Not all kamen riders are cyborgs, only Showa Era's riders (before 2001), after that period, most riders are just normal people who get the ability to transform into Kamen riders with each protagonist has a different occupation: doctor, scientist, writer, student, policeman, Tech Company 's CEO,...
Ahhhh i see
@@favizy just to add a bit to the original comment. not all heisei riders are normal humans who can transform. kamen rider's like Faiz (555) and Kiva are not 100% human.
Showa era is up to 1989 not 2001
@@Jay_D_AsheYes, hence technically Kamen Rider Black, J and ZO are in Heisei. But they are usually put together with Showa due to them being from the pre-hiatus era, and also being in the era before Ishinomori sensei's demise.

Kamen Rider was the effort of Ishinomori Shoutaro and the Toei Company in 1971, which is still on going, as you can clearly see in the video. Early Kamen Riders "usually" are stories about a young man, who has somehow turned into a cyborg by an evil organization but decided to protect humanity from said evil organization. Although every Kamen Rider series are their own standalone stories. Showa Kamen Riders are also usually more connected (as in sharing the same timeline) than newer Kamen Riders. The Kamen Rider Series can be divided into 3 eras, same as Japan's history: Showa Era which included Kamen Rider 1 (1971) til Kamen Rider Black RX (1988), Heisei Era which included Kamen Rider Kuuga (2000) til Kamen Rider Zi-O (2019) and the Reiwa Era which introduces Kamen Rider Zero-One (2020) and onwards, currently the latest series is Kamen Rider Gotchard, which is close to ending.
On the other hand, Super Sentai, also the effort of Ishinomori after Toei wants a team of Kamen Riders in order to sell more toys. The first series is Himitsu Sentai Goranger, aired in 1975, 5 years later than the original Kamen Rider. The Super Sentai series, generally aim at kids, so there were more toys and generally lighter tone in their designs and stories. The series is still going on today, the current airing season is Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. Like its older cousin Kamen Rider, every Super Sentai seasons are standalone stories, generally about a group of young adults/teenagers banding together to defeat an evil organization (no cybernetic enhancement received from said organizations tho) and protect humanity.
On the other, other hand, Power Rangers are the brain child of Haim Saban after his business trip to Japan, bringing the Super Sentai Series to the West, he got the license to distribute and adapt the latest Super Sentai season at the time, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger (1991). He then work with Fox Kids to help fund and distribute the show. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was born in 1992 and became a hit in the West, so much so that Toei has to film new footage for the show. Later, Saban follow the Sentai formula and switch up the cast every season but still try to connect every seasons together. The story of Power Rangers are even more aim at kids, most of the time having a group of "teenager with attitude" who then become the Power Rangers, protector of humanity.

Haven't read all the comments, so sorry if this has been addressed but its an important feature for this show that isn't exactly explained - every season is a new story (different characters/powers/enemies/ect), and that Kamen Rider ALWAYS either receives their power from the enemy faction or draws from the same source as the villains.

@@favizy that's cool, also i don't mind which Kamen Rider series you're planning to watch
If you don't mind my late ass stealing a comment that I myself has left on another channel when they did their own "All Rider Op Reactions"; here's the most summed up I can give you a 50 year strong story; and then add more specific answers to your specific questions:
--------
The story of Kamen Rider as a franchise is quite interesting. If you don't mind me writing a Wikipedia's page long comment:
Following the success of Godzilla, Japan saw a boon in the entertainment industry with the monster movie genre. Tsuburaya struck gold with the direct to TV series Ultra Q; which later introduced the story of an alien made of light, that helped humans fight against other aliens. That of course was Ultraman, and it absolutely shook Japan. It was impossibly big and successful on its first years.
Rival networks scrambled to do something that could compete against it. It's when Toei hires Shotaro Ishinomori to write down something that could surpass it. There wasn't anyone better fit to. Ishinomori was already a living legend; with thousands of stories and characters under his belt, someone that could only be compared to Stan Lee. Ishinomori stood shoulder to shoulder with Osamu Tezuka and was considered a god of manga (sometimes even being credited as the inventor of Shoujo as a genre).
As any kid that grew up during WW2, Ishinomori wanted to write tragic and cynical heroes that were disenfranchised about the government, and hated n4z1s. Not unlike Captain America and Hydra, there was also a theme about playing god and the effort of creating super soldiers.
His first drafts (now historical documents) were about Cross of Fire, a hero that carried the burden of having the same origin as the villain, and Skullman, a hero that looked villanous and was very violent. Both of those ideas fell through during development because they wouldn't be super child friendly, but those themes still stuck in the final product. After a while, the theme of bugs was chosen because it was equal parts disturbing yet still friendly.
Kamen Riders were all created to be evil, by companies lead by n4z1 and fascists, and that manage to get away with crime because they were infiltrated in the goverment. However, they aren't evil because for a reason or another, they see the light, and they cry because they have no choice other than kill their peers in order to save civilians. There's some kind of "your circumstances don't matter, you always have to choice to NOT be evil"
While Ishinomori was alive, all Riders had this much in common. They were enhanced humans that fought their "parent" organizations because they were sullied with evil. Some seasons had shorter runs than others because censors thought they were too much, and it wasn't always profitable, but the mark that Kamen Rider left in society was undescribable, and I dare say that just about anything popular out of Japan has referenced it at least once. (Naruto has Lee and Guy, Bleach has Mashiro, One Piece has Sniper King, DBZ had Saiyaman, Pokémon had Team Skull, Digimon has Stingmon, etc, etc). They knew they had a giant IP, but it was kind of hard to market; hence why over the early years it had many hiatus and reboots. 'Skyrider' was originally a reboot. So were Black, ZO and Shin.
The way Ishinomori wrote was obvious. He stuck gold again many times. He wrote Gorenger and kickstarted Super Sentai in the exact same way. It's a spy thriller with heroes taking the side of the UN because of what the Cold War was becoming. JAKQ was also kickstarted by him and it's also about human modification, but it was too dark for the even younger demographic and was cut short. After that Sentai didn't have Ishinomori's touch anymore, but he had already given them the concept in a silver platter and it's also still going.
Eventually they managed to bring Kamen Rider back full force in the 2000's with Kuuga, and a bit dumbed down but more marketable.
While the themes of fighting n4z1s were starting to get a bit old for newer audiences, they made it newer. The government was still not to be trusted, and even without the threat of fascism, big corporations were still the bane of mankind and would step on civilians for profit. Eventually capitalism is exchanged for other things. The militairy, scientists, whatever. The lesson of questioning those in power always stuck; and it is amazing that it is one of the series in Japan with the most staying power given how anti-authoritarian it is. Part of the staying power however is that ideals and morals are more of what makes a Rider a Rider than bugs or cyborgs, so the show has managed to thrive in all sorts of themes and motifs.
The biggest change that stuck that was outside of Ishinomori's original plan was the addition of a rival/support Rider. When Fujioka, the actor that played the first Kamen Rider, broke his leg, they had to write in a substitute. This brought on a "it's possible to pass on the torch" feeling to a show that was supposed to be a cynical "one man against the storm" kind of story into something a bit more hopeful, and since then Riders have almost always had a foil or rival on his level.
--------
Early Kamen Rider seems to have a formula going down of "cyborg bugman fights crime syndicate that has monsters"; but you'll soon learn that Kamen Rider is more of a blank slate with guidelines that can fit any genre than it is a genre itself. Later on we have noir detectives, buddy cops, highschool shenanigans, medical dramas, body horror movies, fairy tales, and a lot of other things working in a Kamen Rider "framework" if you can call it that.
If a lot of the later openings feel like anime openings, that's pretty much right. A metric ton of anime song writers, bands and singers have performed for Kamen Rider; likewise, a lot of the plots are just live action anime (we have had the writters from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Puella Madoka Magica, for an example). A lot of seasons do have magic systems and super powers too.
You got the right idea for Kamen Rider W pronounced Double. The main characters Shotaro and Philip have the ability to combine their mental states to become one rider, each holding three separate abilities they can combine.
these are probably my favorite toku openings of all time honestly.. so glad you finally got around to Kamen Rider..
Whats next?

For Kamen Rider Amazon, the word plays an important part of the show since the main rider’s name is Amazon. The reason why he’s called Amazon is because his name was originally Daisuke Yamamoto but he changed his name to Amazon because he was in a plane crash in the Amazon rainforest and was the only one surviving
Oh shiii that cool af in terms of the meaning not the plane crash
Trying to explain Kamen Rider overall is a bit hard because you can notice how the writing style changes between the Eras, which makes sense, its gaps of almost 20 years between eras, but to summarize
The first era, the Showa Era, the old as heck openings, most motifs are that the Riders were created artificially to do evil things, but they instead see the wrong on what was going on and fight against it
The Heisei era, which is divided in just Heisei and Neo-Heisei is a bit harder to explain, there are multiple riders, be it by magic, biology or technology made to turn into riders, and their stories also vary A LOT. There is a separation between Heisei and Neo Heisei due to the baseline becoming very "weird" after Kamen Rider Decade, with Decade being a celebratory season that marks the 10 years of Heisei riders (thus Decade), after him the Rider stories go crazy, design wise and world wise.
After that there is the Reiwa era, which I suppose it is like Neo Heisei, but with a bigger tech vibe, which makes sense, it began with 2020
Just to remind you that the Era names are reference to the Japanese emperor of said time.
Either way, in my opinion, the biggest difference between Super Sentai and Kamen Rider (and ig Power Rangers to that extent) is that Kamen Rider focus to build the main character story, who they are, what they want to become and put to the test if thats what they really wanna be. Kamen Rider has a lot of characters but they aren't necesarily a group, they all work individually that when needed come together because they need to beat a stronger foe, yet they still might hate each other or even kill each other. Which in my opinion is why I like it a lot more than Power Rangers, it feels like they treat stuff more seriously, and it is super common to seeing people die, different from when you see a random monster in Super Sentai or Power Ranger that is just jumping around to their victim, in Kamen Rider you are dead dead.
Ultimatly, seeing how they are willing to sacrifice themselves and push forward is the big charm of the series, to prove that there might be a evil mf who literally killed your entire family just to try and prove a point that the world is evil, yet they stand their ground to prove that people are good, and the world they live in is worth fighting.
A lot of the time the endings are not happy, they are sad and there are times that they dont even make it, but their efforts are never in vain, which is something I think Power Rangers change a lot on their histories to always "good win, evil lose" which makes it feel boring and kinda treating the audience as dumb. Which you can also see in specials that have crossovers or Anniversary movies, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider respect a lot their franchises and characters, to the point that sometimes even the old actors come back 20 years later to reprise their roles in a special for their series, which is honestly amazing
Thanks for taking time out to write all that
For the short exploration
In the first era Kamen rider = Kamen mean Masked in Japanese and when mix with riders is mean a riders (whatever he ride but mostly is motorcycle) who wear a masked. Mostly kamenrider was a solo player😂 nothing like a sentai or power ranger they always fight together with team.
Hope this will get you understand more about kamenrider 😊❤
Thanks for the detail
@@favizy Sentai = Team of 3 or more and all but 1 have a big robot may or may not have a transport
Power Rangers = sentai adapted to English story may or may not be similar to the sentai and may not even match the tone
Kamen Rider = more individualistic Riders may work together but are rarely a team and often have their own goals and sometimes the villains are other riders. Rarely have a large robot, will at some time have a motorcycle.
Metal Heroes = less well known set of series (Beatleborgs, VR tropers were adaptions of these types of series) something of a middle ground between the 2 and Kamen Rider has since absorbed a lot of their identity. more bulky armored suits normaly Tech based. Has both Solo and team focused series rarely have giant combining robots but the Hero may be a robot
Super Sentai and Kamen Rider do cross over a bit most notably was Kamen Rider × Super Sentai × Space Sheriff: Super Hero Taisen Z
a movie that had armies of Riders , sentai teams and metal heroes.

Overall Kamen Rider have a darker story than Sentai and PR, it does have a lot of lighter season but still have a lot of drama in them
It also have every single Rider having the same origin of power as their villain which is why a lot of time the villain or antagonist is another Kamen rider
it even have some adult only season and movie like for example Kamen Rider Shin 1992, Kamen Rider ZO (which is the two slow one you skip at 57:00), Kamen Rider Amazon 2016, Kamen Rider Black Sun and finally Shin Kamen Rider 2023
Ahh makes sense
Kamen rider w is the only one that was turn into a anime, that's why

@@favizyyes its also a sequel sort of
So, Kamen Rider is essentially the grandpa of henshin heroes ( think like power rangers and that type of show ). Super Sentai is the japanese source material of power rangers. Some Power Rangers seasons are nearly 1:1 with the Sentai versions, most are really different, but generally reuse the suits and megazord fights. Sentai was originally going to be a show with 5 Kamen Riders, but with Kamen Rider X, Amazon, and Stronger failing to meet expectations, ( X did below average due to competition, Amazon was too violent and complaints from parents cancelled the series, and due to the oil crisis of the time, Stronger needed to be a HUGE hit to continue the franchise, which it wasn’t ), they had to try something different, and so Super Sentai began.
Kamen Rider was originally intended as more of a horror-oriented superhero series, and so the series throughout the years tend to be darker than Super Sentai. There are even some specifically adult-focused seasons for people who wanted darker Kamen Rider projects than even the darkest regular Kamen Rider seasons. Generally Kamen Riders are cyborgs, but certain ones are biological mutations or even have mythical artifacts bestowed to them.
The Showa seasons ( 1971 - 1994 ) generally are a bit cheesier than later seasons, but are really charming. Even though they’re intended for kids, they’re usually really graphic at times and have a mysterious feel. Usually the Rider of the season is created by an evil group and tries to fight them after getting his powers.
Heisei Phase 1 ( 2000 - 2009 ) was a return for Rider, and generally has very adult themes, with some of the most mature seasons of the franchise like Kuuga and Faiz. Most of the time they’d have an adult tone, and were way less cheesy than the early Showa seasons, more similar to the tone of Kamen Rider Black and Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue.
Heisei Phase 2 ( 2009 - 2019 ) was a lot more comedic than Phase 1, partially because of the success of Kamen Rider Den-O, the eighth Phase 1 Heisei season. Den-O had enough success to get 8 movies, so the Heisei Phase 2 seasons would capitalize on it with similar tropes like fantasy creature sidekicks and bizarre editing ( there is seriously a season in Kamen Rider Drive that is edited like a deep fried meme from 2017 ). Also the Rider themes were a lot more out there, like a space/highschool drama season in Fourze and a fruit ninja-based season in Gaim.
Reiwa ( 2019 - Ongoing ) is the modern era of Kamen Rider, starting with Zero-One. It’s seeming like an even more mixed era than Phase 2 Heisei, with seriously mature seasons and also way more silly seasons. The new season is Gavv, starting this September.
Sorry that this is late. If you’re interested in starting Rider, I have a Google doc with all of the main shows and movies. If you want synopses on the seasons, so you can see which is the best fit for you, I’ve seen my fair share and can probably help! So far I’ve watched every season and movie from 1971 - 2002, as well as Kamen Rider: The First, Kamen Rider: The Next, Den-O, Decade, Drive, Amazons Season 1, Black Sun, and Shin Kamen Rider 2023. I’m partway through Kamen Rider W/Double and Kiva, as well.
Ill keep it short, showa era are typically a man that gets changed into a cyborg by an evil organization or other riders, and fights the evil organization cause they killed their family or someone close to them.
Then from Kuuga on (heisei and Reiwa) each season has its own theme with the use of different themed belts, every sesson is standalone so you choose from there, kuuga uses an ancient belt to stop monster who play game of killing humans, but you also have Decade who traveles to other rider worlds, W who's two detectives that transfom into a single rider and solve crimes, there's also seasons based on Magic, fruit samurai, cars, ghosts, videogames etc, the current season Gotchard is about Alchemy, obviously, a lot happens each season beyond the basic premise, i personally recommend starting with Kamen Rider Wizard, or you can just pick pne and give it a try, if you like it you just keep doing that
Quite short that lol
Yh I loved the visuals of the kamen rider wizard, looked super cool
The half and half desing of Kamen Rider W ist because they are 2 people, shotaro and Phillipe, who fuse to become one Kamen rider
Great guess from me
Toku Suits Are Best
Its prolly been explained in other comments already but here's a basic explanations
Kamen Rider came first. Its split into 3 eras, Showa (starting with the first series), Heisei (starting with Kuuga) and Reiwa (starting with Zero-One,. Its also the current era). Each series is largely self contained, but they frequently cross over the seasons. Its called Kamen Rider because in Japanese, Kamen means Masked, so its just Masked Rider.
Super Sentai is made by the same person who made Kamen Rider, Shotaro Ishinomori. The initial idea was to have a team of Kamen Riders but it eventually became its own thing. Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are kind of like sister series, there's even multiple crossovers between them both. Fun fact btw, initially, there were no mechs in Super Sentai. But after Toei had success with a Japanese Spider-Man series where he had a mech, they decided to add mechs to Super Sentai and they ended up becoming a defining feature of Sentai.
Power Rangers is kind of an adaptation of Super Sentai. Haim Saban saw Super Sentai while on a business trip to Japan and brought the rights to adapt it, specifically getting the rights to the most recent series at the time, Kyoru Sentai Zyuranger. He ended up using the footage of the suit actors fighting from Super Sentai and combining it with new footage shot with American actors to create Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. From there, they continued adapting the following Super Sentai seasons into different seasons of Power Rangers, although they did skip some seasons and do some out of order
37:45 Kamen Rider W/Double has two users, so there are two people in one body (although the green one only contains the consciousness of one of its users, even though in their final form their bodies are completely united)
W
39:34 Not really, Fuuto PI is an adaptation of the sequel manga to KR W(Double), and would be recommended to have watched W prior to anime.
Kamen Rider Nigo (2) was onky a thing because the actor for Ichigo (1) broke his back.
After that the main actors are no longer allowed to do their own stunts on their bikes.
as an old fan of tokusatsu.. early heisei tokusatsu is the best time when you watch it at that time they airing like me😂
16:55 Kamen Rider Black is the only showa era series that got a direct sequel called Kamen Rider Black Rx and a 2022 spin-off called Blacksun. and before the original live action show there is also a kamen rider black mange. and some disclaimer the manga is completely different from the show as it has a lot of darker and mature themes. and there are chapters that can be outright disturbing.

At kamen rider double (aka) W , you were almost correct. Half is combat and half is ability. Two people transformed into one kamen rider. One is the combat skills and one is elemental abilities. For example : Cyclone,Joker (green and black) Joker(black) is hand to hand combat and Cyclone(green) gives wind ability. Another example is : Heat,Metal (red and white) Metal(white) is weapon fighting style and Heat(red) gives fire abilities. In the Heat,Metal form he usually use a steel staff to fight while at joker he use hand and uses a gun at trigger(marksman combat)

Check out metal heroes openings(early80s to mid 90s), it's shorter in terms of how many series but underated yet had some crossovers and movies, all in all, a great series genre of tokusatsu.
Will check it out! Thanks for recommending
@@favizy no problem
If you want to watch Fuuto PI you should first Watch Kamen Rider W (double) Because Fuuto PI is the sequel to KR W.
U reckon?
Check out a full English rap song Woke Up by a Japanese girl group XG. These girls were inspired by the OG western artists like Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, etc.

Saved this comment for later
Faiz(555) is one of the best bro
How so?
Because it's the most realistiv in the rider system they use to transform, they focus on thr characters more, there are literall consequences of using the rider system itself even the power-up us even dangerous for the main character to use,and it is the story that uses the using the power of evil to do good thing trope from the original
Fiaz and Build have some the best writing. Zero-1 almost got there to but the pandemic kinda hurt it would loved to see how it would went if they didnt have cut Zero-1 short
@@favizy Faiz and Build have VERY good writing and hold up just about any other Super Hero show from the east or west. Gaim and Den-o are close 2nd then Zero One and Ex-Aid and Wizard.
@@Elios0000 i agree with ur statement as a fellow Kamen Rider fan
Yeah, don't watch Saban's Masked Rider. Black RX is 1000 times better than it's American adaptation.
Omoshiroi
I do watch second adaptation Kamen Rider Dragon Knight better than Saban's Masked Rider, but I loved Ryuki as well.
good video! just bothered with the way you said it xD "Came in rider", anyways overall I enjoyed this!

Now to cap off the Toei Trinity with Metal Heroes or take a dive into the horror fantasy midnight toku show, Garo
Huh
Metal Heroes is the third superhero franchise from Toei, made in the 1980s. The series has armored warriors with shiny metal armor, hence the name, which a heavy lean into Sci-fi.
Garo is a show about a knight in an urban horror fantasy setting (though the anime spinoffs take place in other eras). A guy in a cool white leather coat and a talking demon skull ring goes around hunting monsters called Horrors , who feed on humans and possess people who have twisted souls such as murderers, thieves or people who crave power. The Knight defeats the Horrors using a magic gold armor themed after a wolf, but he can only stay transformed for 99 seconds. This rule allows the actors to do more out of suit fight choreography with occasional wire work.
The people behind the series were basically fed up doing children’s toy commercials and wanted to elevate Tokusatsu by doing a series geared towards adults with smoking, drinking, violence with blood and the very small bits of female nudity. If nothing else, viewing it would give your subs appreciation for Keita Amemiya and his design team, those wolf knight costumes are *chef’s kiss* practically moving art pieces.
I have recomendacion if you want to react kamen rider and record it you must react kamen rider drive, fourze, geats, build

nice, next "hensin and finisher" ,u can thank me later
We'll see
you need to put a sensor on the video or toei ( a company product the series) will copyright your video
Yh I know 😭 kinda lazy edited this tbh
WHY THE VIDEO SKIP OPENING ZIO
Where is 1993? It's too underrated. I guess? ZO > Green Ranger.
Next up I'd recommend either Sentai Henshin and Roll Call OR Kamen Rider Henshin and finishers.
Original Kamen Rider Hongo Takeshi was kidnapped and remodeled into a grasshopper mutant cyborg thing. He escaped before they could brainwash him. The basic pattern since then has been that the RIders powers are usually tied to the monsters in some way. (Except for Hibiki, in that they sort of do the One Punch Man workout)
Riders often work alone. Sentai are always stronger as a team. Power Rangers usually adds in Americanized storytelling. For instance Zyuranger is about ancient dinosaur warriors waking up to fight the witch. MMPR (the US adaptation) is "Teenagers with attitude" in a high school. Rita Repulsa is based on Bandora but Lord Zedd is a complete original.
There's a lot more but I don't know where to start.
Btw Gaim is gold standard for Kamen Rider writing.
Ama sabe this comment for next week
Next reaction Ultraman!
(Ultraman 01 - Ultraman arc)
Will do
@@favizy thanks!
Please do kamem rider henshin transformation please🙏
