Absolutely brilliant/ beautiful song......Takes me back to Ayr in Scotland where I was brought up working on fishing boats when I was 18 or 19.....The anchor bar...where only tough guys dare to tread.....This song I played on the Duke box time and time again....I don't think too many other people appreciated it. Because we were tough....I did....Loved it.
I was just 6 when this song came out in 1977, but remember hearing it as my Mom drove w/ me in the back seat just taking all the music in that came out of her car radio. This song brings back great memories even tho I was just a kid. So blessed to grow up in the 70's. This song will nvr get old.
My story is almost the same thing except I was 4 years old but I would sit in the back of the car and songs like this would pland it just relaxed me I Miss those days I really do when music was soothing not like now I cannot stand this so-called music now No
Same, I was 7...Song reminds me of my parents driving me to the doctors...This song and I go crazy by Paul Davis were playing in the waiting room...I remember it like it was yesterday...
I was listening to his 1977 version just the other day and I was struck by the comparison of his voice vs the Beyonce/Tayler Swift/you pick singers of today. The modern offerings from these singers don't hold up very well against Dan Hill's masterpiece. Beautiful voice, beautiful song, and beautiful memories. I was fortunate to grow up during an amazing renaissance of music with the likes of Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Dan Hill, the Eagles, and the list goes on. What a gift this man is to the world.
1980 with a record player on the bedroom floor a 13yld boy played this 45 over and over. Didn't know romance or heartache but the song was beautiful; 'course before his friends came over he had to quickly switch it out with KISS ALIVE II
Evokes so much from my 13 year old self so many years ago. Didn’t have the life experience to fully appreciate back then, but somehow I still seemed to get it. Lovely.
This was, and is, still one of my all time favourite songs ...I just loved it then, and I still love it. One of the best songs ever. I was just 12 years old when it was released, but it really touched my heart and I have loved it ever since. Right up there with Chuckie's in Love 😂
Even though we divorced 21 years ago this is always a song I play every now and then to remember. He dedicated this to me over the radio in 1993. ❤ I will always love him.
Maybe he succeeded in his love story during 70’s ~ 80’s and his grandchildren are now watching him performing this masterpiece on the stage. How awesome that is ❤
So many years has gone by. I was a senior in high school and so so in love with a girl. She was so special. Timing was not there. We went our separate ways. Almost 50 yrs later my wife passed 2 yrs ago. I have reconnected with my high school love. It don’t get any better.
One of the most emotional & passionate songs ever written. Kind of song that spurs so much love you have for a special someone. I read an interview Dan Hill did and he said every time he talks about what he felt when he wrote this song he gets teary eyed and chokes up. Well no wonder!
"Sometimes When We Touch" You ask me if I love you And I choke on my reply I'd rather hurt you honestly Than mislead you with a lie And who am I to judge you On what you say or do I'm only just beginning To see the real you And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you 'til I die 'Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides Romance and all its strategies Leaves me battling with my pride But for all the insecurity Some tenderness survives I'm just another writer Still trapped within my truth A hesitant prize-fighter Still trapped within my youth And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you 'til I die 'Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides At times I'd like to break you And drive you to your knees At times I'd like to break through And hold you endlessly At times I understand you And I know how hard you try I've watched while love commands you And I've watched love pass you by At times I think we're drifters Still searching for a friend A brother or a sister But then the passion flares again And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you 'til I die 'Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides, subsides
1977- Local Friend had a Big Sister who used to drive a Big Impala Blasting This Song Out of a Dashboard Speaker telling us all to Shaddup! @ Age 15, Rock & Roll was My Preference back then but later learned this song had beautiful meaning.
To długa droga Na której jesteś sam I to boli gdy Oni rozdzierają Twoje marzenia Każde nowe miasto Przygnębia cię coraz bardziej Próbując znaleźć spokój ducha Możesz złamać swoje serce To jest prawdziwa wojna Tuż za Twoimi drzwiami, mówię Ci Tam gdzie chcą Cie zabić, Mógłbyś użyć Przyjaciela Tam gdzie droga Tam jest moje miejsce Gdzie jestem sobą w moim świecie Gdzie jestem wolny, to jest miejsce Tam chcę być Bo to długa droga Każdy krok jest tylko początkiem Bez przystanku i z bólem serca Człowieku, czy ktokolwiek wygrywa? To długa droga, I piekielnie ciężka Powiedz mi co zrobisz Aby przeżyć Kiedy oni przelali pierwszą krew Po prostu to zaczęli Dzień i noc musisz walczyć Aby przeżyć 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 i remember, in the 90's, doing a request for this, on the Delilah show.. those were my hair metal years, and this song led into Survivor's the search is over
Dan Hill wrote the lyrics of this song in 1973 when he hoped to win the full affection of a polyamorous woman named Moira. She decided to run off with a CFL football player, but later, Moira resurfaced and, according to Hill, wanted to pursue a serious relationship. . Dan Hill did not want to get hurt again. Would love to learn more about Moira, perhaps find a picture of her.
I love this song, and many others, but my favourite song on that album is "People" ... I'd really like to know the chords to share it with others...could that happen/please share ...'I still believe in people"
Dan is such a great talent. I loved his recording of “It’s a long road” from First Blood. I wish he would play that live or do an updated recording of it.
Like a young prize fighter who understands he is slowly losing his magic and decides to wisely retire before he becomes humiliated in the ring because he has passed his prime, so I think once famous singers need to do the same.
This isn't universally true, though. Some singers are able to maintain their magic into their old age or adapt their style to continue making quality music. Ann Wilson and Sammy Hagar are a couple examples of singers in their 70s who still sound great. Robert Plant, on the other hand, doesn't have the range he once had, but he has changed his style over the years and continues to make quality new music.
After all of these years...he still makes you stop and listen.
Exactly, my favourite song.

One of the most honest songs ever written. Sends a tsunami of emotions across my spines each time.
Your "spines?" You're not human, I take it.
Beautiful song. Raw emotion. Could listen over and over.
❤❤❤

Me too 6
Even though we were young we knew how amazing this song was

Both are good decisions, but in the most situations i prefer KISS. 😂
What a beautiful song. I always listened to it when alone, because the rawness of it reduced me to tears.
This kind of music never gets old😢
My all time favorite artist. Since the 70s just gets better with time..This song is timeless

Damn good. What a legend this man is.
the vocal and melody are timeless
I have always loved this song! One of my favorites from the 70's.
Absolutely beautiful 😊
"Sometimes When We Touch"
You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you
On what you say or do
I'm only just beginning
To see the real you
And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you 'til I die
'Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides
Romance and all its strategies
Leaves me battling with my pride
But for all the insecurity
Some tenderness survives
I'm just another writer
Still trapped within my truth
A hesitant prize-fighter
Still trapped within my youth
And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you 'til I die
'Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides
At times I'd like to break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through
And hold you endlessly
At times I understand you
And I know how hard you try
I've watched while love commands you
And I've watched love pass you by
At times I think we're drifters
Still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister
But then the passion flares again
And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you 'til I die
'Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides, subsides
That was superbly beautiful, Dan Hill.
What a beautiful spirit you can feel from. This man and I'd love to get together with him and sing this lovely song
Saw him at Ontario’s place in the late 70’s, still sound great

Coolest nearly whisper ending rendition.
👏

He’s a hesitant prized fighter
I like this song. Dan used to look like Captain Caveman, guess we all age.
Dan is getting old, and he has finished singing his classic old song feebly, admiring him.

👏👏👏👏👏🇨🇦🇨🇦👏👏👏👏👏
You cannot write this song unless you’ve loved someone deeply.
I agree.
Sounds exactly like same
When did Danny start applying black face? Lol
I can’t tell if he’s black or white.

He still has it. No question
gain some, lose some. it is true almost everyone loses the high notes and clarity with age, but gains melancholy and texture
❤❤❤❤more emotional than 77
Simply perfect
