    I can see this being a rather effective workout with a pair of arming swords. Twenty minutes each day and you'd be shedding pounds and toning up for sure.

      I've been doing dual wielding falchions for half hour or so every day for at least a month now. At first, was sore, felt maybe I was messing up my left wrist. But was probably just sore from never bending it so much. Now I can say my shoulders do feel stronger, more flexible, have better coordination. Even though I really only do longsword for fighting, and have no use for actual dual wielding other than exercise, it was worth it. Oh, and maybe if im ever at a party and want to show off lol

      @@BachataKnight Well! My point exactly. I might have to get some mild steel flat bar and make a couple swords now.

    • @BachataKnight
      @BachataKnight 3 года назад +2

      @@angelus_solus oh BTW, 5 times a week on average, haha not literally every day. Also, I found some other dual wielding styles to copycat from the guys who do cossack sabers. The Behind the Back part of their saber swinging is what made my left wrist sore at first. It is now just as coordinated as my dominant hand which is cool

    Many of these drills also exist in chinese double saber systems! Except that false edge cuts aren’t done with most dao.

      I've seen this in korean twin swords (largely based on early chinese equivalent). Some is also present in Krabi Krabong which I'm kinda trying to learn atm.
      4:10 seems both like godinho and one of patterns in the KK dvd for example

    Interesting and cool to see some dual wielding covered from a HEMA perspective. I've practiced for a couple of years with katana and wakizashi. In the Book of five Rings, Miyamoto Musashi instructs practice with two swords in a similar way to what you have shown here. Good stuff man!

    This was the first suggested video of dual wield exercises, simply as an exercise of accuracy/hand-eye coordination, but also the goal of getting into better shape, but this video was very informative in more than just that, will definitely be returning during my training for other videos you have!

  • @Le_Rappel_des_oiseaux

    Are these actual drills from historical HEMA sources or repurposed FMA drills?

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  3 года назад +4

      Neither of the two. There’s a bit of historical sources (which are Renaissance anyway, while I’m using two 12/13th century swords) and a bit of my own ideas. I gave a look to Kali only now, to see if there’s some things which I would like to steal.

    • @penttikoivuniemi2146
      @penttikoivuniemi2146 3 года назад +1

      Probably mostly stuff they came up with themselves based on techniques, since there are very few drills in HEMA sources. Federico's last exercise at around 4:06 looks a bit like one of Godinho's patterns. Martin's last thing is something I've seen FMA guys do, but it's also an obvious pattern I came up with way before I started training martial arts.

  • @jlcontarino
    @jlcontarino 3 года назад +2

    Was this actually done historically and was it effective? Have you tried sparring with a 2 weapon set versus an opponent with a single weapon such as a longsword, if so what were the results?

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  3 года назад +4

      It depends from too many factors. First and foremost the skill of both fencers.
      Anyway: Yes, there are a lot of renaissance manuals teaching dual wielding swords!
      And: Generally 2 weapons vs 1 has the advantage at average level.
