heres a few little trap for english learners: 1. some dictionary websites will write incorrect pronounciations [to "preserve" how people spoke like 100 years ago] 2. don't learn the difference between long and shot /i/ by word fill, letter l will cause a little schwah to appear before it, and not all places, and this will add difficulty. Same for words full and fool. I'd recommend fit vs feet/feat and lift vs leaf vowels are the hardest tbh, but they help a lot.
This video has some extremely good advice. The speaker has developed quite an excellent pronunciation considering the vastly different sound repartoire that his native Vietnamese has. Most of his words bear no traces of it, though. What gave him away, though, is that I couldn't hear an [n] or a [d] whenever he said "sounds". I also heard a dấu sắc here and there, particularly in the word "just" alongside of an omission of [s] which is very typical. Finally, and this has always fascinated me, Vietnamese people always assume a Deep South American accent when saying the word "time." Besides these points, the speaker's pronuncation is virtually perfect. I taught English in Vietnam for a year as a T.A., and I found it almost impossible to get students to abandon the ridiculous pronunciation guidelines that they had been receiving from their teachers. As a result, only very few of them could produce English words remotly intelligibly. All they did was to transcribe English words into Vietnamese script - which is asinine and impossible. The students never pronounced the final sounds of words, let alone consonant clusters. "Reserved" came out as "re-zir" and they just wouldn't imitate my correct pronunciation - I assume for fear of being disrespectful towards their teacher who previously taught them this nonsense. It was a very frustrating time. I wish any one of my students' pronunciation had been as good as this speaker's.
I've been following your tips for improving my English earlier in 2015 and i really love ur work and your accent always makes me feel like if you do it i can do it too.thanks so much for your support by putting these amazing videos here and sharing your ,experience in learning English with us and i watch your videos whenever i feel depressed and stress 'bout learning this language ,i sense so much progressing in my speaking ,reading ,listening and writing skills since i started following your tips,i .just read non-fiction book and listening for an hour of podcasting show am looking forward to see so good stuff 'bout those skills .thanks so much
This was wonderful. You would have laughed out loud watching me learn how to pronounce Mandarin, and I was better than most in the class. Our poor professor; I thought she must go home at night and cry her eyes out. I wish I'd known of your techniques a long time ago. My grandmother (Spanish) used to "wash" television. :)
Thanks so much for your videos, they have encouraged me in how to speak English well. they are really fun and easy to be absorbed. Hope to see more interesting ones from you.
Just for curiosity, Can I know where you come from? For me, it's very interesting to find such a good English speaker who isn't native. I'm trying to (and I have to) speak the best English that I can.
Nur, Greetings. I'd like to chat with you. However, I'm busy right now. I think in few months I'll be free to chat. If it works to you, contact me later.
Bro istg i speak more english then any other language but since i also speak french too i have kinda a french accent while speaking english and an english accent while speaking french and an english-french accent while speaking arabic.
Hey! When i subscribed to you channel, i recieve a message "tips for speaking skill if we can not travel or study abroad" but i did't find where it is. So can u give me links?
Hey, I haven't created the video series for that yet. I'm currently working on the pronunciation series. But don't worry. You will receive updates when they're released since you're a subscriber.
The funny thing for me is that i feel like my pronunciation is better in English than in my native language. Reason for this is that I had a short tongue frenulum when I was born, and we didn't cut it until I was 8. You learn how to speak when you're 5-6. So by then my way of speaking was already "set". I also never received any speach therapy after we cut it, despite them being aware of the problem and giving it before I cut it, which was wasted as I physically was unable to produce the sounds due to my tongue being tied. As I learned English after the age of 8 I had no constraints while learning the new sounds and words. I still make mistakes in English pronunciation, but I can always blame that on it being my second language. I have no valid excuse for my native language :(
you are absolutely adorable. especially since you're clearly popular, a primary source for teaching english.. over a million views!! that's awesome. and yet, you're still quite far off !! hahaha, it sounds like a soup of different accents 😂 i found it more distracting than if you were speaking english in your own accent. by the way!! i hope this doesn't come off as rude.. i think you're great, and i'm very impressed by not only your hard work and perseverance, but also your desire to help others by sharing what you've learned. maybe a little prematurely 😅 but beautiful nonetheless! the reason i'm pointing it out is not to be discouraging, mean, or anything negative about your progress or you as a person.. quite the contrary... i find it fascinating that the english language apparently has so much more of a barrier to entry than (most) other languages. because english is my native language and i grew up in the US, i can't really understand what english is like to a non-speaker, from a firsthand perspective. however, i was born and raised in miami, a relatively diverse city. i had friends of all different backgrounds, and many of my closest friends learned english as their 2nd language... so i was able to gain some insight into the english language from several different perspectives. all these people from different cultures, fluent in multiple languages, all seem to agree that english is the most ridiculous, unnecessarily difficult and absurd language to learn; grammatically, phonetically, visually, etc. long story short... good job!!
Thank you! Very informative and makes me want to share with my students. However, it seems your "s" is not pronounced true sss, it's kind of between "s" and "th", sometimes it's even more "th" than "s". Also the word "time" is pronounced more towards "taam"...Because of these two reasons, I'm hesitant to show this video to my students...
Actually I pronounce my native language bad as well. Just because of diction.. I speak fast and nobody understands it. I guess I should start doing some exercises.
Be aware. I have RUclips channel and my pronunciation is not bad. But these guys mock you all the time no matter how good my English is. They pretend to be tolerant. But believe me you should hit in return. So never improve your accent. These people don't deserve your attempt.
The solution is to hear a native speaker say it, and try very hard to pronounce it like they do. Even though it feels silly you will be able to do it. Slowly, it will become natural. I think having an accent isn't a bad thing, however.

Thanks man, as a Spanish speaker sometimes I get laughed at for having an accent and not being able to pronounce words right, this was really helpful
same, specially the difference between 'v' and 'b'
e.g. base && vase :(
king, u're my hero
As Finnish I always get "Oh how cute you're trying to say"
I don't even speak my local dialect, but there's still some interference
I think English with Spanish accent sounds really adorable. Dont think its something you should fix
For a person who is always struggling with "e" & "i", hit & heat, etc..., this is really helpful. Thanks!!
Hit /hɪt/
