Absolutely loved this video! Incredibly thorough and exactly what I wanted to know and hear. I only wanted it for the 300lu setting personally with the ability for 1000+…. But wasn’t sure how good the 300 was really going to be. I carry a TLR-1HL on a Glock and I know what 600lu gets me. That walk around with the 300 is amazing information to have. Thank you!

I bought the new 6,000 mAh battery from Nitecore, it provides a good 15% runtime increase (5+ hrs on High) and a more constant output. The battery is a tad expensive, but now I have a backup battery.
I use the MH12 Pro as a complement to the P20iX, they make a marvellous EDC combo.
The P20iX also received a battery upgrade. It is now 5,300 mAh instead of 5,000 mAh, and the upgrade isn't much about runtime, but a slightly higher and more sustained brightness, as the new battery is a 20 Amp capability. Since the new battery is of the "i" type with four poles, it is even more expensive than the plain 21700, but in my opinion is well worth the upgrade.
    Thank you for the review.
    Greetings,
    Anthony

    I like the light.
Yes it does get hot, but how often does one really need turbo for long periods of time?
For spot checks at distance sure.
Wish they would make an NTH holster to fit it.
NTH10 that fits the mh12 v2 will not fit the Pro.
Selling point on nite core was the beacon, sos feature.
Been couple times in unfamiliar deep woods in dark that got turned around while tracking game.
Having a beacon feature allows one still at camp to give a person a beacon to follow back.
In hilly terrain echos can lead ya in wrong directions.
A beacon doesn’t bounce around like audible signals.

If Nitecore switches to an e-switch that MH12Pro would even be shorter, and I'll probably consider getting one because it's a good EDC but ever since I got a hold of an e-switch flashlight I kinda don't want to go back to the old ones.

A bit like a tuners pushing a VW Golf MK2 to 500HP on the front wheels. Huge amounts of power but not able to getting it down.
The Turbo mode only works for a couple of seconds before thermal throttling... this is why the hottest temps were right after switch on.
It just delivers the 3300lm for some seconds.

I have this light and mine runs on turbo for several minutes before stepping down. If yours doesn’t, I’d suggest it’s faulty.

    • @jackmclane1826
      @jackmclane1826 8 месяцев назад

@@Ian.. I think they all throttle down after less than 30 sec. So with normal ambient temps, several minutes before stepping down is not possible. The video here showed it, too with the thermal video. The highest temps were ~30 after start. Then it got cooler again => Thermal throttling!
Maybe you don't see the reduction in light at the beginning? And then only later when a second throttling step has to be done?

The turbo on the nitecore MH12 Pro is way brighter…. But you only get 30 seconds of it before step down. However the beam profile altogether on this light looks better and brighter in all modes compared to the SFT40 led in both our lights

Thank you for this informative and well executed review.
For its size the MH12 pro is certainly impressive, and if I didn't already had the MH-12 SE I might would buy it. However, the two things that Nitecore definitely has to fix is the ugly green tint in the lower modes. It's 2023 for crying out loud, on one can tell me, that it's not possible to make a high rower LED without that puking color tint. The second they need to fix are the steps. A jump from 1050 to 3300 lumens just don't make sense. They either have to make the gaps between the steps bigger or add another (6th.) step or - that would be my favorite - simply bring back the awesome piston drive in an updated version.

Well, we want an extremely bright flashlight that's as compact as possible; that's the problem. Lumens War is the most ridiculous thing I ever knew. A flashlight is a compact portable handheld device; why would someone need to shine the moon?
I think every flashlight manufacturer needs to consider rational output instead of ridiculous, extra-hot, crazy lumens; just make better heat dissipation with a 2000 lumen max output.
Nitecore is great; they're just pushing the limit, as we always wonder: is it possible?

I use the turbo mode of this light to occasionally stun/scare off curious coyotes while walking the dog at night. They really don't like this amount of light pointed right at them. Otherwise, it's in low for dog walking. So I like that this light exists as an option. Absent the coyotes, though, yes, this amount of light is complete overkill for a compact unit for most people.

I have both and I fluctuate between them. It’s a tough call. The Nitecore does have the advantage of having an ultra low mode that you can’t get on the Fenix. Also the Nitecore has an “always start in turbo” mode that the Fenix doesn’t have. For those reasons I’m carrying the Nitecore at the moment, but they are both very good lights with a similar output, though there is a slightly tighter, longer beam on the nightcore.
