The video was released to the public a year later in 2016; hence, the confusion about the age. But at any rate, what we are hearing is nothing short of phenomenal and extraordinary!

Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records. Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive. Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has this magical vocal power that draws you into this other dimension. She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. She arranges most all her music, as she has been doing since she began performing over the past ten plus years.
This session seems to have been done a year after she won NGT and released a year later, making her 9 here as many have and will state. I must say, regardless of age, there are few singers that can even attempt to sing her arrangement of this classic. Really talented singers (Nina Simone, Bette Midler, Jay Hawkins, CCR, etc.) have sung this song, but none like this. Glad you reacted to it.
Your reaction to her is why she won Norway’s Got Talent at 8 years old with 46% of the vote in the finals out of 10 acts, she started blowing them away when she was 7 when she auditioned, and when she did her a cappella rendition of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” to get into the semifinals, the judges were in awe. It’s hard to categorize a prodigy of this caliber, but this is a one in a generation talent, we can only appreciate her for what she is!

A girl, that studies music at the academies of Oslo and then Los Angeles, since the age of FOUR (she insisted very strongly), is a person that is driven. She herself says, "I can´t live without music, it´s like air for me". I heard her say that muliple times in different videos. I doubt, that she slept, and sleeps very much. Six days a week vocal training, singing 6 hours a day, helping raising her little sister Juliette, designing with grandma her stage clothes and than sewing them herself, practicing piano and guitar and going to normal school in Oslo (in LA its a combined school/academy) doing homework. Beside that, perform at charity-concerts. The biggest was in March 23rd 2017 in Seoul in front of 40,000+ people. There are videos there. She gathered some dollars through the concerts, the very realistic estimat is 21million USD.
One small correction: the 2017 Seoul concert was on 2017-04-23, not 2017-03-23. (And I have my doubts about the "provenance" of the 40,000 figure… but that's a whole 'nother can of worms. You wouldn't happen to have an actual source for that, would you?)
Angelina has set the bar extremely high for the most accomplished child vocalist of all time. Before her 14th birthday, she had covered more than 130 songs, from around 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres. Great job. Throwing up ones hands just enjoying her artistry is about the only way to go..as explaining her is pretty much impossible. And actually, Angelina was 9yo here! And yes, Bette Midler's is the famous cover many know but she was not the original. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. Welcome to this unreal cover, Pappy and thanks for the beautiful reaction, this interpretation is important to understand the uniqueness of Angelina's work because shows how she, from a very young age, manages to elaborate in a splendid way her incredible passion and understanding for music, in particular for this type of mythical songs. This is such a phenomenal performance and it impossible to match what you see with what you hear. But though hard to understand it is indeed easy to enjoy. At any time Angelina is so far ahead of the curve that she is leaving a flat line behind her. She pours her heart and soul into her performances flooding us with the emotion she puts in. The candle she held up at the beginning is the image of Screaming Jay Hawkins who wrote and performed this in his "shock rock" way 1956. It's #313 of Rolling Stones greatest songs list. Angelina was paying homage to his original version but hers is way better! This is Angelina's arrangement as is almost all of her songs since age 8. Prodigy and musical genius. Her Grandma Mery Zamani is a well respected writer, poet and painter and is considered a prodigy herself. So AJ gets her talent naturally. It would have had to be before this since it is clearly not one video take. If you listen to subsequent performances she gave, you'll hear this exact backing track being used. Its quite conceivable that the preparation for this began when she was 8, but there's nothing authoritative out there. The dating of 9y 2mo comes from the emergence of a still from the video in March 2015. Why was the video delayed by a year? Speculation is that was either due to contract restrictions or an extended time to work on the post production.

I had heard that same backing track so I was guessing that they wisely did a recording of it without her voice for other uses. I will edit my comments now around her age to compensate for that.
@@pa1189j According to her mother (newspaper interview) this was to finish Angelinas very productive 8th year and was recorded "close to Angelilnas 9th birthday." Per Heimly (Norwegian "Celebrety Photographer") agreed to direct the filming. When the product was finalised, her mother delayed over a year with publishing it because of growing concern since Angelinas otherwise excellent school work had begun to stagnate due to fatigue. The reason stills from the session started to appear was Per Heimly who used them in his own portfolio.

My hunch is that the music stem was laid down first and AJ added her part from the isolation booth. The video is a sum of several takes of all them reacting to playback. She did this at age nine. At age 7 she auditioned to Norway's Got Talent with "Gloomy Sunday" by Billy Holiday. There are 4 songs involved with her NGT journey and she WON just after turning 8. Look for the versions with English subtitles.
AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent. Now in this year of 2022 she stands at 6 foot tall and still in her mid teens. She still performs publically barefoot. And I see that you know the backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran.

Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records.
Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive.
Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has this magical vocal power that draws you into this other dimension.
She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. She arranges most all her music, as she has been doing since she began performing over the past ten plus years.

I must say, regardless of age, there are few singers that can even attempt to sing her arrangement of this classic. Really talented singers (Nina Simone, Bette Midler, Jay Hawkins, CCR, etc.) have sung this song, but none like this.

Your reaction to her is why she won Norway’s Got Talent at 8 years old with 46% of the vote in the finals out of 10 acts, she started blowing them away when she was 7 when she auditioned, and when she did her a cappella rendition of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” to get into the semifinals, the judges were in awe. It’s hard to categorize a prodigy of this caliber, but this is a one in a generation talent, we can only appreciate her for what she is!

A girl, that studies music at the academies of Oslo and then Los Angeles, since the age of FOUR (she insisted very strongly), is a person that is driven. She herself says, "I can´t live without music, it´s like air for me". I heard her say that muliple times in different videos. I doubt, that she slept, and sleeps very much. Six days a week vocal training, singing 6 hours a day, helping raising her little sister Juliette, designing with grandma her stage clothes and than sewing them herself, practicing piano and guitar and going to normal school in Oslo (in LA its a combined school/academy) doing homework. Beside that, perform at charity-concerts. The biggest was in March 23rd 2017 in Seoul in front of 40,000+ people. There are videos there. She gathered some dollars through the concerts, the very realistic estimat is 21million USD.
One small correction: the 2017 Seoul concert was on 2017-04-23, not 2017-03-23. (And I have my doubts about the "provenance" of the 40,000 figure… but that's a whole 'nother can of worms. You wouldn't happen to have an actual source for that, would you?)

Angelina has set the bar extremely high for the most accomplished child vocalist of all time. Before her 14th birthday, she had covered more than 130 songs, from around 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres. I would recommend listening to any one of those covers and any of her 5 original songs. Also, take into account she created her own arrangement for every cover song. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based after listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. Great job. Throwing up ones hands just enjoying her artistry is about the only way to go..as explaining her is pretty much impossible. And actually, Angelina was 9yo here! And yes, Bette Midler's is the famous cover many know but she was not the original. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Welcome to this unreal cover, Pappy and thanks for the beautiful reaction, this interpretation is important to understand the uniqueness of Angelina's work because shows how she, from a very young age, manages to elaborate in a splendid way her incredible passion and understanding for music, in particular for this type of mythical songs. She is surely the only little girl (9 year in reality) who has the courage and the ability to take a Screaming' Jay song, so imbued of his power, and rearrange it according to her sensibility and musical vision. This is such a phenomenal performance and it impossible to match what you see with what you hear. But though hard to understand it is indeed easy to enjoy. At any time Angelina is so far ahead of the curve that she is leaving a flat line behind her. She pours her heart and soul into her performances flooding us with the emotion she puts in. She was inspired by Screaming Jay Hawkins version: the guy who was on the candle she showed at the beginning.

If you like a good horn section, you might want to react to her live performance of "Feeling Good" on _The Stream Gir Tilbake_ (a charity-related TV special) when she was 10, almost 11. It's on her Official channel (same place this one came from). I've said it before, I'll say it again: I'm not sure the song can be sung any better (unless she were to sing it again).

WOW Great reaction Pappy!!! Yep, just accept it and enjoy it. She is 9 yrs and 2 mos old but the video wasn't uploaded until 2016. The candle she held up at the beginning is the image of Screaming Jay Hawkins who wrote and performed this in his "shock rock" way 1956. It's #313 of Rolling Stones greatest songs list. Angelina was paying homage to his original version but hers is way better! This is Angelina's arrangement as is almost all of her songs since age 8. Prodigy and musical genius. Her Grandma Mery Zamani is a well respected writer, poet and painter and is considered a prodigy herself. So AJ gets her talent naturally.

@@BarrySowder What we see visually was probably recorded at the age of 9y 2mo, but its not clear when the audio was finalized. It would have had to be before this since it is clearly not one video take. If you listen to subsequent performances she gave, you'll hear this exact backing track being used. Its quite conceivable that the preparation for this began when she was 8, but there's nothing authoritative out there. The dating of 9y 2mo comes from the emergence of a still from the video in March 2015. Why was the video delayed by a year? Speculation is that was either due to contract restrictions or an extended time to work on the post production.

@@pa1189j According to her mother (newspaper interview) this was to finish Angelinas very productive 8th year and was recorded "close to Angelilnas 9th birthday." Per Heimly (Norwegian "Celebrety Photographer") agreed to direct the filming. When the product was finalised, her mother delayed over a year with publishing it because of growing concern since Angelinas otherwise excellent school work had begun to stagnate due to fatigue. The reason stills from the session started to appear was Per Heimly who used them in his own portfolio.

My hunch is that the music stem was laid down first and AJ added her part from the isolation booth. The video is a sum of several takes of all them reacting to playback. It would be fascinating to get the facts straight from her or Per Heimly perhaps.

She did this at age nine. At age 7 she auditioned to Norway's Got Talent with "Gloomy Sunday" by Billy Holiday. There are 4 songs involved with her NGT journey and she WON just after turning 8. Look for the versions with English subtitles.
AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent. Now in this year of 2022 she stands at 6 foot tall and still in her mid teens. She still performs publically barefoot. And I see that you know the backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran.
This little lady from Norway is a gift from God. I will just leave it at that.
