Some of my earliest memories are watching the old school godzilla movies with my mother. The new editions to the franchise have left me giddy and glad you're checking them out.
Muto did a EMP blast, short version- it shorts out anything electric. That's why the planes fell out of the sky, engines, lights shorted out. HALO jump from plane- High Altitude Low Opening This movie, they are husband/wife, in MCU they are Twins brother/sister. Monsterverse is US version. Minus one keeps to the original Japanese origins.
Godzilla (2014) Kong: Skull Island (2017) Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire (2024) All five movies of the Monsterverse, welcome!
42:28 in my opinion the HALO jump scene is the best scene in the entire movie and the monsterverse. Everything about it is perfect. The prayer of one of the soldiers at the start and the last look at the picture of his family. The doors open and the soundtrack changes from "heroic" to a "biblical", "horrifying" choir. That plus the beautiful cinematography just tries to show what it feels like in that moment for those soldiers. A jump into hell itself.
Brilliant use of a piece of music that's very similar to that from the famous 'Obelisk' scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's called "Ligeti: Requiem II Kyrie" for anyone interested. There's a great live performance of it on youtube if you search the name. It perfectly fits the idea of 'falling into hell' fo rthe halo scene in Godzilla. Honestly it is what sold me on this movie after seeing the trailer and hearing them use this. Set the tone perfectly.
20:52 I’ll explain this skeleton. That skeleton was actually another Godzilla. But later was killed by an even powerful MUTO called Muto Prime. Godzilla was used to be a species but eventually died off by the MUTOS, leaving Godzilla(Daddy Goji) the last of his kind, that we know of as of right now. Godzilla is indeed a creature that is hard-wired to kill those pests. But that’s not even the only Kaijus he needs to deal with. You’ll see when you see the rest of the other movies.
@@Still.the.best.2021 TOHO said that they force Legendary to retcon the lore of Godzilla, completely removing the Godzilla species. Which is incredibly stupid and unfair.
31:20 Both, actually lol. You obviously don't know and won't know it by only watching the movies but in the comic Godzilla Aftershock (taking place some months after the end of this movie), it's revealed that an even bigger and more powerful Muto, named Muto Prime, killed a member of Godzilla species (who is the skeletton you see at the beginning of the movie) and implanted in its body two spores that would absorb its radiation, would eventually hatch after enough radiation was absorbed and then become the Male and Female Muto you see in this movie. So yeah, very weird but, due to being the last two members of their species (apart from Muto Prime, their mother, which is dealt with in the comic) and having the same parent, they are mates AND siblings... So it was really funny to hear you mention those two possibilites and unknowingly being right at both lol.
@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim Yeah I know but I didn't want to spoil them the surprise of seeing another one as I don't know it they already watched KOTM or not. But yes, you're right. Queen Muto (also nicknamed Barb by Michael Dougherty) is also alive during this movie (she's dormant deep beneath a strip mall in Hoboken in New Jersey, something which explains how the other 3 Mutos most likely didn't know about her existence) and is, after the events of Aftershock, the last specimen of the Muto species still alive. Also btw I don't know if you're aware about that but the Queen Muto has been confirmed to, now that the previous Prime is dead, being in the middle of the process to evolve into a brand new Prime.
@omegaglacial I was not aware of that! Do you happen to have a source? Cause it does somewhat conflict with information Dougherty said, being that Godzilla left Queen Muto alive because she was infertile.
One of my favorite parts of this movie is during the Golden Gate Bridge Attack, when the soldiers on the bridge maintain trigger discipline, and only aim their rifle when they have a clear target. When the bus swipes through, the soldiers behind them do not fire, and fire only when the bus passes.
It should be noted that the Monsterverse gets progressively wackier and over the top as they go on, and it's a pretty big tonal shift from this movie. But 95% of Japanese Godzilla movies are very much the same way, and those movies are just as fun as the more serious Godzilla movies. It just shows how many different ways Godzilla can be interpreted.
Yeah, Legendary kind of abandoned depth of storytelling and went more for crowdpleasing fun. It's by no means a bad direction to take, Deadpool and Wolverine did the same, and I fully enjoy it, but I'd also love to see what Legendary could do if they went fully serious and avoided the blinding neon colors.
@@JakkFrost1 I think they announced a new director for the next Monsterverse Godzilla movie. And based on that directors film record, it's likely gonna be a more grounded Godzilla movie.
Good reaction! Happy you’re checking out the Monsterverse. This one was able to bring Godzilla back from a decade long hiatus since his last film in 2004. Monsterverse Godzilla is more of a protector of nature in that he’ll help the planet whenever it’s threaten and to keep his status as king because he believes he’s the only one that can keep everything in balance. You can still see he has emotions & didn’t attack anyone unless they attack him. I mention in the Minus One video that Godzilla as a character can be a hero or antagonist depending on the interpretation and Monsterverse leans more towards the anti-hero angle. After the original 1954 film, Toho Studios decided to change the formula by having the Big G go through a redemption arc and became a hero/anti-hero by the 5th movie in the franchise. Since then, he’s often fights more evil monsters than destroy cities. Even when they rebooted the series a few times and made him a antagonist again in the 80’s and early 2000’s, they still found ways to still make Godzilla the one to root for when there’s another creature to fight. Can’t wait for you guys to get to know Kong next. ^^
Thank you SO much for the super thanks 🙏🏼🤩 and for this background context for Godzilla. We just filmed Kong Skull island and will be dropping that reaction here soon! Thanks for the support and watching along ❤️🎉
I forever love this film for its pacing, the horror movie like buildup of the scale and destructiveness of the first two monsters in particular. The way the planes exploding leads to that unfathomably huge foot and the crowd going silent and that pan up to the classic Godzilla scream. -chef kiss- Followed by the first powerup of the plasma blast, of course!
This first one they were trying for more of a Jaws asthetic, see the monster less etc. And yes, during the novelazation I think they did mention that Godzilla absorbed the radiation from the bomb so the whole area wasn't irradiated.
to answer your mild confusion over why Godzilla didn't use his atomic breath until later in the fight, there's actually an in-universe reason for this beyond simply cinematic drama. Since MUTOs originally evolved as parasites of the Godzilla species, they evolved certain defensive attributes to counter this alpha-predator breed, and the most ingenious of them was the EMP, which the MUTOs use to either severely weaken or outright extinguish any atomic breath a Godzilla might try and produce; meaning the MUTOs are essentially built to deprive Godzilla of his most powerful weapon, so the fact that Godzilla was able to produce any (admittedly weakened) amount of atomic breath while deep inside the MUTOs sphere of EMP influence is no small accomplishment
The skeleton at the beginning was Dagon's. Many think he is Godzilla's father, but it has been officially confirmed that he is not. As assumed, he belongs to the Godzilla species but his abilities differ slightly from Godzilla. Muto Prime, the strongest version of Muto (not seen in the film), defeated him and in a moment of unconsciousness laid these eggs inside him. Both retreated, but Dagon died of his injuries a little later.
The notes Meesh's brother is sending is a really good idea because most people who watch these movies will either get lost or there is information that is left out in these films that is elaborated on in supplementary material. I advise you to keep doing this for the foreseeable future of the Monsterverse. Also, do keep in mind that after 2014, the movie does get a bit wackier and a bit more (for lack of a better word) silly. I don't mean that as a bad thing it's a good thing it's actually a lot of fun. Because these movies are not afraid to admit what they are and that's honestly beautiful to see that a movie is not afraid to be what they are: stupid monster movies that are awesome to watch.
There are different interpretation of Gojira: '54 - Allegory of nuclear bomb '62 - First giant monster rivalry between East and West '55 - '04 - Goofy fun '98 - First American movie attempt that we never speak of again '16 - The return to his original roots. King of the Monsters, Shin Godzilla and Godzilla vs Hedorah should be next on the list. KOTM is dope for bringing back the classic TOHO monster themes in epic fashion.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a great watch after watching the movies. It's a show based around after the first godzilla, second season has already been renewed
im so glad you ladies are going into the monster verse, it has some great movies, but dont forget to go to the beginning of godzilla and watch all the ones before this one there some great movies as well. this is the best reaction to any monster movie ive seen yet you ladies are awesome.
Amazing and wonderful reaction!! I am so happy you both are diving into the Monsterverse!!! 😊 Get ready for lots of Kaiju action and fun!! I loved your Godzilla Minus One reaction too!! New Subscriber and greetings from Miami!! ❤️❤️
A heads up from a G-fan: Godzilla has always had a history of each new series starting off from a grounded tone and progresses to a more fantastical one in a span of a few short installments. This is the versatility of the character fully displayed, and celebrated, throughout the entirety of the MonsterVerse. Something to keep in mind should you continue. P.S. The reason why Godzilla in this movie didn't use his breath before was because, as explained in the novelization, the MUTOs EMP kept preventing him from using it.
How does that work? I figure the emp ability allows them to handle things like a missle without setting it off accidentally, but for godzilla, it's a biological function. I don't get how one animals ability can just disrupt another's.
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 Exactly! It Doesn’t Work that Way! In fact, I love the Director’s Original Explanation! Due to Godzilla’s recent awakening, he’s Low on Atomic Power. So he saves his Atomic Breath as a Last resort! And when he was being attacked by both MUTOs, he was forced to Use it as a Counterattack!
@danielramsey6141 that makes more sense. He hasn't battled anything in probably yrs(not including the monarch series). He was definitely thicker, more sluggish. Like someone that hasn't worked out for a while. But after the mutos, he got back into fighting shape. Maybe not right away since he struggled with ghidorah, but since then, no problem.
I really love this Godzilla movie as the introduction. I love the sequel 'King Of The Monsters' for the amazing monster fights of which more should have been in the first movie... 😅
Love your reaction to big G at the end standing on business hahaha, please watch all the monster verse videos! You two are such a pleasure to watch react :)
I think this is the absolute best the Monsterverse ever got. A true love letter to the Toho Godzillas and not just a schlocky cg boxing match. My only issue, is that an error happened on the home release that made it NOTICEABLY DARKER THAN THE THEATRICAL RELEASE, and it makes some of the scenes absolutely muddy. I THINK the latest Blu Ray editions fixed it?
This is my second favorite Godzilla movie after Godzilla Minus One. They did such a great job of creating scale in this movie. And the monsters are actually terrifying. I also just love Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, who somehow went on to play twins a year later in Avengers after playing a married couple here 😂😂😂 After this, the Monsterverse gets a bit sillier and less emotionally impactful, but the visuals are cool. Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters is that dude
Godzilla bit female MUTO in neck... Godzilla: get over here... Female MUTO: what!? Get off me!! Godzilla open female MUTO's mouth... Godzilla:*HAK TU WAAAAAAAHHHHRRRRRRGGGHHHH* *Deep in to her throat
Welcome to and I hop you enjoy the monsterverse Meesh and Dee Loved the video, just wanted to say the MUTOs don't have earthquake powers it's actually their EMP ability, it shuts down electronics and weakens godzillas atomic breath which is the reason he couldn't use it most of the movie, it also means that when he did eventually use it near the end of the movie we aren't seeing it at full power Look forward to the next monsterverse reaction
Dear Santa, since this movie is about two big beetles and their forbidden romance, than this is what I want for Christmas. I want to find out if Meesh and Dee have twin sisters. If so, I'd like their number for Christmas :)
So you notice the atomic breath and charge up is different in this movie and in Minus One. That's because, not including Minus One, ever since the original 1954 to now it's always the spikes glowing and moving up from the tail to his head and the beam looks like Kamehameha from Dragonball lol And so with Minus one's version, it's unique where as it charges, the spikes pops out then pops back in when he's charged up and ready to fire. There's also other unique atomic breaths and different versions throughout the original Japanese movies. Just a cool little fact for you
Fun fact after the early screening for Toho, they greatly loved Godzilla 2014 at the premiere, they showed their appreciation by crying with joy and smiling with happiness oh and to explain why Gozilla didn't use his Atomic Breath sooner it's because M.U.T.O.s are like his natural weakness in the Monsterverse continuity their EMP ability disrupts the Atomic Breath.
Doesn’t feel like that to me. Me, along with most fans, believed it was a Natural Defense when Godzilla needed a counter attack to Both MUTOs attacking him!
I really hope yall react to shin godzilla! Its another one off (the godzilla franchise constantly has remakes acting like other movies didnt exist etc) but shin godzilla is more of a horror film than an action movie, its creepy and terrifying but also depressing at the same time
Hey there! I'm pretty new to this channel, but I am an old Godzilla fan since I was 16 years old, now I am 24. You two have any plans on watching the original 1954 Gojira movie? The movie that started it all?
Welcome to this franchise! and don't forget to look at the series that called "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" . This show is part of the monsterverse too. Have fun!
Great reaction! The comment about the dad needing to put the kid down because hes running slower is a bit wild though lmaooo. The kid can't run as fast as their parent, and they'd likely just get trampled. Thats a good dad.
The two monsters that Godzilla fought in this movie was made up. The studio didnt have rights yet to a lot or the other muto's, like Mothra, so they created this one. So these were brand new muto's, and not the moth one. Still a good villain monster I think. Alot of fans didnt like how theyd barely show Godzilla, but I loved it.
Just discovered your channel today! Loved your reaction. I see you have a lot of stuff I really like, from Fallout to The Legend of Vox Machina and a lot in between. You are such a cute couple! Subscribed!
this monsterverse pretty much followed the same japanese path. you see, the original godzilla film from japan was dark and gritty too, then came the showa era which was really crazy goofy films, like if youre too much of the science stuff and realism in movies you would hate those movies. same with the monsterverse, this was the darkest and grittiest one so far, then kong skull island was already cheesy and goofy, then it went even more cheesier. even though i still love the monsterverse, i just wish they would make just one more movie with this kind of style but with more balanced action and human drama.
I hope you will react to the 2024 worlds final opening ceremony of League of Legend, and if you do it could be really interesting to also react to "Make them believe" in the same video. It's not useful to separate them in 2 video if you dont really know league's esport but it's a 7 minutes video that they broadcast right after the cermony and it's super emotional, it really show what sacrifice it is to become a worlds champion
6:57 I was REALLY wishing that was the Movie we Got. As much as I love Godzilla, I hate how this movie was made 😑 Some things worked, others did not. At the very Least Godzilla Minus One was a Great Film that eclipsed this film!
Logistically the emp attack from both mutos would have been useless prior to 200 years ago. Electricity hadn't been integrated into our lives back then as it is today. That means millions of years ago the attack would have made no difference to anything.
The concept for Godzilla in the MonsterVerse is that he is the apex predator who kills other "pest" monsters to keep their population in check. He'll let it be as long as a monster doesn't challenge or threaten his dominance. He is "King of the Monsters" after all and must keep his subjects in check so they don't challenge his throne 👑
I love this movie. My favorite part is when godzilla's foot stomps into frame and all the people screaming in the airport fall totally silent. The MUTOs were an awesome addition to kaiju ranks. The Monsterverse gets it, and shows respect to its roots. The early movies start off mostly serious, and touching (very lightly) on some serious topics, nuclear and environmental disasters. Then later films just getting straight up silly. Hope to see more!

King of the Monsters, Shin Godzilla and Godzilla vs Hedorah should be next on the list. KOTM is dope for bringing back the classic TOHO monster themes in epic fashion.
As a Godzilla fan welcome to the monsterverse
I’m sorry but 😂
“Split her up” “Yeah, just rip her open” “OOOOH IN THE MOUTH?!!”
I love this channel
"Godzilla does get a bit ***freaky*** at night"
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a great watch after watching the movies. It's a show based around after the first godzilla, second season has already been renewed
im so glad you ladies are going into the monster verse, it has some great movies, but dont forget to go to the beginning of godzilla and watch all the ones before this one there some great movies as well. this is the best reaction to any monster movie ive seen yet you ladies are awesome.
Glad you got round to watching these! The TV show Monarch ties in with Monsterverse if you can get to see that. Enjoy!
Godzilla with the ultimate Hawk Tuah!
Amazing and wonderful reaction!! I am so happy you both are diving into the Monsterverse!!! 😊 Get ready for lots of Kaiju action and fun!! I loved your Godzilla Minus One reaction too!! New Subscriber and greetings from Miami!! ❤️❤️
Poor things - part two - they thought there was going to be a fight on screen again lol
28:33 A very chonky and puffier Godzilla 😅❤

Exactly!
Let's go!!! The Monsterverse harkens back to Godzilla's fun, monster mash, beat em up films. I'm glad you guys are checking them out!
Wow, that's before she was Wanda.
You two already know about the kiss of death? Impressive 😎😎😎
Godzilla has always been the guardian of the nature and whether its hunans or other monsters thst ruin the balance of nature he will fight them.
Godzilla's the greatest gay icon ever.
The movie that started the monsterverse i love it
The Mutos are my fav charecter in the monsterverse
Well, savor this one because it’s the best of the series for sure.
Love y’all reaction
Can’t wait for the rest of the Monsterverse!
Godzilla bit female MUTO in neck...
Godzilla: get over here...
Female MUTO: what!? Get off me!!
Godzilla open female MUTO's mouth...
Godzilla:*HAK TU WAAAAAAAHHHHRRRRRRGGGHHHH*
*Deep in to her throat
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Delete this homie
@@BrowneePointz I'm not a homie so i can't
Welcome to and I hop you enjoy the monsterverse Meesh and Dee
Loved the video, just wanted to say the MUTOs don't have earthquake powers it's actually their EMP ability, it shuts down electronics and weakens godzillas atomic breath which is the reason he couldn't use it most of the movie, it also means that when he did eventually use it near the end of the movie we aren't seeing it at full power
Look forward to the next monsterverse reaction
"We wanted to see more of Godzilla" we all wanted to see more Godzilla lol but he does gets more ish screentime as the monsterverse progresses 😂
There is also the monarch monsterverse series
Let’s goooo! Stoked for this one
Dear Santa, since this movie is about two big beetles and their forbidden romance, than this is what I want for Christmas. I want to find out if Meesh and Dee have twin sisters. If so, I'd like their number for Christmas :)
There are
13 King Kong movies (4 canon to Godzilla)
38 Godzilla films with a 39th and 40th on the way
20-30 kaiju films canon to the original universe
Just a heads up before you see Kong: Skull Island, there's a post and end credit sequences.
So you notice the atomic breath and charge up is different in this movie and in Minus One. That's because, not including Minus One, ever since the original 1954 to now it's always the spikes glowing and moving up from the tail to his head and the beam looks like Kamehameha from Dragonball lol
And so with Minus one's version, it's unique where as it charges, the spikes pops out then pops back in when he's charged up and ready to fire.
Its another one off (the godzilla franchise constantly has remakes acting like other movies didnt exist etc) but shin godzilla is more of a horror film than an action movie, its creepy and terrifying but also depressing at the same time
Everything Wrong With Godzilla (2014)

Godzilla has a thing for headshots.
This movie is still the best in the series
Have fun!
"I thought he was the main character"
yeah, so did everyone else
EMP have you ever heard of that?! Man is being serious because if the use was hit with that EMP anything electrical is GONE! Good luck driving away
About time... Kong is next.. by order
The muto creature looks like the same creature from Cloverfield
50:17 I can't with you xD
I've watched this so many times but starting this reaction, I will refer to Godzilla as the Avatar.
You guys should've seen monsterverse movies before minus one
Great reaction! The comment about the dad needing to put the kid down because hes running slower is a bit wild though lmaooo. The kid can't run as fast as their parent, and they'd likely just get trampled. Thats a good dad.
The two monsters that Godzilla fought in this movie was made up. The studio didnt have rights yet to a lot or the other muto's, like Mothra, so they created this one. So these were brand new muto's, and not the moth one. Still a good villain monster I think.
Alot of fans didnt like how theyd barely show Godzilla, but I loved it.
Yeah this was less of a godzilla movie to me and more of a how godzilla impacts humans moive
Minus one may not be part of the monsterverse, but it could easily fit in there.
Your going to love King of the Monsters. Gman for the win!
Just discovered your channel today! Loved your reaction. I see you have a lot of stuff I really like, from Fallout to The Legend of Vox Machina and a lot in between.
You are such a cute couple! Subscribed!
Aww thank you for your sweet words! We’re so happy we can watch some of your fav shows together 🥰🫶🏼
this monsterverse pretty much followed the same japanese path. you see, the original godzilla film from japan was dark and gritty too, then came the showa era which was really crazy goofy films, like if youre too much of the science stuff and realism in movies you would hate those movies. same with the monsterverse, this was the darkest and grittiest one so far, then kong skull island was already cheesy and goofy, then it went even more cheesier. even though i still love the monsterverse, i just wish they would make just one more movie with this kind of style but with more balanced action and human drama.
As much as I love Godzilla, I hate how this movie was made 😑
Some things worked, others did not.
Actually, it was designed to counter Godzilla's atomic breath. The fact that it's an EMP is just a byproduct.
Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of Monsters have post credits scenes.
28:51 Poor thing, she thought they were going to fight.
Cant wait till they see the kong movie next
My favorite from the Monsterverse, but the others have more action.
the lack of prediction skills is crazy
Godzilla is the hero like the old Japanese films
If you wanna be chronological, you need to watch Kong skull Island next
I love this movie. My favorite part is when godzilla's foot stomps into frame and all the people screaming in the airport fall totally silent. The MUTOs were an awesome addition to kaiju ranks. The Monsterverse gets it, and shows respect to its roots. The early movies start off mostly serious, and touching (very lightly) on some serious topics, nuclear and environmental disasters. Then later films just getting straight up silly. Hope to see more!
Did you know that the M.U.T.O.S are siblings.
