While it's not as prevalent these days, thanks to so many having easy access to a camera, some scammers would do it on purpose to get money. The key is to keep your body loose. My mom also got hit by a car while fishing for her keys in her purse and still survived. Unfortunately she still feels the effects from that to this day though.
