I'm really loving seeing how much this song means to ARMY. Obviously everyone connects to things differently, so don't take it personally because everyone has different tastes and that's okay.
You know, the first time I heard this song was at a BTS concert and it really stuck in my head and became a favorite. For me, if there were more harmonies I think you would lose the emptiness of the emotions and lyrics, if that makes sense. Because then they aren't alone. Though from a musical standpoint I could see where there would be more opportunity to add more harmonies and layer those voices for fullness. (I say this, not having any musical background.)
I also want to say I appreciate the honest review. It's okay for people to not like how something was done. It wasn't anything nasty, just constructive criticism and that's okay.

This was an early one...the more they sang this song, the more emotion they put in it...every time they sang this song it was that more emotional. I think they portrayed this song perfectly. JK’s harmonies in this song really take it to another level.

I understand about the comment on dynamics and share the yearning on some BTS songs. This particularly was resonant in the earlier part of my journey into the group's discography. I realized later on that I connect easier and heighten my experience when I let go of my expectations and just marinate in the moment. Not sure if I am making sense but it is the best I could do. BTS is very purposive and deliberate with their music and wouldn't discount the possibility that the why's they do their performances is lost on me. So I now come to enjoy and be moved by the art. So... just like a pause in the music in order to make the next phrase more impactful or the drop feel heavier... having a solo voice right before all four come in with powerful harmonies is what they were going for... and accomplished. I find it amusing/sad that you started talking about how you wished their were more harmonies OVER the very part where they LITERALLY all harmonized. Nothing like not being overly impressed with a song when you talk over the climax.

I thought the same too but the song is constructed in a way to go with the lyrics and story. I used to have a similar opinion with him about other songs he heard from BTS but when you see the lyrics you get why they use certain tones or styles in certain moments of the song.

None of us will truly understand the reasons for every decision made while writing each song. Not every person will connect with every song. Not a lot of reactors will be this upfront with their opinion. But I do agree with the other comments if this song in particular was filled with harmonies it’ll lose some of its characteristics of loneliness. That’s why they used harmonies in certain parts of the song. But in other performances they added more dynamics and were still able to depict loneliness. But to me it felt like a different type of loneliness. If I were to describe the difference it felt more like a longing for something they couldn’t obtain. I hope I’m making sense.

I actually fully agree with you, even if the lyrics are beautiful and there's a purpose to willingly leave those empty spaces as in a way to truly show loneliness, I still feel like that wasn't exactly necessary. BTS is amazing at showing emotions when singing so I personally don't think adding more dynamic and layers would've taken the emotion away at all. But at the same time I feel like some of it was from nerves too, if I'm not wrong it was their first time singing this song on the tour and in latter concerts there are fancams of them actually doing amazing high notes and harmonization together, making the song seems fuller in a way. Plus the lack of instruments be it bc was a live performance or simply bc we aren't able to properly hear them, also makes the song seem empty. But again, this is my completely unprofessional opinion since I have no musical background and knowledge whatsoever.
