There is no other instrument that encapsulates the human spirit quite like the cello. In one stroke you can hear joy, sadness, love, anguish, sorrow, ecstasy, and despair. Just a hauntingly beautiful instrument.
As a cellist, at first i thought that these guys, (2 cello's) were just playing cello with pop and improvised pieces, but this is real talent! He is one of the best cellists i have ever heard!
@@paulinemelancholie3030 Agree. But just to modify the info a bit, as I know, it is Stephan who won 21 prizes, and Luka won numerous 1st prizes more than Stephan's. Both of them are extraordinary musicians in Classics.
I love cello songs that emphasize deeper notes. Lots of pieces try to make the cello sound like the violin or viola, when the lower notes are so beautiful and the reason why I chose to play the cello.
+Joseph Clayson So true what you say about the use of the lower register of this beautiful instrument. Not enough of it. And to hear them played like this, heaven.
@@axillamantova8912 Honestly I dont like it if they have a bias to either high or low. I think a beautiful piece should use both the the higher and lower registers
Some players are virtuoso. Some are artistic. Seldom do you get someone this talented, technically, who also bears the deepest part of their humanity for all the world to see. Both of these cellists are off the charts phenoms, but Luka, is just a little more special. He has that something extra. I just saw them on tour in NYC. One of the best live performances of any kind I have ever been to. Wanted to jump on the train and follow them to Philly the next day. And I mean this in all seriousness, thank God for artists like this. They take us to a place few get to see, and we are better for it.
As a cellist, I just assumed these guys were a 'pop' product. Then I found some of their classical recordings and realised they are the finest of virtuoso cellists who just enthusiastically explore every aspect of the cello's repertoire. I used to mess around with metallica on my cello as a kid and was scolded by teachers. Glad to know I wasn't the only one!
Edward, so they ARE virtuoso? I studied to be a classical French Horn player and therefore played in large orchestras so I never heard our very capable string players perform solo. I've heard many concert cellists play classical repertoire and know that they are virtuoso because they get hired by big named orchestras worldwide. But with these guys? Artists, absolutely. That can be seen in any genre if it's there. But virtuoso? Seems like it to me but I don't know string technique. Do you think that if they'd gone the classical route they would be concert cellists? Just saw them again Saturday in NYC. Wow...
The cello is a part of Luka Sulic... without it, he is without soul! The feeling that he sends made the the bow and strings is not only music, is a part of Luka's soul. Thank you Luka for sharing that feeling and music with us... love it!
those moments in life when you hear something so powerful , it gives goosebums and tears at the same time. how lost this world would seems with out classical music.
Like 99% of people don’t even know anything about classical music, sadly. The world is pretty lost. The most exposure people have to it these days is in some stupid movie or TV show briefly.
As a cellist who has been playing the better part of a decade, this interpretation is one of the best I have heard. Although fast, it is a symphonic piece meaning the conductor sets the tempo even though he could communicate a tempe preference with the conductor a head of time. His school of playing is a flashy and aggresive style that to me, hits the mark on the emotionality of the piece. Just because a cellist has a different interpretation from another does not mean that it is the wrong interpretation.
TehStupidBish While Lloyd is quite good. I just prefer Sulic's intrepretation here. Really profound, melancholy with a wide range of emotions/ Just a beautiful piece all around.
Reading through some of these comments...BAH! Who says an elegy must be slow?? Can't people mourn with PASSION? I think they are thinking of a dirge. He puts a lot of emotion in it...one of the reasons why it's great to be an amazing cellist for these slower pieces. You can be freer and more emotional with the playing if you're already great at the notes. I for one love the way he played it. Gorgeous :)

And tragically under-used as a solo instrument. Composers always had a hard on for violins. Viola sounds amazing too, but it’s also so neglected.
Parce qu'il est l'instrument le plus proche de la voix humaine, couvrant la plus large tessiture. ❤

This piece is beautiful I’m playing this right now!
I just wish the orchestra played less loud at times, its too distracting and you can hardly hear this wonderful cello playing.
Of all the Elegies of Gabriel Fauré recorded so far for nearly a century, that of Luka Sulic is an absolute masterpiece unequaled.
I love cello songs that emphasize deeper notes. Lots of pieces try to make the cello sound like the violin or viola, when the lower notes are so beautiful and the reason why I chose to play the cello.
