It sounds like a pretty solid review as there seems to be a push in the woods bike market. How about a test or comparison on the track? For all us retired MXers, I like to see how much I’m giving up by moving away from a track bike to the woods bike. I like the videos when you bring a hotshot in to strangle the guts out a bike.
with these new enduro bikes you're not giving up anything the only difference is suspension tuning and like 8 lbs of weight which just comes from the kick stand, headlight and extra wiring, most mx bikes now have elec. start so it's not like the battery weight is even a thing anymore cause they all have a battery
I have a modded 2015 that I ride mostly at the track lately. I’m on the standard map, 51T rear sprocket, with Dunlop MX53’s since it’s hard pack where I ride. Just had the suspension set up for me and it made a big difference, but I do wish I had a YZ, or at least the suspension. My bike is plenty fast but I always wondered what that YZ suspension would be like. I’ve ditched the heavy duty hand guards, have the lithium battery, full FMF exhaust, and I run half a gallon less gas (1.6 gal like a YZ). That has saved some weight, but I’m still going to replace the heavy duty skid plate I have now with a plastic Cycra, and the headlight with a number plate. That’ll put me in YZ250FX weight range, decent for MX, but it’s still not 232 lbs.
Excellent review. I have been kind of Honda guy all my life and i am seriously going to have to reconsider when i purchase a new 4 stroke. It will definitely be between the Honda CRFX and the Yamaha WR now.

Love it man! I'm following from across the world in Alberta, Canada. I don't know how tall you are but I'm 6 foot 3 inch and I cant find a comfort zone on my 2019 YZ450FX. I found my 2017 YZ450FX a much more comfortable and confidence inspiring machine. The 2019, which is the same chassis to '21, just has me constantly moving my feet trying to position myself correctly. Not sure you've noticed this but thought I'd give my 2 cents.
Fantastic bikes! Who would want to ride a $25,000 1,250cc Adventure(!) bike after riding one of these beauties? My only question: Can these be licensed for road use in the US?
I get the cable clutch but why does everyone want a 6 speed box? I find most of my riding is done in first and second. Even on the road my 2015 WR450 is fine at 100km/h
Ha, I have a 2018 with a 5 speed. Does 105mph in 5th with a tune and exhaust. Putting it in first will put it into "tractor mode" and you can creep with no clutch or throttle UP HILL. You're just going off paper values rather than physical experience.
I want to buy a ktm but I don't know whether to choose the 1190R or an 890R. I am experienced in hard enduro, and I think the 1190 will be more comfortable to piste. The question is whether it will be very clumsy in more complicated areas.
Heya Adam. Good video. Have a YZ but looking at getting a WR for enduro as well. Was pretty insightful and informative. What GoPro mount were you using for the reverse POV of you guys following each other? Looked really good!
I have a 2018 WR450. And for anyone who is curious you will constantly be hitting the limits of the 250. Always shifting up to find there's nothing more. With the 450 you will never hit its limit. You will always be chasing the end with the end being out of sight. The 450 can be tame and ridden slow. But if you want to be aggressive you'll always be humbled by the power. The 250 will not give you the same satisfaction. You will out grow it no matter how old or experienced you are. There is just a lot more room for growth and the thrill of riding with the 450.
Nice comment man, im constantly looking at reviews trying to compare the two lol I havent been on a bike for years and I have also had surgery on my cervical spine im leaning towards the 250 but im not sure. Depends on the riding you do. I own a 19 450fx and love it but my buddys 2020 250fx is hard to beat in the tighter trails. You dont have to be as cautious with the throttle
Mainly just trail riding mate, pines bushland etc probs a bit on the sand and bitumen on the way to my destination. I think I'll go with the 450, I think I'll respect it a lot more and the 250 I'll end up pushing it to its limits where the 450 I'll be to scared to lol but all in all I'll be just putting around with but like knowing the power is there if I need it.
Doubt you will hit the limits of the 250F if you ride tight technical trails, the 450 is a beast in the tights woods, now if you're talking open dessert riding, or open "trails" like these guys ride, and you're a bigger person, yeah, the 450 may cut it more..
What sort of fuel range would you expect from the 450 during 'normal' trail riding? I know everyone's normal is gong to be different, but I'd be interested to hear your comments. Any issues with starting - hot or cold?
Sometimes they dont likr to start right away when hot. But trail riding youll get tired before you run out of fuel. Your usually low in the revs anyways. Ill ride ususlly 4 hoirs and burn half a tank riding technical single travk with my 2019 yz450fx
