Absolutely enjoy the biography portion! Well done. Tanaka, along with Burke, are the only two destroyer commanders in the game that actually operated DD’s in combat at such an incredibly high tempo. Awesome video TA. I’m always looking forward to them, and this series is excellent.
Okhotnik the Murder Sausage...I like it. Yes, Tanaka was not held in NEARLY as high esteem by his peers as he was by his opponents. Many of his critics were not impressed by an Admiral who wanted to fight the war by THINKING, but expected the sort of "daring do" that was supposed to allow the Japanese to defeat an industrial power the size of the US. Likewise, his biggest victory, Tassafaronga, was later attributed to the bold flanking move by Captain Soto's destroyer division, and not to Tanaka choosing to place Soto in a position where he could act independently, and catch so many US cruisers unaware. Tanaka chose to put his flagship leading the TRAILING division, and many of his contemporaries found this very distasteful, if not somewhat cowardly. Great video...keep em coming!
First...lol! Love Angel's videos. Keep up the great work! I love the detail you put into these CC videos. The history is awesome, as is actually explaining the levels and why you would or would not pick each perk. Keep them coming!
@@tacticangel that would be awesome, even though i can imagine it takes a lot of time from when you start recording and untill the video is ready for us with upload editing etc, but they are really worth watching.
1) probably not wrong = you are right. 2)#sorry/ not sorry =hilarious 3) Tanaka= Invisibility + winning +$$$! Love this series, love the humor/wit. Only critique is when is the next one?!....
I have been trying to do a "big" video every Friday, and big here is really more a measurement of time commitment, so that would usually be a premium ship review, and right now I'm happy to do one of these in the weeks where I don't need to do that.
tacticangel JK! Quality takes time, and you have to make a living!! We( I mean the community, not me like a king!)patiently await the next installment! PS , is it done yet!!lol.
Great job as always! I think your balance on history and skill choices is pretty much how it should be, I like especially you looking in some more unusual or obscure possibilities. I’d like to see the AL commander inspirations incorporated, because there are some very good once like for this case, AL Ataga. Of course I fully understand that you want to keep your commander screen clean (warships with titties is just not a good context for everyone).
Thanks, Rev. I think you hit on one of the several reasons I don't include non-historic commanders in these videos, the others being that they seemed substantially unpopular among viewers, not everyone will have access to them (particularly if they are never sold again), and I don't actually have any of them, so I don't think I could honestly suggest them.
tacticangel valid points and totally fine for me. Now,will hope for some juicy German commander math and history. There is some interesting, some tragic stories to tell.
What can I say? This was really good. Excellent production values ( really liked the overlays, especially the text ) and very informative overall. Interesting for the experienced players while imparting a great of information about the setting up of IJN destroyers for the newer players as well. A great series to watch as an historical aside or just to get the most out of your build.
Thank you for your time and effort in making these videos! We often don't stop and think that these were real people with all the baggage that comes with it. truly very interesting and looking forward to the next!
I really appreciate these commander/history videos of yours. They really add a lot of depth to my enjoyment of this game. Knowing the story behind the men and ships makes me appreciate what they went through in service to their country. You do a phenomenal job with all your videos. Thank you so much chief
I plan on keeping this going. My guess is the next video will probably be a Russian, German, or French Cruiser commander, but it will be a couple of weeks probably.
Really enjoyed it. Please keep making the who series. More information on the commanders and some of their exploits would be welcome. If available what they received citations for. I know US commanders will have descriptions for their awards publicly available, and some of the write ups really show amazing feats.
Thank you. I think right now I'm trying to dial in exactly how much historic detail I want in each. I feel like I went a little overboard with Dewey, but you're probably right about this being perhaps painted a little too much with broad strokes.
Thanks, Marc! You know I appreciate your videos about the same topics, at least to the extent I understand them. Duolingo doesn't go into some of those more... unique compound words.
Very informative, these are the types of videos I want the most, you know this. But I'm not in agreement with your inspirations not showing Sims as a viable alternative. Yes, you make a strong case on how you should avoid being spotted *at all* in this line of ships. But you also make a strong case of the ships being immensely fragile. I'd adress both these issues by using Bey and Sims, so that I can have less detectability range and more hit points. Never underestimate Sims impact on destroyers.
That's true. There's sort of a self-fulfilling nature to my suggestions because the ships are frail and what I do tends to do make them more frail, so never getting spotted seems like the only way out. But, I could see dropping fragile threat and throwing on Simms and picking up 3000 HP. That will give you at least a little more time above the waves. In any case, I'm more likely to use Simms on US Dad's, where I really do want to get into knife fights, so I don't disagree.
Good stuff! I would love to see a video on an Azure lane commander but critique their fashion sense instead... in a clockwork orange kind of way that’s hard to explain haha.
Stefan Blackadder LoL,that’s what I thought too! My wife said I may have mis translated something. More likely abandon ship!! Or SOS. Good hunting, Commander!
Richard Doig I completed a survey from wows legends yesterday. They asked how I liked azur lane. Here’s what I said: “scantily dressed watery tarts showing off their poop decks and they’re big guns is out of place in a navy combat game with historical ships. If I want to see that I’ll go to pornhub.”
Stealthy DD attacks is the most challenging and enjoyable play styles on WoWS, in my opinion. And I tend to go all-out to that end for the DDs that lend themselves to it (mostly the Axis DDs). The challenge is the never get spotted, unless it’s on your terms. My suggestion is the always look at the opposing side’s DDs before the match starts, then watch the in game map to get an idea of where they might be spotted. Those are the ones that will surprise and spot you. Everything else you will spot long before they spot you, when you’re in the open and not in and amongst islands. Also watch the objectives that are being captured by the enemy without being spotted. Another way to remain stealthy is to avoid laying smoke or capturing objectives (unless there’s another ship on it), both will give away your presence.
tacticangel can you remember in one of early videos that I said you're teaching the mighty jingles approach this new series is even better but I fear you are digging yourself into a hole with the historical stuff I love it I really do it I really love it but legends well we have so many historical stuff that will be your make-believe stuff the next couple of years and you run out of historical content but I do really enjoy these videos for the captains your class keep up the good work stay safe my friend. See you in the open seas
I guess I don't quite catch your meaning. I think it will be a good length of time before I can get to all of the commanders, and there'd be nothing really "wrong" with doing all of the commanders.
tacticangel no not at all actually really good. I think a good and interesting and even educational video on the auto aim as tbull call it imultiple videos I look at it like snapshot from world of tanks and it does work. I get people all the time over islands and I only seen your icon for a brief moment at least educate some of the battleship players I shouldn't bring this up as I love playing cruisers but I know Autolock there for cruisers mostly but it is there and works for all ships and people should know at least some of these battleship players may actually hit something most of the battleship players I think you're older men in their 50s also well I don't think most of my friends on Xbox and play this game I'm in the late 40s, 50s I myself are in my 40s we are the guys that used to watch Discovery and the history Channel when they were good some videos like yours appeal to the more mature player so help them by making a video on this topic it is just hold the trigger wait wait till the little circle in the middle of your screen changes from green to read and fire immediately
I disagree with your selection of the legendary skill, I prefer "Give me speed" to "Unstoppable". The active effect of this skill gives you an extra boost to disengage enemies rushing you. Unstoppable is useful when you have been spotted to keep your boat steerable, but to be honest: if you have been spotted in an IJN destroyer, you have already made your first mistake. I most cases this ends with several opponents focusing and sinking you whether your steering gear/engine is working or not ;-)
To be fair, this was made several months before the change to Legendary skills. Give Me Speed is more competitive now, most noticeably if you have it leveled up further than your sea detectability. Running without Unstoppable is definitely leaning into the 'all or nothing' nature of spotting for IJN destroyers. Depending on how little you think you get out of it, I could see where a Legendary 3 or 4 Tanaka would potentially benefit more from speed.
I would like to see you do this with more commanders. Great video.
I'll keep them coming! There are several ships it looks like I will be reviewing, but hopefully I can make room for one or two during this update.

Love these commander storys
Thank you! I've finally got a small collection of them, and hopefully I can continue to make one every month or so.
@@tacticangel that would be awesome, even though i can imagine it takes a lot of time from when you start recording and untill the video is ready for us with upload editing etc, but they are really worth watching.
I love these bits! It brings a lot to the game & I also enjoy learning the history behind these outstanding warriors
Great vid !! I think your spot on with balance of history and best possible builds..
You truly are a awesome commander. How you explain the commander and his strength is remarkable. Thank you Sir.
Thank you, Manuel. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
