The consequences are so "big". Turning the wrong page or misreading a line and "WTFuuu...." wooooooshhhh into the bush + making the car random flips in the air because of a hidden rock + crash into a tree upside down. Co pilot? Equals badass reader.
+Petit Louis if u ever get a chance to look at their note book, its actually plastic pages with very large print, cause notice they change the page frequently. the larger print is what helps with the co-pilot being able to read
RIP Richard and Colin McCray. Both so successful in WRC and with Subaru. Who would have thought they would have both passed away. Such a shame. But thanks to these onboard videos, people can still appreciate their superb talent, and so the legends live on.
Hymer300 Just learn the rallye language. He uses the standard terminology. I must admit that this stage was really a test for the co-driver as well. A very difficult one to read pace notes from!
Hymer300 different drivers/co-drivers use different terminology. Solberg and mills for example used: 6 right for a 6th gear right, 4 right for a 4th gear right and so on. 3 left minus would be a tight 3rd gear left and plus would be a fast 3rd gear corner and so on often the terms square or 90 then the direction is used for a 90° corner, if you watch plenty of onboard rallying and interviews with co-drivers you'll soon pick it up, or play rallying games on games consoles.
The ANT It's all a matter of intuition. If you pay attention to what the likes of Robert Reid and Nicky Grist are saying whilst noting what's ahead, you'll get their drift more or less.

Maybe not, though. Fuck man, I don´t know, we´ll see what happens. No, I don´t want to ask for directions, that´d be embarrassing."
+Jet Gamma I've heard someone suggest that "maybe" == "flat out if you're on the right line", perhaps like "low margin for error". I'm not sure that he was right though. It's definitely seems to me like they're using a shorthand code to describe either the road, and/or line. I wish I knew more about it too be completely honest.
+Timo J Yeah I think it all depends whether you hit the previous right or not, as it influences the exit speed and thus the speed with which you are arriving at the jump or crest. If you are slower, then you will obviously not get airborne, so therefore "maybe".
+Jeremy J. "Maybe" is used in the earlier stages of making notes. It's very easy to waste a lot of time by trying to get the severity of every corner exactly right on the first run, so using "maybe" is a good reminder to check it on the next run. It's also short and communicates to the driver that what is recorded as a 4 could be a 5, etc, thus making them take the corner slightly more cautiously. xXUnoriginalNameXx33 The co driver in dirt rally uses different terminology than what burns and reid did. You can't just listen to a pace note and then assume that's absolute throughout rallying, because pace notes are subjective to a rally team.
Instead of the traditional number system used in pace notes( [1-9] and lower the number the more severe the turn.) They used whats called a simplified pace notes system that just uses "slight , fast, medium, hard, easy, bad, etc" to describe the turns. Juha Kankkunen also used this system because even though he's Finnish his pace notes were also in English.
Only after hundreds of hours in DiRT Rally and RBR have I finally understood all that steering input and pacenotes and now I appreciate this video even more
I play dirt Rally now on Controller I had a full Cockpit but it was too big for my room so i sold it. After I played i think like 50 hours dirt Rally it doesnt matter if Controller or Cockpit I still suck and seeing this is crazy.
I play EA Sports WRC and I can drive this fast for about 1 or 2 minutes and then crash. On the odd occasion when I managed to keep it on the road for more then 3 I can get a world record. But to drive THIS fast, for hours every day, without any mistakes, I cannot even comprehend. Rally drivers truly are just built differently.
Ben Conway Yeah it was great shame Colin died, but I couldn’t ever compare him with a Richard. Very talented driver in his own way, but could have been so much better if he’d be a little more strategic and a little less emotional. But all that said a great driver, great bloke and definitely made huge mark on British rallying for the better.
@@S7EVE_P Totally agree with you.Colin McRae was a true great! But, Richard Burns was perhaps? a more mature driver,a beautifully controlled driver.Whereas McRae just went for it. BOTH driving Gods
