- Welcome to my first race VLOG of 2022 with a GOPRO at cambridge Half Marathon, where i achieved my lifetime Personal Best Half marathon time at age 60, which is quite incredible considering i have now been running since my mid-50s and we are supposed to get slower as we get older?
Did you also run at the Cambridge Half Marathon?
Let me know how you got on in the comments below.
This was the first time i have ever taken part in the Cambridge Half Marathon and what an epic event it was, which i would highly recommend to everyone who wants to run a half marathon, for many reasons.
Cambridge is a beautiful city in England, United Kingdom and the race takes in some amazing landmarks, which i think are not only iconic for Britain, but also the world!
So not only do you get to race around a beautiful city, you can also spend a few days sight seeing and trying out some great restaurants.
The Cambridge Half Marathon is the first time i have been able to test my current fitness since i started training for Manchester Marathon back in early December 2021 and as you will see from the video footage and results, the training has been coming along very well.
I do hope you enjoy my video diary of the race day and share with all your friends and family and i you were racing at this event, i would love to hear from you in the comments below.

Thank you Rachel. Indeed I am over the moon 🌙 🥳
Awesome time💪

You’re an inspiration to this 64 year old
Congratulations on your PB
Cambridge Smiles
Oh WOW, thank you! So happy you enjoyed this and that I helped you in some way. Hope you continue to enjoy and share my videos.
I predict a sub 3 for Manchester! Keep going with the training!
Thank you Tom. Still a way to go and run the race 🥳🥳
Great video Donato, pleasure to feature and glad we both came away with new PBs! So helpful to run with someone to get through that 16k+ bit and finish strong. Looking forward to following the rest of your Manchester build up!
What a race, eh Josh! It was brilliant racing in that last 5k with you. Are you running Manchester marathon also?
@@PoetWithPace I'm not doing Manchester no, but a lot of Best Athletics are so keep an eye out for them! Turns out this was our second same race as I did Yorkshire marathon last October too
@@Josh.17 oh wow! Small world....i'm guessing you were a tad quicker than me at Yorkshire?
@@PoetWithPace 3:05 for me at Yorkshire, great event again there!
@@Josh.17 you are certainly fitter now for a faster race!
Well done!!! Fantastic!!!! Great run!!!!🏃🏽💪👊
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this!
Running the half in 2023 - so excited after watching this, can’t wait!!
Fantastic to hear Joe. Such a brilliant race and i would be running this every year, if it wasn't so far away for me! Have you ran this before?
@@PoetWithPace will be my first time mate, was interested about the route
so searched it & watched your video! Looks incredible! I’ll subscribe to your channel too, you seem like a top guy & an even better runner!
@@ThatRunnerAaron too kind Joe and really appreciate your kind words and support. Feel free to share this video with all you know, thank you!
You could feel the excitement at the start, fantastic area to run, I really enjoyed Cambridge when we visited. Great job with the race Donato 🏃♂👍
Thank you sir! Such a great place to visit and run!
Running with the young fellas D !
Gotta be done Joanne!
Amazing race! You rock bro! 👍
Thank you buddy 🥳🥳
Wow, that’s an awesome time. Congratulations!! Really enjoyed your race Vlog. Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you Andrew 🥳🥳
Phenomenal pace and time. Having a bloke blast past singing is almost as demoralising as a running buggy zipping past. Love it!
Oh Dan what a race! 🥳🥳
Ready and waiting.
Enjoy!
Well done looks like a great route !!!
Thank you Kerry. Indeed it is a great route and you should do this!
Looking forward to seeing the race ! 🥳
super!
I loved this Donato! Historical tour and blazing fast race all in one! You are crushing it regardless of age! As a 52 year old runner, I thank you for the inspiration! I love the bag and all the goodies you picked up after it was over! Thank you for taking us along for your epic PB! Congratulations!
Thank you so much for the kind words and support, which is greatly appreciated. I just run and chat with my camera...and sing now and again!
Great to meet you at Cambridge Half - love the channel and so impressed with the running - keep doing what you do 🙌
Fabulous to meet you too and thank you for the kind words and support.
Thanks for the vid, Donato, what a great run and done while filing. Very well done!
Thank you top man 🥳🥳
You are an inspiration. Well done and congratulations Donato!
Thank you for your support Paul 🥳
Brilliant that Donato, I can just about say a few hellos, let alone talk like you can when running, give yourself a massive pat on the back.. very inspiring.. Top Marks... 🏃♂️👍
Thank you Mark. Really appreciate your support 👍🏼🥳
Great vlog and what a run, great to see you diggin in at the end there. Well done!
Thank you Daz 🥳🥳
Wow! Rocket Man is baaaack!!!
Well done, well deserved after all you've been through...and💚GREEN is your new color!!!
PS. could hear your Alphaflys tell-tale slapping (albeit rapid slapping) 😂👏🍕🍕🍕
Thank you Suzanne! Like a pogo stick 🤣🤣
I did the Cambridge half as well, I also got a PB albeit not as fast as you 😀, but gotta say the best race i have done to date. Great course, crowds, organisation, support etc. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Thank you Martin and well done on your PB also 🥳🥳
Haha, great energy! You’ve inspired me to get editing with my version 🤣
Do it!
Well done, Donato. That's fantastic running and well done on the PB.
Thank you top man 🥳🥳
that was some race, congrats and not bad for a 60 year old😁
Thank you for your support 🙏🏼
Great run!
Thank you!
Donato, you're a legend! Had such a big smile listening to you sing as you were running. Massive congratulations on the time, very impressive.
Thank you Josh! Glad you enjoyed the singing and put a smile on your face 🥳🥳
Great video and fantastic time. Well done! Really brought back memories of the day. You must have breezed past me at some point. I was on course for 84 minutes but had a horrid last few miles and slipped to 86. Maybe next year... 🙂
Glad you enjoyed this and what great memories. Well done on your race also 🥳🥳
Congrats on the pb 👍🏻 I like the way they’ve changed the course to go through the college grounds
Thank you! It was fabulous 👍🏼🥳
Wow, fantastic result Donato, amazing HM PB, and it also looks like a great course. Yes your training is definitely paying off. Looking forward to seeing how you do at Manchester Marathon.
Thank you Debbie! It is a great course. On your to run list?
@@PoetWithPace Yes it is now after your great video 😊
@@debbiepriest8123 enjoy Debbie!
Fantastic race for you Donato, the training has certainly paid off , well done.
Thank you Claire!
Awesome run Donato
Epic Reece!
Good running Donato - Having done the Cambridge Half many times it is a fab!! There was a change of route in 2020 which I think improved the event and like you said that run thru Kings College is a such special buzz
Thank you Mark. Very special route indeed. Glad you enjoyed this!
Brilliant race, showcased really well Donato. Looks like a great race to attend. So the strategy was.... go out like a bat out of hell and then fight through the last few kms? 🤔
Thank you Alan! Definitely a race to do 👍🏼
I ran 1.49 and im over 55. I travelled down from Newcastle to run and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well done Ian on a great run! Glad you enjoyed it also. What's next for you?
@@PoetWithPace Well done on your time, thats a great time and a fantastic effort. I have a few Local runs ranging from 5-10k coming up. Looking forward to the Blaydon Race on 9th June. What about yourself
@@ianhearn9655 great to hear Ian. I do love local races , whatever the distances they are. Enjoy the training!
@@ianhearn9655 local races are great. part from Manchester and London Marathons, i have nothing else booked....yet!
Wow, just found your videos. I'm behind a bit with my training for the Brighton Marathon but you are inspiring, thank you!
Thank you for finding me Val and leaving such a nice comment. Have you ran Brighton before or done any other marathons?
@@PoetWithPace I actually ran my first one in Brighton last year. I'm a slow runner I have done it in 4h49mins. This year my training is unfortunately lacking consistency a bit due to life stuff but I will try it again. It would be nice at least to finish it. The bad thing is that I tried 6 different brands of gels, gummies, bars etc and my stomach doesn't like any of them. This slowed me down last year. Not sure what to fuel with, maybe bananas. I'm fine with fruit. Have you been running for a long time?
@@1985Heritage gret to hear you have ran Brighton before, so you are familiar with the route. Not to worry about your training as we all get life joining in. Have you tried tailwind? It's a powder, so you could mix it with water and have it in a hydration pack during the marathon, which i have seen many people do?
@@PoetWithPace Well, I can definitely try! Thank you :)
@@1985Heritage excellent!
Hello running guru great time and great video, keep them coming, one quick question did you follow a specific half marathon training plan?
Running this on Sunday, so exited!
Fantastic Joe. Enjoy and let me know how you get on!
@@PoetWithPace mate, what a course! Had the best time & ran a 1:27:30 on my half marathon debut! What a day!
@@ThatRunnerAaron that is incredible Joe! onwards and upwards! What next?
@@PoetWithPace don’t actually know yet mate, had this on the horizon as a bit of an ‘A’ race for a while & haven’t actually got anything in the calendar yet. Might have a look at Milton Keynes running festival & maybe something like the Southend half. Was going to run the Bognor 10k this year but it falls on my wedding anniversary so can’t imagine my misses will be too happy with me racing on that day 😂 Have you got any races coming up in the east midlands/south area this year? Would be cool to meet you one day, proper top bloke!
@@ThatRunnerAaron i have nothing in east midlands, but my have a 10k at Northbrook near Coventry and some others around West midlands including Pitchcroft 10k at Worcester.....not forgetting london Marathon in April 🙂
Nice video dude and great to meet you on the day. You funnily enough make an appearance over on my video! What a performance!
Thank you sir! Great to meet you also. Will have to check your video soon 🥳🥳
What a performance, all your training has paid off! Wonder where that ranks on the over 60 all-time list, amazing... The slow start possibly helped, you were getting faster and faster! A lot of tight turns, not good for joggling 🤣
Thank you Ric! Indeed a tough joggling course. No idea on ranking, but was 2nd on the day 🥳🥳
Well done Donato, great time great video, keep them coming, one quick question, did you follow a plan for the half marathon
Thank you James! in answer to your question, no, i am not following a HM plan. I am on a marathon training plan, so no real speed work done. As you may know, training for a marathon is very different to other shorter distances?
Outstanding performance Donato, and you're well set for the marathon. My training is a week behind you with MK Half on Sunday and Brighton marathon in April. Do you take gels (or something else) on the half and full marathons, and if so, how many?
Thank you Mark. I did pop one gel in the HM. How many i take during a full marathon can vary from 2 or 3 to 5 depending on conditions and how i feel at the time. No hard and fast rules for me. Good luck with your HM and Brighton!
Amazing run Donato, what shoes did you wear?
Thank you Reece! Alphafly
Nothing like being treated like a 60 year old at the finish line 😂
Indeed Mark....although in fairness to the first aiders i was wobbling a lot at the finish line LOL
@@PoetWithPace I get blue lips at the end, usually also fallen over at some point and have blood dripping from somewhere, so I know how you feel
@@markcameron3 oh my!
