  • How good is the big Honda Africa Twin Adventure?
    Finally, I had the chance to ride this motorcycle for a long period of time and feel what exactly it is. Great design, powerful engine, and brakes. The only problem that I found was the weight. It is 247 kg and in my opinion, this is way too much at least for me.
    Special thanks to Rosetta Moto Tours for arranged this motorcycle for me. More details about the company and the service they provide you can read here: www.rosettamot...

    Pavlin, your reviews, are really great, specially because they're for the "average Joe" who wants to buy / change a motorcycle but the majority of the time never thinks that the marketing videos of the major big companies are made by professional riders with many years of dirt or motocross riding experience, and they can take these big machines to their limits. Well done, keep it up!!

    Ive now had this bike for a year. Its a heavy bike when your pushing it about, but once on the move its very easy to ride. You don't feel its weight. Its got plenty of power form the twin engine, breaking is good too. Its a good all round bike.

    I have the same model but with DCT, the 30th Anniversary version. I bought it second hand, but almost new, it still hasn't 7,200 kms. The thing i love the most is the confort of ride. The DCT does add more confort. The bar riser that you talk, looks to me that they are OEM, not a extra. The weight is there especially with full tank of gas. The display is not always visible, there are ocasions that it reflects a bit with the sun. Apart from that, i love it.

    Excellent review Pavlin. I’m 180cm and 75KG and it’s too big I fear. I got rid of my 2014 R 1200 GS TE because of the weight . Smaller bikes for me but on the road that’s an excellent bike.

    Good review. Owning a 2018 standard A.T., I still do not see the point of having the Adventure Sports version: taller, heavier and more expensive. The A.T. does not take much gas, always below 5l/100km in my own travel conditions (pillion + luggage), so that even the standard 18l tank is largely enough to visit a country such as Bulgaria, where tank stations are not so rare and the road conditions do not favor riding at crazy speeds. IMHO the best qualities of the A.T. are its capable and good mannered engine and its excellent compromise between stability and handling. Its worse disadvantage is the weight/center of gravity combination that you experience when you have to stop and maneuver on uneven terrains. Accidental drops are common. I see Rossetta bikes knows that and they wisely threw away the shitty tank guard bars (easily moves and damages the tank and fairing) and they replaced them with the outback motortek low+medium bar system, that more seriously protects the bike.

    Good timing of this video. I just bought a 2016 Standard AT. I’ve put a couple thousand miles on it in the past couple of weeks. I agree with your review, great bike. It is heavy and off road a worry because of weight. My previous bike was a RE Himalayan. What a jump up in quality and power. Interstate riding here in the US no problem. The Himalayan is a great little bike, but the AT for my overall riding is much better. I found this AT at a very good price used. The new T7 is only just becoming available here in the US. It may be my next bike. Looking forward to riding one.

    My Honda was in maintenance 2 weeks ago and they gave me the 1100 Adventure Sports with DCT as a substitute. what a fun the ride this machine. Power delivery and sound is just pure pleasure. but hey, the price tag is unbelievable for this model. I loved it very much, but I would choose the normal AT, most likely with manual gearbox just because of the price. no need for fancy mappings, etc.

    Looks like a beautiful & reasonable country. Thanks for the review.
    For a bike that size, for serious touring, I would have a 24L tank up front, and a pair of secondary tanks on the rear.
    Perhaps in Europe 24L is enough, but in Australia, 500km+ range is desirable. It is a big bike and while we don't want more weight, a couple of aftermarket secondary tanks would be good IMHO.

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  2 года назад

      I have been to Australia. The only place (Central Australia) where you will need more than 24 liters is a place not many riders go. Definitely not with Africa Twin.

    • @marcready6369
      @marcready6369 2 года назад

      @@motorcycleadventures anywhere off the East Coast or outside Perth you need a range of more than 300+km as at both high speeds (long distances), or low speed (more technical), more fuel is consumed. The Africa Twin is perfect for longhaul road & pretty good for gravel I think, but the range & weight are the concerns. The areas where 300-500km range is needed is around 85+% of Australia. It is common to see XR600 with an aftermarket 24L+ tank, which is barely adequate, but the Africa Twin needs even more fuel.

Standard is lower than Adventure Sports. But first before you buy it you must test it. Maybe it will be good bike for you.

      @@firemanpeter2 I´ll have to go try sitting on them, when I switch my bike, but for now even the versys x300 fells pretty good. I think lowering the AT with other means combined with the low seat position might defeat the purpose since it would eat the ground clearance. Do you know if there is lower seat that could be used in conjunction with the lower seat position?

      @@motorcycleadventures Thank you Sir. I owned a BMW GSA, but now that I am in my mid 60s, it was getting just too heavy for me. I really like the price point and simplicity of the T700. I rarely used all those electronic features on the GSA. There is a trend in motorcycle engineering to put all these electronic features on bikes, which is driving the cost up. Most of the people I ride with would rather have a simple, lighter bike. This is the reason the T700 sell so fast. The Africa Twins are really getting up there in price. I will go try and take a test ride at the dealership. I enjoyed your videos on Turkey.

    Pavlin why dont u buy a well maintained pre used Africa Twin? I dont think you will be doing Mongolia again so should be a good choice despite the weight.

    I have Honda like this and would like to know how fits your saddle bag ( horse shoe) on it? Do you have any photo? Is there any problem? What about hot exhaust , any problem with that?

    Great review. Though mine is 245Kgs (AT, not ATAS) I agree, great power, great brakes, handles wonderfully....and is just too heavy. The same bike at 200Kgs would be incredible....but then I guess it wouldn't be the same bike...but if the engineers could figure that out - then I would be amazed!

    I think the target market is for middle aged couples who will go for long weekends on tarmac, not off road adventure riders. Self cancelling indicators? My RD125DX had them in 1977, cant understand why they are not OE on all bikes? Great review Pavlin.

    I've been riding my AT for 3 years and still continually hit the horn instead of the blinkers. Other than the weight I have no real complaints but a bike this engine size is not going to be any lighter even KTM's.

    In the road a BMW 1200/1250 Gs is much better than Crf1000/1100. Better power delivery and Suspension. I have rid both.
    A old Suzuki DL 1000 makes more fun in the road than a Crf1100 because of the weight and the less power in low speeds. The good thing on the crf1000 is its durability.
    For offroad its ok but a little bit to heavy, Take a KTM 790 Adventure, much lighter and better suspension.

    The new one is a little lighter . You should try the new Africa Twin standard version . It's 505 lbs I think .
    Today was the first time I was able to ride my DR650 offroad . Had the bike for over a year and have enjoyed it a lot . I plan on exploring a little further tomorrow or the next day .
    America is going crazy with all the different fighting and virus lies . We may have a not so civil war soon . God I hope not . I need to get more experienced riding offroad as it will come in handy in the future . Looks like no one is trying to take down your statues . When they took down the Albert Pike statue I was actually okay with that . That monster was the top freemason in his time and a lucifarian devil worshipper as are all top freemasons . He was really the head of the illuminati and those wicked men are behind almost every war in the last 200 years .
    Okay I guess that's enough non motorcycle ranting for today . Oh and I didn't mean any offense in my last comment . It just looked like someone was on LSD and went to town with some paint and brushes .

    I don't know, it doesn't make much sense a motorcycle built as an off-road that only a few people would actually use it for off-road.
