There are two dimension of tongues. Speaking in "unknown" tongues (1 Corinthians 14:2) is a spiritual technology for connecting to God while we live in this physical body. Apostle Paul said he speaks this tongues more than you all (1 Cor 14:18). This private language of unknown tongues is not a spoken language of the world and it looks like gibberish but it is to be used by the individual for his personal edification and spiritual growth. People who have understood and experienced this "unknown tongues" in their private life knows the power of this dimension. However, the gift of tongues (1 Cor 12:1; 8-11) is an utterance in a spoken language of the world spoken by a person who does not know that language. This is used as a sign tool for the spreading of the gospel or as a sign to the unbelievers. People often confuse with these two distinct dimensions of tongues.

What about talking Tongues in a service .
Is mightily full of unbiblical falsehoods
You have to understand tongues used in Scripture eg Acts 2:8 was UNDERSTANDABLE by others and used to spread Scripture.
Tongues today are UNKNOWN and ARE NOT.
Paul taught that tongues were used to spread Scripture and that they would cease.
1 Cor 14: 2For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
Note the small s in spirit - that is NOT the Holy Spirit.

The 'gift' IS NOT given to a whole assembly of people talking 'gibberish'

If a believer is praying to God in an UNKNOWN (gibberish) tongue then he will know and be able to interpret what he is saying/praying to God.
There will be others that can INTERPRET his 'gibberish'.

Well if it's gibberish out loud that others can hear and others can interpret then it's not private prayer
READ THE SCRIPTURE...Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Read Acts 2, 2 Thessalonians 2 (especially 9-12). May this person repent of spreading such heresy and may all the flock recognize its true master's voice and be lead into God's complete truth before its too late, in Jesus name, amen
