    We recently had 3 pharmacists retire at the hospital I work in. We placed a want ad for the 3 positions. We got over 400 resumes from licensed pharmacists looking for work. My boss showed me a very thick stack of resumes and said "it's a nightmare out there".

    Just throwing this out there. Was a tech for 15 years prior to pharmacist. If you want to live in a crowded area then yes you will compete for a job. If you are willing to move then there are unlimited job opportunities in any field of choice plus bonuses plus more pay. You do not have to live in the middle of nowhere. Places like these are even located right outside major metro areas. People just want to work and live within a mile of work rather than outside the city. Just live outside the nonsense of city life and rake in the benefits. Anyone who says the market is saturated just ask them where they live and how far they commute. Too many spoiled people want to walk to work or work down the street. Every time I hear saturation it really bothers me as we are so short handed outside major cities that we shut pharmacies down due to lack of pharmacists whether it be within or relief.

He has his MTM certification and compounding certification as well. There are NOOOOOOO jobs!

Im in Philly, and we have allot of big Pharma companies here. I understand industry is very hard to get into. Can you address how to go about getting a summer internship in industry, at the VA hospital, or in long term care... Also any general advice you have for a PY2. Thank You.

    Hello Paul,
    I have a question about the pharmacy program, because I graduate community college this June and I am trying to Finish pre-pharmacy requirements classes that I have left.
    1) If I get accept in Pharm School, Are they allow me to take class part-time or they schedule that I have to follow ????
    2) English is my second language, I am very afraid that I cannot do well and might get kick out the program if I was behind of most other students.. I got a B on calculus, chemistry and biology, but I took most of them in different time..
    So, what do you think about what I can do in my position now?? and any recommend from you??
    Thank You very much

    In my country we study pharmacy for 6 years our study programme is more complex and after graduation you are jobless the only thing you can find is delegation in a drugs company and it's not stable or work in a pharmacy with a really poor pay tchek, you can do a residency in toxicology, biochemistry.,microbiology, analytical chemistry...... But you have to study another 3-5 years and hell I'm not doing that

    Question: How exactly do you get a pharmacy license? Also, how would you go about getting a license in another state from the one you are currently in/went to school in? Thanks.

    • @pharmd718
      @pharmd718 9 лет назад

      Once you finish school you are eligible for the licensing exam. In NY to be licensed you have to take 3 exams. 1st is the NAPLEX which is general questions about drugs, pharmacology, etc. 2ed test is the law test which is mostly about the legal aspects of pharmacy (how to handle narcotics....etc.). 3ed is a compounding exam (a 2 day exam) where you prepare products and answer questions about ad mixtures and prescriptions under the supervision of licensed pharmacists who grade you. You must score at least a 75 on all 3 to get a license.

    hi paul I really need your advice!
    So I'm attending a community college this fall and I just graduated high school. My plan was to actually major in Italian but have all the pre-pharmacy courses under my belt so I'd stand out when it comes to transferring. I want to try and get into USC and attain my bachelors degree in Italian; then try to get into their pharmacy program from there since I saw they were rated #3 for their program. But, my question for you is do you think I'm heading in the right direction or do you think I should major in something else. PLEASE HELP! (btw I love and watch all your videos)

    • @pharmd718
      @pharmd718 9 лет назад

      Hi Kimmie, before choosing any profession I strongly recommend that you research the job market. See what the demand for your chosen profession is. I am in NYC and right now things are pretty bad for new pharmacy grads. I heard its a little worse in the west coast. That said, you have a few things going for you. First, USC is an excellent choice and if you plan on working in a clinical setting (such as a hospital), it will go a long way.....not so much if you plan on working for retail pharmacy. Second, although the job market for pharmacists has gotten worse, there is no say what it will be like when you finish pharmacy school (although I don't see a major improvement in demand). Make your decision carefully as a career in pharmacy involves a considerable investment.

    I graduated in 2015. I had 3 job offers before graduating. The market is not dried up everywhere. The catch is, you may have to be willing to sell your soul to CVS or Walgreens. I did Walgreens for 5-6 months while I looked for a different job. Now I work 6-2:30 Monday through Friday at a desk doing MTM and Med Rec.

    Hi, Paul. I've been watching your video for quite a while.
    I am currently P3 in Texas and is extremely interested in working in seattle area once I graduate.
    My area has extremely saturated job market for the pharmacists and some of recent graduates from my college actually had hard time finding jobs.
    Would it be similar case in your area as well?
    What's your opinion of job market in seattle?
    I would greatly appreciate your response. :)
    P.S. you are basically living my dream right now! practicing pharmacist in Seattle with all your loans paid off!!!!!!

    Dear pharmacy student,
    I have recently graduated high school. I've decided to attend a community college and then transfer to a 4 year university. I will be majoring in chemistry; however, I have noticed that in order to major in chem you have to go through certain levels of difficult math classes (at least for me because math is not my cup of tea).
    Is the math prerequisite in order to be accepted into pharmacy school really high?

      Hey, whatever state you relocating to- find out what their state pharmacy board requires. Every state has different laws. In Louisiana you are required to earn 200 pharmacy hours after receiving your permit. So you need to look into that and always find out and keep your laws in your pocket.

    hi, i am currently a pre-pharmacy student and i was wondering what is a GPA that would make me "competitive" to get accepted into pharmacy school?

    • @gsxwrx
      @gsxwrx 9 лет назад

      3.6/4. I've seen 3.0 before. I'm not a pharmacist but have family.

    • @pharmd718
      @pharmd718 9 лет назад

      Recently the pharmacy school I went to (NYC) has raised in GPA requirement for the pharmacy program. It went up from a 3.0 to 3.2. The problem is that you have 1000 potential candidates for 200 available seats....and all those candidates have a GPA of 3.2 or above.....so they take the strongest 200......which means that those accepted have a 3.6 or above. A professor I worked with told me that this years pharmacy class is especially strong and much stronger then my year. When I applied in 1998 there were 600 applicants for 200 seats and I got in with a 3.48. in 2006 I heard they had over 2000 applicants for those 200 seats. That said, I don't want to discourage of in trying. There are other variables that they consider.....like a strong passion for the profession, leadership, and other strong interests (which you can make known during the interview).

    • @lovefunkrockmusic
      @lovefunkrockmusic 6 лет назад

      Dude, there not a particular competitive GPA anymore. A 3.0 is good enough for pharmacy. And if I were you seriously intern in either hospital and or retail to establish your network. Pharmacy saturation is real. Do not be that student that has not worked in a pharmacy after you graduate.

    • @lovefunkrockmusic
      @lovefunkrockmusic 6 лет назад

      Also go to a state school. If you go to a state school 3.3 is good enough. Do not apply to schools over 20k a year.
