Lovely and useful addition to the property. Now I understand the large window and double doors. It looked as if you had a great time doing it together.
I put a EPDM roof on my 8m x 15m workshop 12 years ago. Superb quality and very easy to fit even for a first-time DIYer. It was so heavy my dad and I couldn't lift it onto the roof! We had to rig an old winch and make a slide out of an old wooden ladder. The EPDM still looks brand new. I'm very pleased with it
I had the same issue and used two aluminium ladders as slides and two ratchet straps to pull the roll up the ladders. I looped the ratchet straps around the roll and took both ends of strap onto the roof. Standing on one end and pulling on the other allowed me and my daughter to roll the EPDM up the ladders so that we weren't dragging the roll, which might have torn it.
Great build Keith. I used that exact roof system on the garden office I build (which I used a SIPs construction method for), and you’re right; it’s so easy and great quality. A note of caution with folding in that return in the EPDM rather than cutting it off as you should: rain will wick around underneath it and sit on the timbers. It will also, over time, find its way through the nail holes and into the soffits.
I've not been a subscriber for long but I really do like the way you break down the costs involved. Thanks for that. Your format and presentation (humour included) are spot on. Keep up the great work!
My youngest son and I did something similar. We originally had a similar roof. However after a particularly bad gale the roof leaked. Cured this by fitting galvanized corrugated metal sheets. The shed is now bone dry. Got a hardwood door and a double glazed window for free at our local recycling centre. Great satisfaction building it ourselves.
I really like the rubber roof, this is a great option for longevity and I like that you gave the roof an overhang as this will help a bit to reduce water hitting the sides. I am sure your brother is well pleased with the outcome and you managed to get it all done on a tight budget too. Great job.
Interesting project, thank you Keith. Just a couple of things about the roof. Firstly, I think it's better to run a length of roof batten (typically 25 x 50) along the roof edge taking the gutter. This ensures the water runs off clear of the roof line into the centre of the gutter (more or less). Secondly, when fixing the corner plates and joint covers, only fix one side with adhesive, not both as the trim needs to be able to expand and contract.
🥳YELLOW SHORTS🥳 Great job Keith. Loved this build and your little niece. A bit worried about the rain tracking the EPDM underneath and rotting the wood though.
This is EXACTLY what I'm looking at building in our new garden soon when we move and get settled. I want to move the existing shed up the top of the garden and build this in its place. Been researching what to put down as a foundation. It's got a massive Bramley apple tree that'll be overhanging so it'll be handy for something to stop the apples smashing onto the floor as well as a platform for me to climb up to pick the apples.
I had decided that you had donated your "Lucky Shorts" to the thrift store or that your wife had convinced you throw them away. Now, I know that the shed will turn out well with the power of good luck on your side.
Great job Keith, and excellent to see some teamwork from the Brown clan, not too many Chuckle-brother moments either, I can really see the family resemblance ! From my experience 2x4s are plenty for an 8ft span especially with structural OSB pulling the whole thing together, having the centre wall will certainly help stiffen up the whole structure though ! Overall an excellent result and great value for around £2k, with the material choice and attention to detail on the build it should last for many years ! Nice to hear from your Niece again "Keefy", what a great uncle to have ! 😉
I put EDPM on my 4x3m shed approx 15 years ago and it's still like brand new. Yes it's expensive upfront but pays back by never needing to be done again. About the only complaints I have is that it really does heat the shed up in the summer (if in sunlight) and wear old clothes if you need to get up there, it sheds a black dust even after all this time.
Interesting. I am looking to replace my garage roof and using rubber seems the way to go although I have seen fibre glass versions Mind you I will need beefier beams as I may be putting solar panels on.
Great project. I built a wood working work shop during lock down after watching a few you tube videos. I make chessboards and chopping boards. Great content, thanks.
Great job! Looks very professional! Your brother must be very pleased. I’ve used an EDPM roofing system before and I was similarly impressed. As you say, quite expensive but extremely durable and long lasting.
The more I see about that type of roofing, the more I like it! I was going to use it on my workshop roof originally. The only thing that stopped me was turning up some "slight seconds" insulated roof panels for cheap on marketplace. It's roughly a 12 x 42 foot roof, so had to go with the cheapest option I could. The roof I was replacing had been on there since it was built in 1960, and had only failed due to the ivy that had taken over. We removed *lots* of it. Hopefully the current roof will see me out! My next garden building project is going to be a clock tower on the shed roof, because I can 😂 I have been toying with putting a small epdm flat roof at the top of the tower. Not sure yet though
Very smart looking and well made shed! I've been interested in these rubber roofs but always thought they would suffer from UV exposure (if you have ever left a vehicle sat outside for a few years you'll know what I mean with tyres). The 50 years seems unbelievable! GRP is often expected to last as little as 20 years on the low end (obviously much longer is possible).
Hi Keith, That is a decent looks shed I would be proud of that shed if it was in my garden, well done. With those shorts on I know you meant business. A great build project, take care
A little late in the season for the pineapple shorts, but I’ll take it! Such a great project! I didn’t understand the two doors before, but making it double duty is an excellent use of the space. And good to see that sourcing previously used materials runs in the family. 😀
You are so Keefy from here on out. Translation: I love you Keefy. Father hid the map to the treasure beneath the left rear paver off the shed. Remember it's 50/50, a deal's a deal.
Love these shed build videos! You make it look easy enough it makes me want to take on a similar project myself, Keith! Can't help you with the translation, sorry!
Fantastic shed build . My wife has put in an order for one already, I’ve exhausted all relevant excuses so that’s in my future. I know we’ll never meet in person, but you’ll forever be known to me as “Keefy” from this day forward.😂
Nice job Keith but when you said l have my serious shorts 🩳 on I was thinking oh no 😂😂 I don’t know if can get used to your shorts 😮 nice work great video 👏👏👍
With cats about, have you considered adding a cheap cat flap and set it to exit-only? Thus when any moggy gets inadvertently trapped in the shed, at least it has an escape mechanism.
Nice job Keith the translation is i love you Keef because you help me with lots of things and you give me lots of cuddles. Dad of 2 5 year olds and 6 year old kid writing 😂 looks great mate although 😲 costings 👍🏴

Thanks so much June! It was a lot of fun
Love that you are so frugal and glad to see your 'serious' work shorts😊.
your brother is a lucky man the shed looks fantastic keith
Thank you very much
I reckon I've translated your niece's message!
"I love you Keithie because you help me with lots of things and you give me lots of sweets!"
That's impressive! I think the last word is meant to be cuddles though 😁

Your brother is lucky to have you. The shed/summer house looks awesome.

Thanks Barry 👍
They are back!
Love how easy you have made the build look Keith. Hopefully it will encourage people to build their own.
Thanks mate
9:22 The translation, I think: I love you Keith because you help me with lots of things, and give me lots of gifts!
You may want to add some insulation in the future you help keep cooler in summer and warmer in winter to get more use from it. Brilliant build Keith.
🥳YELLOW SHORTS🥳 Great job Keith. Loved this build and your little niece.
A bit worried about the rain tracking the EPDM underneath and rotting the wood though.
The trim probably will rot first for sure, but it's easily replaced
I love that you break down the costs at the end. Keep it up... Or as your niece might say, Keef it up.
I had a small shed with felt roofing but our cat, and the local ones as well, tended to use it as a scratching matt

The Shed really does look good and what a good idea to have the working shed and summer house as two rooms. Very enjoyable, thanks, Keith.
Thank you

Stunning shed but I believe water will get in between the rubber and trim at the bottom
It's a shed, and it is well ventilated. It will be fine.

Killed it, bro. Made it look effortless. Great job!
Very nice build! The roof looks great and I think you did a much better job than any prefabricated shed.
Higgledee Piggledee??? 🤣❤ I love it!!!!!!!
Well yes, of course... nothing says serious like yellow shorts!😊 (Nice deal and great job on the soffit vents)

Incredible Keith, worth every penny!
Nicely done and seems to be much better quality than what I would get for 2000€ here in Germany in a kit.
Very nicely done. Personally I would just have it all as workshop using the ‘summer house element’ as the clean area for finishing work.😉

What a brilliant project and very well executed. That's what I should have used on my shed roof, it would have been cheaper in the long run.

Thats one serious shed build. Looks great

Brilliant looking shed, would love to build my own, great video thanks
Nice job Keith.👍👍

Great job mate. Especially making good on the window and door salvage. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
The shed looks very nice great job 👍
Put the EPDM on my shed last weekend one of the hottest of the year ended up with blisters on my knees boy that stuff really gets hot🥺
It really does!!
That’s where all you Hikoki gear went 😂! Great build, shed will outlast your brother!
I’ll bet by now the wife has taken over the entire shed. A sewing room you know. 😂
Awesome work. Love it
Great work well done. Could you share the EPDM kit you used? I tried shingles but failed 😢!
Very nice design.
So... that's where all your Hitachi/Hikoki tools ended up then :D Great shed !
You know it! Cheers
How did you get power to the shed?
I love your videos, thanks dude.
Thank you very much
Very nice job.
Thank you!
I think it looks great! Nice job.
Let's hope Henry and Marble don't scratch the EPDM roof stuff.
Nice job and looks great.
👏👏👏
You can add slabs or other coverings if the roof is designed to take the extra weight.
Loving the build...
What is the name of the type of window external type window frame
With cats about, have you considered adding a cheap cat flap and set it to exit-only? Thus when any moggy gets inadvertently trapped in the shed, at least it has an escape mechanism.
Great job both, you can sell the house now and move in LOL, have a nice day all !!!.😀😀 !!!.
Well done!
That came out nice!
Very nice work very informative video 😊
Would the permitted development height not be measured from the ground to roof line at the top of the slope rather than bottom?
Not sure tbh!
The real question is should it be measured at all?
World's not coming to an end because my new workshop is 2600mm high.
This is correct - the measurement is taken from the highest land directly adjacent to the build 👍
Should the EPDM go over the trim? Or is that just the GRP way of doing it?
How much water based adhesive was needed for this project as I am going to do my basic size garage and wondering if 5 liters is enough???
Inspirational mate 💪🏻
