The hand discussed at 27 minute mark was very instructive. Making 13 tricks was possible with normal suit breaks, and although it might only make 12 or 11 with other layouts (e.g. E holding 4 trump, or W a Diamond doubleton, or even a 0-5 Club split), there is no downside to playing the line you showed as best. I wonder how many times I've received a poor matchpoint score by simply crossruffing and settling for a 4S+1 result, not stopping to think "there might be a better way." Thank you!

Hi Tony, another great tutorial. Many thanks.
At 24.00 things work out well as the opponent's trumps split 3-2. Is there a strategy which guards against them splitting 4-1 (28% chance, but seems to happen a lot more than that with me!).
    Thanks for your comments, Nigel
