I have an issue someone here might be able to help with. I recently set up a grow room & ran a New 20 Amp Breaker with 20 Amp Plugs & 10 Gauge Wire just for running 2 1000 watt lights. The rest of the equipment ran on another Circuit, just some fans. About a month ago one of my 2 older Digital Ballasts died on me so I sent for a new one, a Vivosun 1000 watt Digital Ballast. When it came I hooked it up & it turned on right away with no issues, nice & quiet too. But when I left the room & came back into my living room my Computer (also on a different Circuit with a high quality Surge Protector) was making USB Noises like something was just unplugged from it & it wouldn't stop. I restarted it & my Mouse & keyboard would not work, so restarted again & tried to reset the Bios but still had no USB Function. So I switched back to my Old Ballast, than I had to tear my Computer apart & unplug the RAM, Video Card & pull the Battery out. Than I put it back together & it Posted (Thank God). I contacted the guy who sold it to me & he sent another one right away no questions. I also Sent for 2 Tripp Lite IsoBar Surge Protectors, one for my PC & one for the 1000 Watt AMP. So when the IsoBars & Ballast Replacement came I hooked them up (the AMP was 6 ft further away from the living Room now too) & once again it froze My USB Function on my PC, but this time it wasn't making any Noises & I was able to restart without completely tearing it down. This bothers me. The Circuit my PC is on has a New 20 Amp Breaker on it too & is separate from the Grow Room. Any thoughts on what is causing this or how to prevent it?

I live on Cape Cod I added a second ballast 600 watt to my thousand watt that I already split into two 500s and it blew out the entire neighborhoods cable and internet so they tell me I'm the worst offender of all Cape Cod I'm like this is impossible I just added one ballast that doesn't seem like it would do it to me. This tool of a cable guy decided to leave my house disconnected so what I do I walked up to the box open it up plugged it back in went back out of my business. They never came back they never called me to tell me that they wanted to rehook it up or anything. What a tool of a service technician. I did also rerun the cable from running right above where my ballast board were and into the garage and through the kitchen rather than into the living room right underneath the row room.. the two ballast that I use are both Solis Tek one of them the 1000 w is a 2012 the 600 watt is a 2015 ballast
Hey Everest! you never mention the fact that some ballasts will lock up/melt/freeze regular timers that small home growers use and so they require circuit breaker type timers. my question is though, is this still the case for digital ballasts or only magnetic?

I have a ballast with watts selector between 250w, 400w, 600w with a HPS of 600w both came as a package when I bought it. My question is can I select 250watts on the ballast to run this 600watts to save electric bill? I have a small grow tent and I don't really need 600watts at the moment but want to start off with 250w without buying a new 250w hps.
Hi, like the way you put your videos together. I grow using cobs as they are uber efficient (D.I.Y. cree cxb 3590's). I was wondering if you are going to get into these style of lights at any stage, as MH and HPS can't compete anymore in terms of efficiency. Thoughts?
paddy nofriends Lovely stuff. What did you order if you don't mind me asking? I am very happy with my COB's. I used to use MarsHydro until I discovered how nano moles per joule something like Cree's put out. I'll be evolving to quantum boards supplimented with far red and uva-b next build.
If you want to run them all at the same time then yes - if you want to run 10 in the day and 10 at night you can do it with just ten ballasts and a flip box.
+Jack Rackham Interestingly a good guy at Gavita got in touch and contested this, claiming that well-designed lamps can withstand turbo with no adverse degradation. I look forward to talking with him some more and hopefully he will share his test data - I will obviously give it a go here too.
+kevin C Not a dumb question at all Kevin! For my tomatoes I use an electric toothbrush and place it just near to the flowers (not on the flowers directly) and this creates sufficient movemen. Oscillating fans can help shift that pollen around too!

+Jonathan schadenfreude I've never tasted soil. A lot depends on the soil and the microbiology present. Choose a quality soil-based potting mix. Ideally buy a seedling, early veg and full strength mix if you're growing in containers. Soil based potting mixes can become depleted so have a think about supplementing phosphorus and potassium for heavy fruit in annuals, otherwise you should be good to go without too much additional ferts!
Everest Fernandez all one needs to reenergize their mediums that become depleted can use a organic compost like vermont compost companies compost plus! one helping(depending on pot size) to depleted soil and Whammo! gtg! easy peasey!

I know someone who used to be 'the guy' of a now failed ballast business, can't remember the name but it was popular and cheap yet efficient. He told me it wasn't possible to meet the guidelines with detached ballasts.. they did shut down what 10 years ago now but from his knowledge from the manufacturer, it wasn't possible, they would all put off a level of interference that was above par. But yes, good ole Tri-Polar Chad ruined it for all. I can't remember the dang name of the company, someone please tell me. I think the ballasts were purple... they were a non metal color, pretty sure purple. I'm about to find chads linkedin page, I know he has it listed as an old job still lol. Apparently Chad tried to out the company (for putting fake, Chinese regulation stickers on under-standard ballasts) at a convention and ended up getting WWF style hit with a folding chair, then was chased around the entire convention floor screaming "help, he's trying to kill Me! Help!"... I wish he got ahold of that AHole, guy is NUTS.

If I have 20 lights I need 20 ballast right? I can plug them into a power bar and directly into the wall? Wouldn't it short circuit??

If you use a 1000w lamp on 600w Mode will it have the same par as a Standard 600 W ballast and lamp ????
Jaybo 8970 no bc its color will be different. Most likely the 600 w lamp would have better spectrum and PAR.
