Good luck with that. Telus technicians are largely incompetent. They KNOW we have 1.0 gb hardware, and they switched us to 3G remotely without swapping the hardware to accommodate the higher speeds. Result is the internet died, and nobody knew why. Tech after tech came to our home, trying to figure it out, with some having no clue, while others wrongly speculated our home was wired wrong, or some other hypothesis. Work from home doesn't work when you have no internet for a week or two. Finally, someone who had a clue figured out that Telus just flipped a switch to 3G on their end, and expected our hardware to function with the higher speeds even though it was not designed to.
This video explains A LOT! Thanks so much friend - I thought it was Telus that was bottlenecking my service but it seems there are some devices I will need to upgrade. This video was edited in a way that even the regular consumer will understand in lamen's terms. Cheers!
I would upgrade to Telus 3G GB however I managed to get the 1G GB speed for $50/mo, so I don’t think paying over double would be worth it given 90% of our electronics can’t handle over 1G GB bandwidth speed.
It's very new equipment as of the time of my video. When you speak to Telus customer service you have to spell out that you want the "6E" extender. It's so new some staff haven't been briefed on it and there was a lot of confusion by them thinking I was asking for 'Wifi Plus'.
Hi, I’m in the process of trying to upgrade our own home network and have the Telus 3G Fibre + plan. I purchased a TRENDnet 10G, 5 port switch (TEG-S750) and tried to connect it yesterday without much success. Connected to the 10G port on the modem, I lost the internet on our iMacs with message that it had self assigned an IP address and would not connect to the internet. In checking with TRENDnet support I was informed the switch needs to be connected directly to our router which our case iis the Boost 6 and has only gigabit ports which defeats the purpose of the upgrade. Any suggestions?
So, I reviewed the specs for the TEG-S750 and thought maybe it was a managed switch, but it's not which is a mystery. And I'm surprised at the direction from TRENDnet support only because if it's an unmanaged switch it shouldn't make a difference. My only recommendation is to swap to the same switch as myself, which I can confirm works, unless TRENDnet are going to supply better tech support.
Thanks for your reply. The issue seemed to fix itself. After many attempts of with different connections, I went back to the one I had tried first which was the new switch connected to the 10G port on the network access panel and the Boost 6 to one of the other ports. The DNS worked and we had internet. Now just waiting for the new iMac to arrive and see what speed we can get.
Do you have a network diagram of your network? I’d am getting confused. Did you wire your ONT to the switch directly? What are you using as a router to make sure IP address still function properly?
Great video! Did Telus have to come out to upgrade your hardware, or did they just send it to you for self-install? My preference would be self-install as I am more than comfortable doing so.
Hello I got this service today and I connected my computer with an Ethernet cable to the modem router (I think you called it the Boost?) LAN ports and I'm only getting 1gb speed. My motherboard only supports 1gb Ethernet port so do I need a network card for this? Do those LAN ports on the modem router have 3gb support? I'd like to know how I can achieve around the 2.4g speed you got in the speed test with an Ethernet cable to my computer. Thank you for your help 😊
Hi. Yes, you'll need the update your motherboard with a 2.5Gbit ethernet controller (or higher) and also run a Ethernet Cat6 cable directly from your modem. The output from the boosts is only 1Gbit despite the input accommodating 2.5Gbit.
Hey for the Wifi6E did Telus provide this as free or did you pay for it? I have the Telus PureFiber X 3G and I called telus and asked them to send this but they were not willing to send this for free.
I checked and it seems to be bundled into my equipment as part of my contract. I may have just sneaked in when it was brand new and now their policy may have changed.
I installed a Telus pure fiber 3g Last month, they have only changed SFP+ and same wifi 6 router, i took that plan bcz in which they are offering wifi 6e devices, but they said wifi 6 is the latest router, even technician was not aware about any new wifi 6e devices. I am not able to fully utilise the 3gbps speed.
Hi. So, in my video I go into more detail but to get the maximum speed via ethernet you'll definitely need the right Cat6 of Cat5e (over shorter distance) plus a 10Gbit controller on your PC if you're connecting directly to your modem. In my case in the video I use a switch for my household. For the 6E extender I was one of the first customers to receive a unit so I'm not sure how widely available they are since I published. However, if you're open to upgrading, there are some third party routers available, like the Amazon Eero devices that support 6E without the need for an extender.
@@HowToDoItTech finally they have updated my wifi 6 modem to 6e extender and charge 10 dollars for wifi plus every month. But the 6e extender is in cylindrical shape. Having 3 ports of Ethernet 5g,2.5g and 1g. But that extender doesn't work well. M6 few devices are facing network problems, my iptv showing connection problem. It is not as stable as a wifi 6 booster.
Yeah they just called me and offered 3G for $65/mon on a 2 year and said they would pay my Shaw cancellation fee. I am paying $115/mon for 1G on Shaw. Seems like it might be worth it since I use newsgroups A LOT. The DL speeds of 300 MB/s would be killer...plus gaming. My home is old so the installation might be a pain however.
So, if you can get it and can use the bandwidth, it's great :) The key thing for older homes that don't have CAT6 built in will be that you'll need to be able to run a CAT6 cable from the modem to any device that can use 3Gbps (not 300Mps, btw) - These include PCs with 3Gbps ethernet controllers. In my video I explain that modern consoles only have a 1Gbps connection.
@@HowToDoItTech yeah I was just looking up on the motherboard of my PC which is a TUF x570 Wi-Fi plus and it has the Realtek L8200A on it which I don't think is 2.5. so it kind of defeats switching over but it is almost half the price so even if I'm getting a gigabyte on Telus I'm still saving considerable amount and don't have to deal with Rogers

It's a really interesting one. I'm seeing a fair amount of people online and in forums say that over their home network get 3 Gbps on 5e. I do know from the standard that it has potentially something to do with the distances involved in the average house. Totally get the guidelines for customers though.
@@HowToDoItTech indeed it does! What provides the multi gigabit connection to your switch? The supplied hardware has a single multi gigabit ethernet wan port?
