EVERY single rule in boxing is “obey the refs commands at all times”. This is up there with protect yourself at all times. It the referee doesn’t consider your behavior grounds for a standing count, you continue to fight and protect yourself. Bc the contest was never paused or stopped to address this, you can’t say it was some dirty tactic bc ultimately the in ring ref didn’t feel Ali was violating anything . The ropes were what they were. If you had an issue with it, you should take issue with the rope slack but I’d wager you know you can’t bc that’s ironically the reigning champion’s final authority. If Dundee loosens the ropes just by example, foreman would have STILL approved them with no adjustments made after that . Meaning when they stepped in the ring ultimately the important role of the champion approving ring quality or altesst opining last with no changes made beyond approval was satisfied. Net, he wasn’t held up by the ropes as the rules say and foreman allowed the ropes in that state to be used. Ali was using the tools he had available to him afforded by the standard practices and implantations of the ruleset of the time. It would be like sugar ray leanard trading purse % for the right to select ring size vs Hagler and opted for the larger ring and fewer rounds. I mean is that cheating that he can be significantly more agile in a much larger ring with 3 fewer rounds? It absolutely changed otherwise how the fight goes in a smaller ring over 15. Hagler probably beats him fairly easily. No of course not bc they all agreed and had a chance to intervene. Just like foreman did here. The ref had 2 dozen minutes of action to assess Ali’s use of ropes but he never commanded a change. Was it clever ? Sure. Did it help Ali? Tremendously. Does that take from the win ? It shouldn’t. One judge didn’t even give foreman a single round. The rope a dope heavy rounds were called even by him. Ali didn’t have to do that looking back to be honest. He was humiliating him. Foreman’s form not too long after showed he was vulnerable with a high volume game plan and movement. Even vs formidable power from Lyle. My point is Ali didn’t steal one with tactics here. He just made it look that much easier using those tactics. I get your initial point but at the end of the day it’s truly “prize” fighting. You have to get the prize. Foreman was dangerous. Adapting to the threat in front of you is what makes a fighter great. No one said boxing needs to be pretty. And foreman was outboxed in Zaire
Wonderful commentary from both of you. This is what boxing purists do. We don't always agree, but we actually do when we look at things from a boxing perspective. Worst tactical plan I have seen in history of HW 😂i still cannot believe this result to this day. You get your man to the ropes. In every round . Get him to cover up. He is a sitting duck. Why . Why are you rushing? Why are you overhitting ?Take your time . Slow down . Work on body . Ehhhhhh
Foreman believed he was beating ali for the first 5 rounds and was sure he was gonna fall, he was working the body. By the time foreman knew, it was too late
@@jordacai3889 Yeah, Foreman said later that he thought it was easy. He heard Ali grunt when he hit his body. He thought he would knock him out soon. Ali had other ideas 😅
Thats cause foreman thought Ali was done and was just a matter of time until Ali was knocked out. Instead Ali played him and conserved his energy while George punched himself out 😂. By time foreman realized what was going on he was the one about to be knocked out lol.
Shame on me that I loved Ali so much I watched many of his fights but thinkIng about it I feel so guilty that I enjoyed a sport that took out a man’s life as we watched.
