@@marcelficoul3618 it definitely helps that some players know the fight already and that the chat is telling him what to do. Also, I imagine that the cuts in the video in between attempts were spent talking about what went wrong. Asmongold also has raiding experience from other games that transfers over. Sometimes he also watches a guide before streaming. It’s the perfect mix to be able to clear things within a couple hours. Lots of people, particularly those with statics or free companies, cleared this content the day it was released, but casual players, which make up the bulk of the community, struggled with it. Extreme fights are the bridge between casual players who just do easy mode in the main story and serious players who farm savage content with their statics. Some fights have also been nerfed on purpose, while others got nerfed indirectly. They tweak the jobs every expansion, so the skills and abilities you had in 2015/2016 are not exactly the same as the ones we have in 2021. Compared to the average casual / semi casual player, he’s beating fights a heck of a lot faster. Most of the difficulty in these scripted fights actually comes from people making mistakes and having to adjust around it. When you get a party of casuals going in blind, it can get pretty messy.
@@Zoeila To be fair there's a bloody big difference between A2S and A3S in terms of difficulty. Fun fight though, phase 3 was interesting when at one point it was just my GNB soloing his last 20% hp.
This fight and Nidhogg ex were by far the two best Extremes in 3.0. They were nuts and your dps had to be on point. Thordan has a mechanic that every time you died, it buffed the boss so even now, if you're not careful he still hurts. This fight was fun back in 3.0, still fun to this day. It may have been slightly easier now with the different toolkits for the classes, and no TP. But Thordan is no joke at min ilvl.
@@GodMeowMix It was actually delayed, they planned 2 Ultimate encounters per expac so we were supposed to get two for Shadowbringers but only got TEA because of Covid. I don't foresee Asmond getting either a solo PoTD or Ultimate cleared before Endwalker, which is fine. But if he's only at Thordan EX, there's ALOT of content and EX fights to still clear.

@@Nothing03178 It honestly depends on the competency of the entire party. That and whether or not you're syncing the fight, having echo, etc. From an average player's perspective, I'd say most people go through a couple of lockouts before they get their first clear on most Extreme Trials.

The music from 2nd phase still gives me chills whenever I hear it. The group I was with at the time had finally beaten it the day right before the maint that would enable echo, making it the last "legitimate" day to clear it before it was "nerfed". It was such an intense feeling to finally have everything on lock well enough to clear at long last. It's such a good fight! Congrats on the clear!

Think about it... this is content from years ago and it's still difficult with min ilvl and echo off. That's how you keep content fun and relevant. Plus, you can get cool rewards like mounts, glams, etc, from it, so it's worth doing.

@@fmi005 Is it a shock that older game content is easier if you do it on higher Ilvls? This is how difficult the fight was at release, it's hardly a handicap.
I remember doing this fight when it came out. Still probably my favorite fight. Also, unlike some other trials, as gear improved over the course of the expansion, you couldn't skip phases with higher DPS, you could only shorten the battle. Really well designed boss.
Only downside of thordan was that it was the only “good” part of a patch we waited months and months for. The post HW drought caused a lot of people to unsub and then we just got slapped with void ark, diadem, and lords of verminion.
@@Exaltable Yeah. Thankfully, the release of content has fallen into a much more consistent rhythm since then. Even now, in the "drought" leading up to Endwalker, we're getting seasonal events pretty much every month.
you absolutely can and well could skip mechanics he transitions at 70%, the downtime phase with meteors at the end is scripted in a sense and no mechanic there can be skipped except for the tankbuster, and on last phase the higher ur group dps the easier the fight. His group was on the lowside in dps. On this fight to know ur dps is good you need to kill sword add in 1 tank buster rotation and have to kill all orbs+ middle orb before even seeing the meteor on the screen.
Dominic and Evelyn, power couple. Fucking amazing effort by all involved taking on the undisputed king of Extreme fights on the hardest difficulty allowed mechnically by the game. Now, Alexander Savage is driving him nuts. Also, I like how he immediately links Ser Zepherin's Spear of the Fury to the Haurchefaunt moment.
"How many Knights are in the round table? It's like Twelve or Nine? We're on the third knight? We're halfway done." But on the real? He's definitely one of the hardest ex primals. Good clear! Grats! Oh my god we were so squishy in Heavensward. Seriously squishy. We needed a SCH in with AST to give us extra protection. WHM was completely shafted in HW making them 3rd tier heals. God.... I wish you could have run this content when at first. This and the first two days of "Steps of Faith" clears were badges of honor and respect before that got nerfed.
Jeez I remember before the steps of faith nerf. Took me 3 weeks to get that clear, but the story was locked behind it. I remember so many pugs disbanding as soon as someone admitted they didn't know the fight! I still have ptsd from that fight XD even though it's easy now
I wanna see him do the Stormblood primals. They're a step down in overall difficulty but a giant step up in personal responsibility with a lot more tank mechanics. Moonbunny is gonna be fun to watch. We Dark Knights might have been squishy in HW but at least we weren't Paladins in the magic damage expansion. I understand why they gave them the ability to block magic damage but it seriously took away DRKs niche. Now we're WAR with a worse inner release but a mitigation cd that doubles as a dps cd _if the fucker ever breaks._ I honestly hope they nerf the shield on TBN a bit in 6.0 so it's more useful in more content.

Thordan has always been nuts. We use to spread a crit adlo to the whole group and have the whm and pld cast stoneskin on everyone just to eat all the damage going out

Also, him learning the fights as he does them is also great to see, I cant wait to see him try Stormblood and Shadowbringers raids and trials as they keep getting better and better. Thank you Asmon for being entertaining.
It's very enjoyable to watch you go through the fights at min ilvl and no echo; it's how I remember the fights during prog. Fond memories of how this fight smacked the hell out of my new raid team full of baby raiders at the time, and how we clutch cleared it (our MCH was last one standing and won us the clear.) Thanks for the video and reigniting these fond old memories.
A lot of respect to asmongold for going this route. Really cool and it's a great effort. I know he's in character but his "we're doing great" speeches really are positive.
I’m upset that I missed the clear, but Dom clutching it out felt like a redemption arc after the 0.1% wipe on t10 Coils. What an absolute god gamer, and while everyone did a great job during the raid, Dom really saved the day at the end. If I ever see Dom in-game, I’d give him a full stack of pizzas, completely bankrupting my character.
Well done. Starting from heavensward, they really start piling on the mechanics. I won't spoil anything, but you're in for a treat come Savage. And by treat, I mean a candy apply made of razor blades, with razor blades inside those razer blades, and coated with little, tiny razor blades.
The amount of retries here is definitely more in line with my experience when the extreme trial was just released. The under 10 clears for the ARR content is mostly because people have ran those ad infinitum that a decent group can still carry 1-2 new players to a win relatively quickly. Good job!
Asmon couldn't see Zephiram charging in because his camera is always angled downwards and he's used to DBM telling him to move instead of using his eyes. At the end he says he doesn't like boss fights that make you move your camera. Well, in FFXIV, there is no DBM telling you when and where to move so you actually do have to use your eyes and he's going to have to learn how to use his camera. Also, mentor chat really needs to learn how Astro works before crying about double hots. Shield stance sucks and there is nothing wrong with Aubis going Diurnal with another WHM.
I was saying as DRK I often cringe when I get an astro healer. They will be great or really suck. Someone in my FC said, "Oh, you keep getting shield astros, don't you?" Yup...
Mentor chat is just huffing the copium hard with their precious 'VeRsAtIlItY" getting axed next expansion in favor of Sage. Diurnal has always been better, and they know it. They just don't want to admit every single class defining feature for AST is poorly designed jank, and the only redeeming quality it has is pretty effects everyone turns off.
This is why final fantasy has raised my expectations for boss fights in every mmo, I have yet to fight a boss as hard as ones from FFXIV in another mmo. It’s never fun when things are too easy
Glad to see Thordan still lives up to his reputation of being a massive pain in the ass lol. Now that he has cleared, I think it would be interesting to see Asmon react to a guide video of this fight and compare his experiences with that.
It's a running gag in my FC that Thordan and his knights are our rival FC. We've spent literal hours trying to get this fight down UNSYNCED! and we still have trouble sometimes if there aren't enough of us to do it properly.
Hurr durr "this [party member] is bad" hurr durr "please replace X with Y" hurr durr "regens don't stack" hurr durr. Just let the man and his party play on their terms. Jeez. Anyways, that was an awesome fight during stream! Also, Dom with the epic clutch and his well-timed LB3s. Loved every second of it!
Also… regens do stack, shields dont stack. Red Mage gets rez at 64 so can’t use the for Rez until Stormblood trials. Chat just makes me facepalm at times.
The most impressive about watching the stream was the tenacity of him spending half a day with the entire raid just wiping non-stop and still being able to grind away at it. I went to work and came back and he was still doing it. The Man might be a twig IRL but he's got a ton of mental stamina and perseverance.

How can you not keep trying when your having so much fun I can go on and on and on because of how much I'm enjoying it lol it's I grab a beverage then it's beast mode from on then
You might discover a trend among all final boss extreme trials. That unlike the others, who have repeating verses in their script, these final bosses are far more dynamic and far less prone to repeating verses. Because of how every thing that happens next is different, random and/or combo'd it makes them more difficult than the regular extremes. With some exceptions, obviously. Where the non-final bosses tend to have repeating verses, the final bosses will require you to learn many more different mechanics. Final boss extremes also tend to have a way to instantly wipe the entire party if any one of you is KO'd and/or had screwed up.

he is not really hard to be honest ... the proof, they did that at 7 players and one spoiled kid
@@marcelficoul3618 who's the spoilt kid?
@@henriedavid Asmon , the kid who wants to clean HL content with expert players and to be main tank ... thanks daddy sea lion is here to save him
@@marcelficoul3618 it definitely helps that some players know the fight already and that the chat is telling him what to do.

How long do it usually take to kill Thordan EX for a normal player perspective?
@@Nothing03178 normal player when a new ex fight comes out it’s usually expected to take 1-5days to clear if you are doing it with random people (often times your progress will reset due to others having to learn parts you already know). @@Nothing03178 It honestly depends on the competency of the entire party. That and whether or not you're syncing the fight, having echo, etc. From an average player's perspective, I'd say most people go through a couple of lockouts before they get their first clear on most Extreme Trials.

This is the first fight where you have to resolve 3-4 mechanics at once, and sometimes, its up to 6 (3 on half the group and 3 on another)
Literally saying: "I can't see shit" is the mantra of this fight. Just so much stuff happening at once.
Just did it today and a lot happening at once is exactly what I said
The music from 2nd phase still gives me chills whenever I hear it.

You dont get anything from min ilvl or no echo. You can remove scaling and oneshot everything at max level
@@Plusimurfriend I know you can do it unsynced and still get the items, but it's still great that you can do the content as it was originally intended (or as close as you can get). It gives a bigger sense of accomplishment.

Also with ARR EX trials Blue Mages are doing the Synched for spells etc. There is no spells from Thoridan EX for Blue.
