I LOVE that you guys acknowledge Nobu's shortcomings because it usually takes people a second watch to bring attention to them. I mean I love the guy but he, like any character in this show, is realistic and has shortcomings. He has this saviour complex for girls which you can see in his relationship with the Nanas. If last episode we saw how precious he is in the way he adopted Nana O. in their adolescence, this episode and throughout the show we see how anything in excess can lead to enabling your friend's behaviour. And don't even get me started on his non-confrontational personality. If anything Nobu should've stood up more for Shin and not wave off this literal CHILD. People like to talk how Hachi is coddled and this and that but I actually believe Nana O. has been coddled more by everyone around her so she's not been put in a spot asking for her to face her problems.
The shots of the paparazzi interviewing people in Nana O.'s hometown serve also as a clue as to why she is so spiteful towards Shin in this episode. Nana was accused of prostitution when she was a teenager and she also internalised her mother leaving her arguably for a man. She sees herself in Shin but instead of serving as a guide for this child going through what she went through she instead pushes him away and admonishes him as a sign of self-hatred. That's just how Nana deals with these things and now the show's been hinting at the fact that you guys clued in the discussion - unfortunately, her friends have been enabling her behaviour. Yasu, Nobu, Ren and Hachi all represent characteristics that Nana O. feels she lacks and she finds comfort in them. Shin on the other hand tells her straight to her face but also like you mentioned in your discussion he does so because Nana O. instigates him whereas his actual stance of these things seems to be 'yeah all of these things are part of me and you so why act like you're above it'. I'm sorry Nobu you should've been as good of a friend to Shin as you always try to be for Nana which instead results in a slightly toxic dynamic between you two.
