God bless the late, legendary Ann B. Davis, for shakin and bakin it for 6 decades! Including all those years she's played the Best Alice Ever on the Brady Bunch! We love Alice 4 Ever! Alice rules!
General Foods decided, in 1981, that it wasn't enough that John Braden had successfully pitched Shake 'n Bake as "Pete the Butcher" for almost 10 years...so "Alice" pops up to help him sell more. Great teaming, but the mix itself was losing ground to General Foods' more popular coating, "Oven Fry". You can still find both on grocers shelves today- from Kraft Foods.
I saw the actor who played Pete the Butcher in these ads doing a play in Long Wharf, Connecticut back in the 70s. He was already doing these, but they were supporting what he really wanted to do. It was O'Neill's Ah Wilderness and he was pretty good, too.
For nine chicken experts. She even made a Brady tie-in here. It's been said that Ann Bradford Davis is "happily retired" and doesn't do many TV appearancea anymore. Too bad. IF they ever did another Brady reunion I'd love to see her on it.
That was the Brady Bunch actress Ann B. Davis who was Alice Nelson, the Bradys' housekeeper. Not to be confused with Linda Lavin's character Alice Hyatt. LOL
It's actually better to just put the Shake N Bake in a large bowl and smother the chicken pieces in the stuff, if you do it in the bag, the coating mix goes nicely over ONE PIECE, and then there is not enough of the mixture for your other pieces. The whole thing with the bag is a cute gimmick, and it's fun to sit there and shake it in the kitchen like a real idiot, but the bowl process is a little more effective and juicy.
Do the shake and bake and put the flavor back! do the shake and bake and put the flavor back! When you chicken smells clean your oven does too Everytime you cook REMEMBER WHAT TO DO! Do the shake and bake and put the flavor back SHAKE AND BAKE A NEW CHICKEN FRAGRANCE FROM GLADE
@laneatlileden okay now, play nice!!!......i had a chance to meet Alan Melville(Sam the Butcher)years ago in Baltimore.......nicest guy you'd ever wanna meet; he was a big lovable lug in person, too!!.....btw, i was just kidding about the "play nice" part....take care!!
Hmmm...Ann B. Davis did commercials for Shake-n-Bake, and Florence Henderson did commercials for Wesson Oil. Man, just how much chicken did the Bradys consume?
LOL, four cutup chickens will wield about 32 pieces of chicken. Every one gets 3 pieces of chicken (27), leaving 5 extra pieces...assuming the men are gentlemen, it would go to the ladies :) Yeah I know...pointless observation :)
I think "Pete" was looking at the way "Alice" was doing her own shake and bake! He gave her everything for free! That rat bastard Sam would have charged her, and then later made her pay for her own bowling shoes!
Wait a minute, nine chicken expert/ That would be six kids Mr. and Mrs. Brady and I guess Alice is sitting down also.It was well known “Pete the Butcher” was never good with names

I had a dream about Alice and I sitting around... We had a weird night and then boom! Wake and Bake... T'was awesome.
So memorable!
This was filmed in Hoboken, New Jersey. I was there when I was a teenager. Ann B. Davis gave me her autograph and a wink!
So glad somebody else remembers this! Although I recall it as something like "Shike and Bike -- and WEEEEEEEE HAY-ulped." Hope someone can post.
Just had some! It was good!

RIP John Braden
My family tried Shake 'n Bake ONCE. Even the dog wouldn't eat it. That was 1968 and I've never had it since.
Like Sam the butcher bringing Alice the meat
Like Fred Flintstone driving around on bald feet.
Great

There sure were a lot of commercials for homemade fried chicken until the 1990s.

I think "Pete" was looking at the way "Alice" was doing her own shake and bake!

Pete and Sam were barking up the wrong tree. Alice wasn't diggin' the men-folk.
Wait a minute, nine chicken expert/ That would be six kids Mr. and Mrs. Brady and I guess Alice is sitting down also.It was well known “Pete the Butcher” was never good with names
Um. I actually don't know what "it makes needle in gold" means. can anyone shed some light on the subject?
Ann B. Davis ?
Yeah, I did her....
@laneatlileden his meat wasn't enough :O Thats to Mrs Brady and alice wesson and shake n bake was always in my house :(
She forgot the chicken. :(
Shame the Brady's wouldn't even let her eat at the table with them....
Alice is evidently getting meat all over town.

Yeah I get it and so did she...from Jane Hathaway from the Beverly Hillbillies...right in her dressing room.
Pete? I thought the butcher's name was Sam. She must have been cheating on poor Sam.
Sorry for the obvious joke, but someone had to.
