This is amazingly well done, learning this song now and your performance is very instructive on how it should be done. Do you have any tips on how to play octaves in your right hand for so long without pain? 2:03 to 2:40 is particularly stressful on my right arm, and it seems it doesn't bother you. Please help this ailing wannabe pianist play this incredible song. Thanks
Try loosening up your wrist joint. You would also want to use a slight bouncing motion. Hope that helps. I'd be happy to instruct you over Skype if you need further guidance. First lesson is free.
I have no idea what he does on his new CP300, but on the P120 I'm pretty sure he plays everything on either Grand Piano 1 Variation or Grand Piano 2, both with Hall 2 reverb (this is the preset maximum reverb). I would imagine it's a similar drill on his P155 as well.
When I just bought the P-155, I was a n00b and I left the reverb on Hall 2 WITHOUT changing the reverb depth. Without that, Hall 1, Hall 2, Room, whatever, makes almost no difference. I find a depth of 15 works nice for recording.
The timing on this one is difficult, especially with octaves and everything. I know since I'm practising it now. It also sucks that I have a crappy digital DGX-620, but the arrangement is still good. Also part "C" @ 02:03 is hard to play at full 115 bpm lol. I probably won't upload this until I've learned it fluently. You played it very good overall, but there's ofc some noticable stuff to improv, I think, like all of the timing/fluence errors. But you've also improvied since it was uploaded, right? :D
Yup, I slowed down a little for the passage at 2:03. But other than that, I played that entire passage perfectly in my opinion. And yes, I'm almost never 100% satisfied with my videos. This one in particular. I remember not liking several things about it when I uploaded it. But I rather have an imperfect version put out there than have a perfect imagery in my head that never gets out.
+mrdatTtttt Umm... Just because I haven't mastered it doesn't mean I'm not allowed to give constructive critisism. I now realize that Jeremy played the part at 02:03 good, and heck, I even said he played it very well overall in my original comment, so I don't see what's your problem. Plus I, who am learning it, could get something out of Jeremy's response. And besides, if I couldn't play it at all, I would still learn something, so I think your comment is pretty counter productive. And lastly, *maybe* it's good to go back and see what you've done previously to see if you've improved, since this is almost exactly 1 year ago...
***** The basic method is to record the audio via cable. From the piano's headphone jack to the computer's line-in jack. I use a slightly different method now with an audio interface, but the results should be close enough.
Excellent!!! A little slower than I'd prefer and a few (very slight) rhythmic slips, but excellent nonetheless. It's very difficult to find good performances of this piece on RUclips, so I can confidently say you rank among the very few with the requisite technical ability. I know this is o/t, but do you happen to know the keyboard settings that Kyle uses? The treble seems to have a unique punch that I can't seem to duplicate on my keyboard.
Thanks! I agree with both your criticism and praise. I got more to criticise myself apart from the slight rhythmic slips though. :P Have you tried changing the brilliance? For me, it makes a huge difference. Don't know if you can tell, but this is actually the first video where I'm using bright piano as compared to normal piano in all my other videos. He told me he does use a brilliance in between bright and normal. All this is for the P-155 though; not too sure about the P-120. Also, try adding a ton of reverb. My reverb setting is 15 out of the max 20 and the "venue" is hall 2. For recording that is. Hope that helps.
***** P-120 I generally put the brilliance SLIDER (YES THE P120 had a SLIDER for brilliance it was awesome I MISS IT), all the way up, or close to it. The reason why though, P-120 was a mellow, deeper sounding instrument, and the brightness really livened it up. The P-155 doesn't sound normal when you have the brightness all the way up :p
***** "The P-155 doesn't sound normal when you have the brightness all the way up" >> You're saying that after watching this video, or you tested before already? I like to play in between bright/normal, but for recording purposes, I keep it just bright, so all the way up. Wait till you're finally back for lessons! I'll let you compare 2 same files with just different brilliance. Bright is freaking good on recording.
Yow man great job! The only question I have is with the fast left hand part. Im trying to learn that but do you have any tips? Please help i subbes too:)
Yeah this is the part that I've had trouble with for the last few years. Anything on how to work on accuracy and consistency of hitting the arpeggios at that speed? I find I always slip up when I'm going back down each time.
skysthelimit112 One tip for you: It is not necessary to connect your fingers. I'm talking specifically for when your 3rd finger crosses over the thumb for C#.
For this video, just a stereo cable from the piano's headphone output to my computer. For my current videos, I connect 2 mono cables from the AUX output to my audio interface, which is hooked up to my computer via USB.
So gerd!!!!!!!
What's gerd? Good? Lol.
same piano than you,kyle. right?
fantastic
What the hell is gerd? haha I also have a version on this song, pretty much shitty tho, gotta admit
HELLO KYLE
Wow - great performance of a now quite legendary Landry arrangement :)
Yeah, it's his most popular video currently I believe! Thanks!

Awesome. I leaning this on synthesia cause I don't know how to read the scores.

Dude you're on fire🔥🔥 keep going on
Absolutely beautiful, congrats man!!
Thanks. :)
You, Kyle Landry, and Hypochondriacpiano have the right idea.
What idea? Heh.

I would LOVE if you would play 14th song from D. Gray Man. Your music is so frcking beautiful
I just had a listen - it's nice. Not sure if I'll ever get to recording it though.

+Jeremy Ng That's fair :)
***** Hey thanks for your support but no need to get aggressive here. :)

***** Hey now, who's really aggressive here? ;););)
Man. Everytime I hear this, I wanna try this Goddamn badass part at 2:03. But it kinda seems pretty hard ^^
But it looks just way too cool
I know right. Haha.
Antoine Vannavong I know it seems hard. But if you really the time and effort in, you will get the result you want. It's not as hard it looks
You played this so good! also what piano is this called? :)
Thanks. It's a Yamaha P-155. I don't own it anymore though.
what do you use to record ur videos? the sound is so nice
Via line-in.
thanks! is that an app or device? cause i record me on the piano with my mac and it sounds like crap haha

Yow man great job! The only question I have is with the fast left hand part. Im trying to learn that but do you have any tips? Please help i subbes too:)
If you're talking about LH arpeggios for the section at 2:03, then sorry, I don't really have tips for that.
+Jeremy Ng hey I got them!!! I can do them just as fast as kyle :D
Yeah this is the part that I've had trouble with for the last few years. Anything on how to work on accuracy and consistency of hitting the arpeggios at that speed? I find I always slip up when I'm going back down each time.

Can you please make a tutorial? also, what piano is that?
It's a Yamaha P-155.
Jeremy Ng
okay thanks and can you please .ake a tutorial
Sorry, I do not make tutorials at the moment.
Jeremy Ng aw okay. how long did it take you to learn?
I don't remember. Several days maybe.
Equally as good as kyles version. Well done!
Thank you!
Hey, nice performance of such a beautiful piece! I preformed the same one on my channel.
How long did it take for you to learn this?
I don't remember. 10 days maybe.
hello may i ask u what kind of audio interface u are using? :)
I don't think I was using any in this video.
Oh really 😅 Could u tell me how u record your videos then? :)
For this video, just a stereo cable from the piano's headphone output to my computer. For my current videos, I connect 2 mono cables from the AUX output to my audio interface, which is hooked up to my computer via USB.
Thank you! Btw I really enjoy ur videos keep the good work!
What keyboard are you using here?
Yamaha P155.

LOL I remember reading your comment about it sounding like a machine gun 👍
I know right. Couldn't help myself.
If you don't mind me asking, how much does Kyle charge for lessons?
