Prior to Berry Gordy who founded Motown, Mitch Miller was the head of Columbia Records and later a record producer back in the 50's and 60's where he did lots of albums as well as the "Sing-Along" series along with such talent as Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis and so on. When Berry Gordy started Motown, he knocked him off the ground to become the Mitch Miller of the Motown label and put Berry Gordy's name on the map.

YEP Gordy was a theif from us WHITE songwriters also like me .,, ,I co- wrote Michael Jacksons "Got to be there " with Elliott Willensky I signed it away for PENNIES ,, I sang on the demo did same arrangement as Michael did,, Elliott had the cash to go back to NY and fight and win for author and title on record, I was off singing small gigs and got just the pennies Gordy gave me We also co wrote severaal songs for 5th Dimension Be a Child in your heart" all my writing and "Pocket full of seeds " I co wrote with Elliott and more ... for which I never got a dime ..Since Elliott and I lost touch I was in love and out of the USA doing many singing gigs and oblivious to the money earned by that song "Got to be There " We origianally wrote it about a blind girl I CHANGEd that and funked up the music and sang on the demo,.. Michaels arrangement sounded exactly the same Sorry Clive but TRUE,.. and personally after taking the song to Marc or Mark Wildey at Limelight Productions ot Limeight Records in L.A. I foolishly decide it was R&B so took it to Berry Gorfy personally, If Marc is still alive he can verify this story, 1970 I believe.....Marc loved and wanted it but I foolishly took it to Gordy who also wanted me and Elliott to write more songs , we did ..I went touring he rest is history,, I do have letters from Elliott from NY discussing our songs PROOF yes ? and the original demo ... Is there a statute of Limitations ? I earned the money and I should get at least a little of it? Elliott has since died RIP Buddy,,I think he would be happy if I was paid for my talent as he finally was ...
Deborah Kane I'm sorry Debra:-(. I wrote and recorded with the legendary Bob Babbitt, and was friends with him for years. He never spoke ill of anyone, he just didn't do that, but we were friends, so I'd ask him about those days, and he too, was taken advantage of. There are things I could say that he told me, but I won't. I know he's in heaven now, and this means nothing now. I am sorry that you were taken advantage of!
