I would advise clean up and then have a beer... My wife wasn't pleased when she came back home to a hot mess and me being drunk...
hahaha
😂😂😂😂😂
Just used the Northern Brewer Kit and it was amazing. I had never done it before but we were able to do it no problem. In our video the hardest part was the waiting!
All the waiting. We like to say that homebrewing is the hobby of "Hurry up and wait!"
"If you can make mac and cheese from a box then you can make beer" Thank you Michael Dawson, that is my second favorite quote besides CP's "RDWHAHB" Chip Walton, if you are reading this, it needs to be on a Tshirt!
3 years plus ago i started watching this video to self learn about brewing , still watching it once in a while till this day and it's still taking me to school
I miss brewing TV so much, I'm watching this video. I've been all grain brewing for over a year, but I just need to hear Dawson's voice... I MISS YOU GUYS!!!
"Move the beers to a quiet dark spot." lol!
Gone are the days when brewing beer was an easy and relaxed activity full of fun
Excellent video. Simple and straight forward for a beginner like me. I will be referring back to this.
Pretty good video. I got my very first batch in the fermenter. I can't wait!
“Start high, finish tilted”. I got this!
Hiliarious. :P
Thank you for the video, I really liked it, I haven’t yet brewed my first batch and I’m still learning and this was a very valuable video for me to watch thank you again
Great video and fun to watch. Super informative and I like how you repeat the important tips.
But the best part.....was at 15:47 when you so totally enjoyed the finished product. I vicariously felt your feeling of accomplishment. Thanks for this!!
I enjoyed this video... I feel more confident. I just got the conical catalyst fermenter and I am trying my hand at the Block Party Amber. This will be my first time ever brewing beer and I am pretty excited about it.
Thanks Northern Brewer.
I like this guy. Good video and helpful.
Amazing, I love craft beer
Nice vid, but, I would like to add my two cents. You should take the temp of the wort, before pitching the yeast. If the wort is too warm, over 80 degrees, the fermentation will take off like crazy, and overflow into your air lock. Too cool, below about 70, and the fermentation will start very slowly, increasing the risk of contamination. Also, important, take a gravity reading when you think the brew is finished fermenting. Two days later, take another reading. If the gravity is unchanged, it is ready for bottling. This will eliminate the risk of exploding bottles.
I think you meant 2 weeks later
Mark DeWaal
No, I think he meant 2 days, and it makes sense. Rory wants to make sure malt fermentation has stopped to ensure all that will be fermenting in the bottle is the dextrose/sugar. IF the reading of the hydrometer is the same after two days, fermentation has definitely stopped.
Gabriel Avelar
Yes, that's what I meant.
Great tutorial with some useful tips. I also miss BrewingTV!
Nice job - clear instructions !
Thanks!
Very good video for begginers (me), cheers!!
When I started brewing, I just winged it, you know, using common sense. This vid is just full of logical common sense. After watching, I see I don't have to change anything I do.
Winning!
very inspiring!!!
That boil over made me anxious. I've only has two, in 22 years of homebrewing and that was two, too many. I can still see the stains on my propane cooker from the last boil over; about 15 years ago.
Thanks!
think I saw some Sierra Nevada Big Foot in the cabinet, delicious.
Great video but would be even better if you warn people about how much "fun" their first hot break can be and what to look out for.
The block light rays that tend to "skunk" beer better than green or clear bottles (think Heineken and/or Rolling Rock). It's also wise to store your beer out of direct sunlight regardless, but even indoor lights can after long-term exposure affect the taste of your beer.
thank you
great vid
started here nov 28, 2018. now i'm a couple grand in and growing. thank you. #p3brews
great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@NorthernBrewerTV It's cool that you guys respond to comments from a 9 year video
Ah, of course! Thanks for the answer.
Great video. Can you "rack" the beer into different carboys to clear it up (like you do wine)? I've made many gallons of wine but thinking about making some beer. Just asking.
When I rack my ale into my secondary fermenter I add 1/4 tsp of Knox unflavored gelatine dissolved in a 1/4 cup of scalding water (cooled of course). You should add it at the half way point to filling the carboy because the solution will be sticky and you don't want a clump of gelatine at the bottom of the carboy since that won't help clear the ale at all. That's enough gelatine to clear most of the proteins and suspended solids from 5 gallons of ale leaving enough active yeast to condition the ale. I've been doing this for decades and my ale is as clear as the commercial filtered varieties. Some books advise you to add the clarifying agent at bottling time; however, I've found that this works better since the sludge settles to the bottom of the carboy in a thick mass less likely to be picked up with a siphon.
Why does mine look like the end of the video after 3 days? I'm getting no foam or bubbles in air lock.
Excellent job your vid is so funny...LOL
so if i dont have a secondary fermentor do i add 1 week to the 1-2 weeks in step 16 of the first fermentation?
excellent video would you say using a regular burner is essential or can I use an electric burner?
Electric works, but takes way longer to boil. Gas is the way to go.
+Gabriel Avelar at home we have magnetic conduction and its way faster than your average gas burner
Would putting a hot kettle in ice water warp it at all?
How many gallons is the pot that you use in the video? Are you sure i can add just cold water to the chilled worth without boiling it first? Thanks
I believe this is a five-gallon pot for partial volume boil extract brewing. If you are concern about the quality of your water, you could boil and cool first or buy spring or drinking water to top off. Here in Saint Paul (where the video was shot and NB is based) our water is great shape as-is so we just topped off with tap water.
Now i need some mac and cheese!
do you really have to "sanitize" the dry yeast package?
Can someone explain something to me? I'm confused as to when to add the extract exactly. At first I thought you were supposed to bring the water to a boil after steeping the specialty grains and then remove it from the heat source (so the water isn't boiling anymore) and then pour and stir the extract in the hot (but not boiling) water until it dissolved, and then return it to the burner and heat it until it boils. I'm now second guessing myself watching this video again. Is that right or no? And if it is correct how long are you supposed to leave the water boiling before removing it from the heat source and adding the extract?
jnorman975 You dont boil the water when you steep. The water has to be between 150 and 170 degrees. You bring it to a rolling boil after you dissolve the extract
I added the hops without bringing the wort to boil.. does that affect the quality of the beer?
Are you saying never boiled the wort at all? Or just added the hops *before* it was officially boiling?
@@NorthernBrewerTV just added the hops before the wort was boiling
yeah their lids definitley don't snap now
Does fermenting sugar cause the beer ti carbonate in the bottles? What are the chances the beer bottles will explode?
as long you dont put more than half a teaspoon you will be ok , if you put more in it wont explode but your beer will be wild
Is anyone can help me with this? Why there are some ways of two phases fermentation? Just for dry-hopped?
Back in the day, people felt really strongly about racking to a secondar fermenter after primary fermentation to help the beer mellow out and condition off of the original yeast cake. More recently it seems there's been a change in opinion and many people just do the primary fermentation and maybe cold-crash the fermenter to help force yeast and hops out of suspension, then bottle or keg. There is no wrong way. Some people just like skipping the step, saving the time, or eliminating the chance of oxidation that comes with racking beer.
Is it possible to brew gluten free grain like millets would it taste good
Please make a beer over millets
What’s the song at the end? Or is it you playing?
That's our employee Chip Walton (me!) noodling around on the acoustic. Used to do a lot of the music for NB and Brewing TV videos.
About the only way to do that is to use co2. You can do it in a keg or in soda bottles, plenty of info here on youtube. PEACE
We don't suggest it. We suggest that beer be in the bottling bucket for as short a time as possible in general. Siphoning beer into a glass (or plastic) carboy is the best way to do a secondary fermentation.
First, very helpful video!
Second, the narrator sounds uncannily like Kirk from Gilmore Girls. Does anyone else notice that?
If you don't use that specific book to tilt your carboy it's bad luck;)
Why are brown bottles the best choice?
The brown blocks more light, which is an enemy to beer.
Can this be done outside on a gas grill?
Anything just to heat that baby up
Do you add both malts? Mine has 2 is it for 2 batchs or 1?
I'm a bit confused by the question. Two malts as in two differen malt syrups/extracts? Or two malts as in one liquid malt and one dry malt? Definitley want to help, just might need more information to assist.
@@NorthernBrewerTV i have powered malt and liquid . Did u put both n the batch?
@@NorthernBrewerTV its a couple yrs old will the beer still be good?
@@NorthernBrewerTV also i put it in the plastic 🔥 hot. Will that hurt it? My friend gave me the kit and never had time i dont have time either just wondering ifi should trash it or let it ferment? And do i have to bottel it can i just chill it n drink?
How does one become a professional at boilovers? I have a feeling I'll be good at them, but how do I get paid to do it?
Don't buy this kit! it has everything you need to become addicted to the hobby. Then you will buy more equipment, drink more beer, and spend more time brewing.
Türkiye'de neden sizin gibi satıcı yok.! :''(
Not brewing TV! :(
sanitize
ever thing
5:28 dont try this at home..priceless!
Nah I’m not seeing any fermentation
As with any liscence alcohol kits guns weapons do not go together
ok never mind i just missed the obvious
First order of business is to get rid of that shitty wing caper. Just throw that POS away and get yourself a floor/bench caper. Will make your bottling go much easier
I think I would respect you guys a little more if you would actually ADMIT Goose Island AND Northern Brewer is totally owned by AB INBEV! SHAME on you trying to lie to the public. "Collaboration", my ass - it's all owned by the same company.
I recent years all the beer in the Seattle area tastes like crap, I I think using some bizzare geek hops to appeal to the poos stinking type smoking drug people or WTf and giving the beer a nasty taste so my question is what is this hidious type of hop that has a nasty old coffee grounds mixed with broccoli taste . It is like every brand uses this crud now ? Which hop is it please / ??? 💩💩☠☠💔💔💔
Holy heck, we have no idea what hop this is but we'd certainly want to avoid it as well.
Great video but would be even better if you warn people about how much "fun" their first hot break can be and what to look out for.
