After exploring the Bible’s perspective on slavery, how do you think understanding God’s heart for freedom and equality can shape our response to injustice today?
Understanding God’s heart for freedom & equality reminds us that all people are made in His image. It calls us to stand against injustice, love others boldly, and work for a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
We were all made in his image, "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Oooooo this one is specifically a tough one. On one hand, God said everyone is equal yes, but then we have Exodus 21:20-21 and Leviticus 25:44-46. So it’s very confusing. Some translations of Exodus 21:20-21 instead say if they heal from their wounds in 1-2 days.

[Comment's correction 1] People outside the common knowledge of the Christian Faith and it's history tend to confuse the slavery system allowed in the Old Testament with the slavery of the 1800's. However, doing a complete inspection of the protocols, laws, rights, and prohibitions of the slavery system, YHVH instaurated, the picture changes way too drastically: - Kidnapping people is forbidden. (Exodus 21:16) - Killing slaves is forbidden: (Exodus 21:20-21) - If a master makes a serious injury to a slave, the slave is free to go and the master is legally forced to compensate him for the injury: (Exodus 21:26-27) - Hebrew slaves (Who usually sold themselves willingly) were entitled to be free after six years of service: (Exodus 21:2) - Foreign slaves *had the right to quit in case their master was abusive:* (Deuteronomy 23:15-16) - Slaves are entitled to supplies and payment when they are freed: (Deuteronomy 15:12-14) These are some examples. If we combine these protocols and laws with the fact that the majority of slaves in ancient Israel sold themselves (willingly) to owners to pay debts, the system of servitude looks more like a primitive prototype of a laboral system compared to the classic slavery we are acostumed to see in other cultures and nations.
Now Exodus 21:20-21 says that you are allowed to beat slaves as long as they don’t die in 1-2 days, so this is tricky. Other translations say if they heal in 1-2 days from wounds.
As the history nerd here, I'd also like to address a verse in Exodus I've seen a lot of people use against Christianity recently and that's 21:7 which also touches on the issue of women. That verse reads: "[7] “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do." Sounds pretty awful, right? But historical and textual evidence say otherwise. In the ancient Near East, since there was no such thing as a safety net(be thankful to God for the benefits of modernity) there was a practice where poor families would often sell their daughters into slavery to be the wife of a more well-off man, in order to raise money to survive. This verse and the following verses when read into that context, are about protecting women who are forced into this situation. Verse 7 is saying that the woman has more rights than a mere slave, the owner can't just kick her out onto the streets to fend for herself. Verses 8-10 which I won't write here for the purpose of brevity, are all about how the master must not treat her as a lowly concubine, he must let her be returned to her family if she doesn't please him(as he chose her) and he is barred from selling her to foreign cultures(i.e. to non-Israelites.) If he takes another wife, he must still treat her as his wife(i.e. giving her food, clothes, shelter, and her rights as his wife.) If he bought her to be the wife of his son, he must treat her as his own daughter. And if he fails to meet these requirements, she must be set free.
@@soufwesthoustontx you call it terrible, but do you understand that every other option was truly awful? I feel like our modern society is treating slavery as more like propaganda than history people of every age, skin color and both genders were enslaved. Africans weren’t the only ones enslaved in America. Native Americans were slavers and slaves too and while seemingly controversial I believe it happened, and that is the English enslaved the Irish in America.

Thank you so much for this video❤. It’s really encouraging and enlightening . And me finding this video alone was a sign that God listens and hears our conversations and hasn’t abandoned me. Because when my friend brought this up yesterday and talked about this whole slavery thing I literally had nothing to say because I had never for once thought about it that way. And she said something about Christianity keeping me in a box and only portraying the good sides. Mind you she was a Christian before and has turned full Atheist, talking about how she is not longer in that box and stuff. I felt like I had failed as a friend. But I thank God for bringing this video to me and I’m going to send it over to her. So she can stop using that as a justification for her disproving statements and truly understand that God was never in support of that kind of slavery and strongly discouraged it in the new Testament. Hey Impact, you should do a video about how to control anger. I say this because I don't always know how to control my anger or emotions. I have been watching your videos for some time and they really have IMPACTED my life and I just wanna say thank you for that.
I actually had a debate about this with some friends last night, stemming off our debate about if lbgt is right. One of them kept saying that the bible is wrong about somethings and outdated. Another friend also was bringing up how the bible could be interpreted different ways, and i shouldn't take everything at face value, when I did point out that while certain passages and verses say things, you should not take it out of context. This whole thing made me really mad, as the first friend was also saying that I have no base for my belief in God. After we stopped our debate, i prayed for him and my other athiest friends. It is frustrating when people you are close to try to use your faith aginst you, but remeber, God will help you find your voice in battles like that. Never think for a second that God has abandoned you, because he hasn't. He is with you in fights that try to disprove Him.
You know I always see people hating on the bible, about how contradictory it is and how it’s outdated and stuff but for now I haven’t seen a single person hate on all other religions. Are we Christian’s the only targeted religion?
@@StormLeader0 The Christian faith gets the most heat because it’s the only belief system that picks at the conscience & it has a lot of prophecy that came true. The other religions do not. Like, for example, why did the politicians in DC remove the 10 Commandments from the capital building? Why do we have so many politicians and crazy political activists trying to remove the Bible from schools and why do they have this Insane agenda against Israel? Because evil hates the truth and anything surrounding the scriptures. Also, they hate the fact that so much prophecy surrounding Israel came true. If you think about it, the biggest proof that the God of Israel & His Son Yeshua is true are those who don’t believe(in other words, go out of their way to fight us). If God really is a “fairytale” then just leave us alone. The main reason why they go against us is because something in the Bible is picking at their brain and they want to do everything they can to remove that verse/scriptures. Again, this just shows that God‘s word has a lot of power when it comes to righteousness.
@@StormLeader0 One thing I found interesting is that even in other countries like Korea or China and others they will use Jesus' name in vain. I HAVE never heard them use Budah or Mohummad or any other God? Take care

I could be wrong about this so bear in mind: One point I've heard about the question: "why does God give provisions for slavery rather than just outright say it's condemned?". Is that because at that time, humanities hearts were so hardened, that this was the only way we would conform to Gods will in terms of slavery. While Respecting our free will.
God can't demand perfection overnight considering how stubborn the people were and how hardened their hearts were. So yeah. Ultimately, the best course of action was to set up rules to regulate slavery.
@@ratmgant In Matthew 19:8-9, Jesus says, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." This is obviously true for slavery, as well. All of the teachings of Christ and His disciples support this.

I always wondered why the Bible paint slavery in such a positive light I always thought slaves could refer to todays workers and masters could refer to todays bosses
I had a friend explain that the slaves they were taking about were servants and house workers. Most of them them worked willingly or had to pay off a dept and were commanded legally to be treated with respect
Slaves do not get paid, are not free to leave when they want, are not eligible for any benefits, have less protections under the law of the state, country, or nation. See the difference?

I really appreciate this video. I recently saw a NonStampCollector video on slavery in the Bible and both it and the comments were so disheartening. I wanted to hate so badly, but through Jesus, I knew I had to have the empathy to at least understand how they felt instead of judging. This video definitely answered a lot of uncomfortable questions for me. However, I both have a question and a theory. My question is how should a believer respond to the question of God's compassion between slaves and slavers to be considered Stockholm syndrome? My theory is, I believe the reason why he didn't outright outlaw slavery, is because as horrific as it was, it was a advantageous system that would take decades for humanity to unuse, so instead God infiltrated the system and inserted compassion and respect into the collective subconscious of slavers and slaves and with patience and tactical decision making, made slavery obsolete over time.
If he could do that, why didn't he just stop it? Like, why didn't he ever, not a single time, say slavery was wrong in the entire Bible? Why did he never condemn it?
Slavery isn't a chapter in human history. It has been with us forever and still exists. Saying that slavery is a chapter in history is like saying war or prostitution are chapters in history.

Hey just wanted to address that the word in 1 Timothy 1:10 that is translated as “Enslavers” was translated from the Ancient Greek word “ἀνδραποδισταῖς” can mean both kidnappers and slave traders. So Paul might be condemning those who kidnap people and sell them as slaves rather than slave owners. And most scholars today think Paul didn’t write 1. Timothy because they differ a lot in vocabulary and style from the letters we know Paul probably wrote. And in some other Bible translations, this word is translated as “Menstealers” or “Kidnappers”
Lol trying everything to make Paul agree with slavery how do you think people become slaves back then.... Yea by kidnapping them or being a slave trader so if Paul is condemning the act that leads to slavery don't you think he doesn't want slavery at all you could not be a slave without being kidnapped And you are a liar too cus when it comes to the one who wrote the book It is said that the vocabulary and the style of writing is as the same with Paul and even Paul said it himself Timothy 1:1

I know That God allowed Slavery for a time in the Old Testament, but it was removed in the New Testament, It didn't mean it was wrong for that time, but in the way the Egyptians used it was wrong, but God allowed it and free His people from it, and instead of cruelty He wanted Compassion and love for people that were Masters and boldservants. Just like God abolished Slavery in New testament and doesn't want us to be treated unfairly, The same is with Sin, God does not want us to be a Slave to it, it can feel good at first but it will hurts us, And God does not want that. Instead, He wants us to be free from Sin and from anyone who wants to do us harm and Awful evil decisions to do to us. @nickbrasing8786 Hi Nick, thanks for your question! While the New Testament doesn’t explicitly state 'God abolished slavery,' it provides principles that lead to the end of slavery as a moral and societal norm. For example, Paul’s letter to Philemon encourages Philemon to treat his runaway servant, Onesimus, 'no longer as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved' (Philemon 1:16). This reflects a revolutionary view of equality and mutual respect that undermines the institution of slavery. Additionally, Galatians 3:28 says, 'There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.' This verse highlights that in Christ, all people are equal, emphasizing unity and dignity for everyone, regardless of social status. Over time, these teachings inspired many Christians to fight against slavery, recognizing that treating others as property contradicts the love and equality God commands. I hope this helps clarify my perspective. Thank you for engaging in such an important discussion! ❤️

Besides, the new Testament lays down the foundation on what will become the Abolition and completely negates this law, with even an Apostle writing a letter to free a slave.
Can someone explain Exodus 21:20-21? "When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money." It sounds like the Bible is permitting beating a slave half to death but as long as they don't actually die, it's justified because the slave is the property of the owner? Just makes me think how many beatings masters gave their slaves that were less severe but still abusive and nobody would have considered it wrong which doesn't sit right with me.
What you're saying it sounds like IS what it's saying. The Bible is _explicitly_ ok with owning slaves and beating them. There is simply no other interpretation.
Did "half to death" involve anything like what verse 26-27 said? If the spirit of the law was followed, there were more reasons to let the slave go free. 26. “If a man strikes the eye of his male or female servant, and destroys it, he shall let him go free for the sake of his eye. 27. And if he knocks out the tooth of his male or female servant, he shall let him go free for the sake of his tooth. Also the slave had the right to escape his master at any time according to Deuteronomy 23:15-16.
This is a very good topic to touch on, and actually a reason why I'm reading through the Old Testament right now. The laws were basically "You can do slavery, but you can't do it this way, or this way, or treat your slave this way, or this way. . ." and etc. Although owned as "property", an Israelite slave (different from their indentured servants?) was to be treated as if they were family, could not be abused or brutalized (you could use corporal punishment, but would be punished/ the slave would be compensated(?) if you maimed, crippled, or killed them in the process), and in the case of concubines(?), you could not abandon or refuse to care for them (among other things). Never mind the fact that kidnapping and/or selling another Israelite held the death penalty. In essence, while slavery was not outright banned, so many civic and moral laws were instituted by God that you wouldn't escape His judgment if you treated your slaves as anything less than human.
Maybe you haven't got to it in your readying yet, but there are different rules for non-Israelite slaves. Those people were slaves for life, also owned as property, passed down as an inheritance, and their children are automatically born into slavery too. Generation after generation. What you're talking about in your comment only applied to native Hebrews, who could not be actual slaves in Israel.
@@nickbrasing8786 I'd have to double check Exodus and the others, but I distinctly remember a passage in Leviticus(?) that explicitly states that a priest's slave that he buys from a foreign nation was to be allowed to partake in the priest's meal, (i.e. the meal that only immediate family were allowed to eat, so immediate that even a daughter that was married couldn't partake in). If a foreign slave is to be considered close enough to partake in something as holy as that, that would effectively make them as family, no? Again, I'd have to check the chapters again to further understand the rules and regulations. Nevertheless, as far as I do understand, these commandments were still revolutionary for their time. Even as God was giving these, he kept telling them to remember what He delivered them from in Egypt. Clearly He didn't want them repeating the Egyptian's form of slavery (and all of the cruelties that went with it), so He gave them limits to prevent that. I don't know why He didn't outright ban it, but that might have been a case of "Change will be more effective if I guide them this way". I just don't know, but it's a thought.
@@z-master4749 What you're thinking about are the rules that would allow a foreigner to be able to eat the Passover meal. He had to be circumcised. Nothing to do with slavery. The verses you're looking for are in Leviticus 25:44-46; "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly" As to the laws around slavery being "revolutionary for the time"? I hear this claim a lot, which is why you probably think that. But it turns out it simply isn't true. The laws in the Bible around slavery were pretty consistent with the laws existing in the surrounding nations at the time. Some better, some worse, but mostly consistent. Nothing "revolutionary" about them for sure. You just have to go and look.
Because those laws are now obsolete because the New Testament lays the foundation of a future of removal of slavery in the Kingdom of God, and 'slavery laws' are just a temporary stop gap.
After exploring the Bible’s perspective on slavery, how do you think understanding God’s heart for freedom and equality can shape our response to injustice today?

People outside the common knowledge of the Christian Faith and it's history tend to confuse the slavery system allowed in the Old Testament with the slavery of the 1800's. However, doing a complete inspection of the protocols, laws, rights, and prohibitions of the slavery system, YHVH instaurated, the picture changes way too drastically:
- Kidnapping people is forbidden. (Exodus 21:16)
- Killing slaves is forbidden: (Exodus 21:20-21)
- If a master makes a serious injury to a slave, the slave is free to go and the master is legally forced to compensate him for the injury: (Exodus 21:26-27)
- Hebrew slaves (Who usually sold themselves willingly) were entitled to be free after six years of service: (Exodus 21:2)
- Foreign slaves *had the right to quit in case their master was abusive:* (Deuteronomy 23:15-16)
- Slaves are entitled to supplies and payment when they are freed: (Deuteronomy 15:12-14)
These are some examples.

It's terrible regardless of how you try to dress it up.
@@soufwesthoustontx you call it terrible, but do you understand that every other option was truly awful? This level of generosity was unprecedented, and if you read honestly, you’ll notice a theme of God using Israel to revolutionize middle eastern society.
And it’s not not dressing it up, that’s just what the Bible says
@@just_a_strange_traveler That's your interpretation of what the Bible says and as I said it is terrible. People want to sugar coat things.
@@soufwesthoustontx if I were to ask what exactly you find so wrong, would you have an honest dialog with me, or would you storm off? Most dissenters shake their fists as they’re walking away, and that’s not productive for any kind of conversation.
Truthfully, as a human with a conscience, as a descendant of slaves, I agree that slavery is horrible, but I don’t see how you can use it to accuse God of injustice. Everything I’ve learned in the Bible and life in general points to God’s goodness. Would you be willing to talk about it?
@@soufwesthoustontx You do realize that when you read verses as they are with no context, you can make whatever you want of it? That's why CONTEXT is important. If I were to hand you a book and tell you yo start reading in the middle of it opposed from the beginning, you would not understand what's happening.
Yes they were called Indentured servants which was just another form of slavery, but without hard physical labor, and harsh treatment

Take care

I could be wrong about this so bear in mind:
One point I've heard about the question: "why does God give provisions for slavery rather than just outright say it's condemned?". Is that because at that time, humanities hearts were so hardened, that this was the only way we would conform to Gods will in terms of slavery.
While Respecting our free will.
God can't demand perfection overnight considering how stubborn the people were and how hardened their hearts were. So yeah. Ultimately, the best course of action was to set up rules to regulate slavery.
is there a passage to support that?
@@ratmgant In Matthew 19:8-9, Jesus says, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

Then yesterday I read 1 peter 2: 18-20 and wondered if the Bible condones slavery and here is your video answeing that specific question again. Having my specific christian questions answered shortly after has happened many times, but it still kinda freaks me out haha
That's God speaking through this video.❤
Dude. God knows your expressions
"One of the darkest chapters in human history," and yet it hasn't stopped. One huge issue that many people in the Western world ignore is that slavery is alive and well in the Middle East and in Africa. The chapter never ended.
Great explanation! You acknowledged things I didn't even consider. 🙌🏾 Thx for making videos like this
Glad it was helpful! We appreciate you!

Glad to see this being brought to light more. It’s used constantly to prove Christianity is bad, and I haven’t seen anyone prove that it’s actually a sin in the Bible. Amazing work as always.
Just because it isn't a sin in the Bible, doesn't mean that it isn't still a crime against humanity. @SilverLovesJesus

I always wondered why the Bible paint slavery in such a positive light
I always thought slaves could refer to todays workers and masters could refer to todays bosses
The second part is just the modern, Marxists interpretation of the workforce, which is wrong to the core.
This was a wonderful video. It was a blessing. Praise Jesus. Thank you for sharing this. Jesus loves you ❤️✝️

God did tell our ancestors "of yall disobey me, and defile my land, I will eveict you from my holy land and send you off into slavery".
“22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
- Colossians 3
We are all already slaves to sin. That is why we need Christ to free us.
I know it’s not the main point of the video but the servitude in Europe was not the same as chattle slavery. European countries participated in the slave trade and some used slavery in their colonies but in Europe itself slavery has been long gone.
You've really helped me man you really have

Hey impact! Could you make a video on how to handle disagreements in relationships? And also disagreements with our values as Christian’s? ✝️🙏
You should have included these 2 verses in the video:
1 Corinthians 7:21-23 " if you can gain your freedom, do so..... You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men."
Exodus 21:16 "He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death."

You should create a video about how dragons are involved in the Bible, similar to creatures like leviathans, and discuss what God thinks about these creatures from around the world.
I'm not saying this forcefully, but I truly love your channel! It's very inspiring, and I'm eager to know what God says about how people create things to deceive others' beliefs within that system.
Let us hope that one day we will be able to say it.
@@veryangryduckpl2122 If enough people accept Christ we can.
Well, immediately after they state that it still exists in several different forms. I was thinking the same thing until they followed up with that. :)
Or maybe they mean Slavery is a chapter in human history rather than the entire story of what humanity has been through.

What would you say about Leviticus 25:44-46?
@@stubbwinkley4015 you compare new and old testament again huh. these are different times. As you know slavery exist and Islam allows it by buying wives
@ it is says “you MAY have slaves from other nations”. It doesn’t mean it’s what god wants.
That is a good question though!
@@Hmmmm_this_is_funny_account But he very clearly says it’s ok to do. It’s not wrong. And the Bible never, EVER says slavery is wrong. Not once. If God was against it, wouldn’t it be weird if he not only said it was ok, but he also never even one time mentioned being against it?
@@stubbwinkley4015 put it this way, he gave permission, which to me is not promoting slavery. It goes back to the fact god gave free will. we technically have permission to do bad things because of god giving us free will. Does he promote us doing bad things with our free will? Absolutely not.
Hi Impact team.
I'm really grateful to God for your videos, they've helped explain a lot topics to me. Please can you do a video on whether or not women are allowed to preach and teach? Some people say they aren't and others say those verses are there because those particular women were making noise and need to be read in context, and I want to know if I'm doing the right thing preaching to my male friends as a woman.
I think there was also a tradition in the old testement that you were called to forgive debts every 7 years. And in the new testement i think Paul specifically calls people to educate your servants and bring them to the lord and free them.
No that was only the Israelites. Leviticus says you can buy slaves from foreign countries.
Yeah, I'm not very certain of it. @@Intergalactic-v5z
@@Intergalactic-v5z you are still to free slaves on the Jubilee. Foreign slaves are only allowed to be free on the Jubilee if they completed the 7 year servitude.

Yea by kidnapping them or being a slave trader so if Paul is condemning the act that leads to slavery don't you think he doesn't want slavery at all you could not be a slave without being kidnapped
And you are a liar too cus when it comes to the one who wrote the book
It is said that the vocabulary and the style of writing is as the same with Paul and even Paul said it himself
Timothy 1:1
@@BenXaviour-vr4mz Most slaves were kidnapped by a private person. They were abducted during war and somtimes during slaves raids. If an army abducts hundreds or thousands of people it is no longer kidnapping and allowed even in the Bible (compare with Deut 20).
@@BenXaviour-vr4mz "you could not be a slave without being kidnapped"
What on earth makes you think that? If that were true then no nation around Israel would have had any slaves either. Something I doubt you'd agree with. Kidnapping doesn't even crack the tops 3 ways to become slaves at the time. That's debt, war or simply being born into it.
We we're enslaved to sin and death but Jesus broke thos chains and set us free.

Hey, I love your channel, and I know you probably have a lot of requests, but I'd like to request a topic for a video. Does God love saved people more than unsaved people? This question has been troubling me lately, and I imagine that maybe others struggle with this dilemma also. Explain to me why Messianic Jews (Jews who are also Christians) are practicing two Sabbaths then, and are encouraging other Christians to just follow the Sunday Gathering of Saints.
This is the actual answer: "Yes".
Why so?
@@lyricthompson3191 Why does the Bible condone slavery? Is that the question?
I know That God allowed Slavery for a time in the Old Testament, but it was removed in the New Testament, It didn't mean it was wrong for that time, but in the way the Egyptians used it was wrong, but God allowed it and free His people from it, and instead of cruelty He wanted Compassion and love for people that were Masters and boldservants.
Just like God abolished Slavery in New testament and doesn't want us to be treated unfairly, The same is with Sin, God does not want us to be a Slave to it, it can feel good at first but it will hurts us, And God does not want that.
Instead,
He wants us to be free from Sin and from anyone who wants to do us harm and Awful evil decisions to do to us.

Where did God abolish slavery in the NT?
@nickbrasing8786
Hi Nick, thanks for your question!
May I have your opinions on this impact team?
Your voice is just condescending at worse.
You seem to ignore the verses after, saying that any more mistreatment, foreign or Jew, will force the master to free the slave WITH COMPENSATION.
Besides, the new Testament lays down the foundation on what will become the Abolition and completely negates this law, with even an Apostle writing a letter to free a slave.
Great video! Jesus is KING
Hello can you do one with how not to jealous for other am kinda struggling with that
Can someone explain Exodus 21:20-21?
"When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money."
It sounds like the Bible is permitting beating a slave half to death but as long as they don't actually die, it's justified because the slave is the property of the owner? Just makes me think how many beatings masters gave their slaves that were less severe but still abusive and nobody would have considered it wrong which doesn't sit right with me.
Ooooo yeah this is a tough one.
I joined your channel as a form of tithing despite your Mahomes nonsense. Sincerely, Michael from Broncos country. 😂
@@z-master4749 What you're thinking about are the rules that would allow a foreigner to be able to eat the Passover meal. He had to be circumcised. Nothing to do with slavery. The verses you're looking for are in Leviticus 25:44-46;
"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly"
As to the laws around slavery being "revolutionary for the time"? I hear this claim a lot, which is why you probably think that. But it turns out it simply isn't true. The laws in the Bible around slavery were pretty consistent with the laws existing in the surrounding nations at the time. Some better, some worse, but mostly consistent. Nothing "revolutionary" about them for sure. You just have to go and look.
@ I appreciate the tone in which you have responded. I have more to look into regarding this matter.

You correctly pointed out how God wants freedom for His people. However, I think you glossed over a lot of passages from the OT law.
Because those laws are now obsolete because the New Testament lays the foundation of a future of removal of slavery in the Kingdom of God, and 'slavery laws' are just a temporary stop gap.
