    I think you should emphasize that the ATF needs to be at operating temperature before checking and adding fluid. It should also be emphasized that the transmission takes longer to warm up than the engine so you can't simply go by the engine's temperature gauge.

    I have a 2007 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder.
    I hear a rattle sound when I popped the hood it looked like the engine was going back and forth rattling I don't know if that could be from transmission a motor mount or possibly my exhaust rattling under there?
    I had my whole exhaust replaced in 2020 so hopefully it's not that?

    When I check my transmission fluid the fluid is splashed all over the dipstick because the car is running. it's very hard to see where to level is, especially because the transmission oil is so clean.
    How do you know the level you're seeing is the proper one and not just because some oil got splashed up on the dipstick when you put it in/pulled it out?

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  2 года назад +2

      Sometimes you may need to wipe the dipstick off a few times to get the correct reading.

      If there is not transmission dipstick it might be a sealed transmission. If it is, the dealer would need to hook it up to a machine, pump all of the old transmission fluid out and fill the transmission back up again with new fluid.

    What happens if you add too much oil? It's confusing. Some say check it when it's hot; some say check it when it's cold. The level on my car was low when it was cold, and almost nothing when it was hot. I added oil. Not sure if I added the right amount. I will check it again in the morning.

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  3 года назад +2

      If you are checking the engine oil you can check it if the vehicle is warm or cold, just make sure that the engine has been off for a few minutes so that you get an accurate reading.

      @tonyv1559 2 года назад

      In my 09 Camry 2.4 owner's manual the instructions on how to check the oil says to run the car till warm, then turn the car off on level ground and wait 5 minutes for oil to settle. Then check.

    There is some misinformation here. After 2009 Toyota Camry 4 cylinders changed the transmission and the engine as well. Engine; from 2.4 to 2.5 ad the transmission from a 5 speeds with dip stick to a 6 speeds without dip stick.

      If your facing the front of your car with the hood open. Locate the oil filler cap (on top of valve cover) on the left side. pcv valve is on the back left corner of the valve cover. There will be a hose about 6 - 8'' long that connects the pcv valve to the intake manifold. If you can find that hose, the pcv valve is on the higher-end of the hose.
