    So clear thank you. And for the medical students...just so you know...the average time to get diagnosed for this is 5-10 years. It probably isn't nearly as rare as they say it is since the GI clinics are so full it takes months to get in. I personally seen top doctors in San Antonio, Austin, Rochester and others. Not one of them bothered to look at all my symptoms together to figure this out. It literally took me helping a friend with her unrelated tumor to stumble upon this info and it fits every symptom all the way to the right sided heart failure.
    Word to the wise. If you don't learn to look at the patient as a whole, if you are so micro specialized that you can't recognize "other" symptoms to diagnose the zebra...you will miss it just like all the others in the last 10 years. Don't be the zombie that will only look for the horse. I don't know why schools teach students to ignore the unusual...but from my research, everyone with IBS (in other words "the doctor has no clue"), should have the specific blood work and a PET scan just to cover all the bases.
    What is the point in waiting until the patient feels like they are nearly dead and they figure it out 10 years later before you finally test them????? No wonder there is a cancer epidemic...please do better, and search until you find the cause, (meaning the solution should help...if not, that was not the right diagnosis...keep looking, broaden your scope, until you can prove it).

    If in carcinoid syndrom more somatostatin receptor are expressed then how more hormone are produced?
    More receptor > more somatostatin bind > negative action > reduced hormone production
    Please help me to understood this

    Many thanks for this. I'd like to ass that when you get metastatic lesions from the liver, you get right sided valvular lesions including tricupsid regurigtation or stenosis, and pulmonary stenosis and regurgitation. Bronchial carcinoids tend to metastasise to the left side of the heart. There is also endocardial fibrosis. Serotonin is directly linked to cardiac disease and chemo increases the risk of heart disease.

    What is the normal range of 5HIAA?

    • @malk01
      @malk01 Год назад +2

      the normal range for 5-HIAA in a 24-hour urine collection is less than 10 milligrams per 24 hours.
      Also it depends on the laboratory how to perform it.

      Flushing is a symptom. My friend has this syndrome. Foods, alcohol cause symptoms to flare up Flushing. But you should always get seen by doctor to be tested properly if you suspect any issues.
